Actress loses fight to cryogenically preserve teenage son

Metro16-06-2025
An actress who was racing to raise $300,000 (£143,000) in a week to cryogenically preserve her son has been forced to hold his funeral.
Last month Australian actress Clare McCann begged for help following the death of her son Atreyu, who died aged 13.
Best known for appearing in the Channel [V] shows Blog Party and Clublife, Clare shared that her son had died by suicide after 'months of relentless bullying'.
Soon after she asked for support to 'help me preserve his life' and shared a link to a fundraiser, explaining she wanted to 'allow him to live again' with cryonics – the practice of freezing an individual who has died with the aim of reviving them sometime in the future.
But with a seven-day window in which to achieve her aim, Clare said she was fighting against the clock to drum up enough support.
However, a few weeks on, she's now been forced to hold her son's funeral after not raising the money in time.
On Monday, Atreyu's funeral was held in Sydney, with loved ones given their chance to say their final goodbyes.
During the service, held at Mary Immaculate Church in Waverley, videos were shown of him riding a horse, skateboarding and cuddling his favourite animals.
Standing in front of her son's coffin, which was covered in sunflowers, Clare spoke to the congregation about her 'best mate', who she named after the hero in The NeverEnding Story.
News.com.au reported her speaking about her son being 'looking so forward' to starting high school until bullies 'dimmed his light'.
'Atreyu you saved me from the nothingness, you brought my life indescribable joy when I had none,' she said.
'As you grew I revelled in your beauty. I always felt so blessed to have such a beautiful and wonderful boy. You were and will always be my best mate.
'You were the most intelligent, funniest person I have ever known.'
She then went on to vow to make him proud and dedicate her life to campaigning against bullying.
'I'm sorry if I failed you. I'm sorry if I loved you too much and made you too gentle,' she said through tears. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKBErftSkgM/?hl=en
'Now the world knows his name, his story and his message,' she added. More Trending
When first announcing the death of her son, Clare posted on social media: 'It's with shattered hearts that we share the passing of my beautiful son, Atreyu McCann. He was the brightest light in my world — kind, creative, and endlessly loved.
'Right now, we are grieving a loss that words can't hold. Please give us time and space as we process this unimaginable pain.
'Thank you to everyone who has supported and loved Atreyu. We'll share more when we're ready. For now, please hold him in your hearts.'

Harry denies he left Prince Andrew with a 'bloody nose' in family gathering spat

Prince Harry has denied exchanging punches with Prince Andrew in a spat between the two royals. A new book claimed the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of York became embroiled in an argument during a family gathering in 2013. The confrontation was said to have been triggered by something said by Andrew 'behind Harry's back'. Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by Andrew Lownie claims Harry left his uncle with 'a bloody nose' in the dispute. The new book also separately alleges the Duke of York predicted that Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle would 'not last more than a month'. However a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex denied the pair had ever had a physical altercation or that Andrew had made such comments about the Duchess of Sussex. Andrew stepped back as a full time royal after his car crash interview on Newsnight in 2019 in which he was quizzed about his relationship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. His reputation was further battered by claims from Virginia Giuffre that she had been forced to have sex with the duke as a teenager – claims Andrew denies. Lownie's book claims there have been frictions between Andrew and Harry for years, with the latter even allegedly telling his brother, the Prince of Wales, he 'hated' the Duke of York. Andrew, who attacked Harry for failing to carry out 'due diligence' on his wife before their wedding in 2018,is also said to have made rude remarks about the Princess of Wales. The frosty relations between royals come as Andrew faces an uncertain future at the Royal Lodge at Windsor Great Park since his estimated £1million allowance was stopped by the King. In his biography of Andrew, Lownie suggests William has 'long worked behind the scenes' to remove the Duke of York from the estate, where he believes he has abused 'his privilege', the Telegraph reported. The book claims to shine a light on Andrew's behaviour towards longstanding royal servants. He is said to have branded David Anderson, the former manager of Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland, a 'f***ing imbecile' for not referring to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, by her full title. More Trending Anderson was informing Andrew that a severe storm had wrecked damaged on the royal residence, including to a tree planted by the Queen Mother. After Anderson said he had worked for the royal household since 1984, Andrew allegedly said patronisingly: 'And you still don't know the proper way to refer to my grandmother? You f***ing imbecile. Get out.' Colin Burgess, a former esquerry to Queen Elizabeth II, said that Andrew, in contrast to other senior royals, spoke to staff 'as an officer talks to his subordinates'. Jessie J hospitalised after ‘finding it hard to breathe' following cancer surger

Jessie J has been rushed back to hospital weeks after her breast cancer surgery, suffering from an infection and fluid on her lungs. Last month, the Bang Bang hitmaker shared that her cancer had not spread after a shock early diagnosis halted her return to the spotlight. However, she's now revealed she's 'finding it hard to breathe' as she's returned to the same ward she was in after her surgery. 'How I spent the last 24 hours,' Jessie — real name Jessica Ellen Cornish — wrote as she posted a picture of her arm with a canula in on her Instagram story. '6 weeks post surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned,' she continued. The 37-year-old singer was last seen giving an emotional goodbye to her Los Angeles home, where she lived with partner, professional basketball player Chanan Colman, for over a decade. Jessie continued: 'I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD. 'They ran a lot tests, which ended up showing I have an infection (still trying to figure out what) and a little fluid on my lungs. 'Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient.' In her next post, Jessie added that she knows her decision to leave hospital might not go down well with others who have gone through similar things. 'That's ok,' she said. 'But I know for me the true hard journey of this whole thing, physically, was the day I went into surgery.' Jessie admitted changing her plans for her career relaunch and 'being unable to be the mother I usually am' had been 'frustrating'. She added that getting the 'all clear' on her cancer was 'incredible' but didn't speed up her recovery or make it 'any easier'. More Trending In a final post, the Domino hitmaker added that this was was a reminder 'to slow tf down', which has been 'a hard reality to accept'. In June, Jessie underwent a mastectomy, which the Price Tag icon previously joked had left her with 'wonky boobs. 'I am finding the strength in knowing that all can be adjusted to align with a slower pace,' she continued, adding this was her body telling her to 'sit down'. Got a story? 'My husband got cringeworthy tattoo of me so I made sure to get payback on him'

Tegan De Vil was shocked when her husband Jarrie surprised her by getting an embarrassing photo of her face tattooed onto his thigh. But she now got her revenge on her spouse For many, tattoos are a big decision that often takes time to plan out as they're filled with profound meaning. Yet for some, it's merely an fun and exciting way to decorate their bodies with. ‌ An Australian couple, however, have taken a unique approach to expressing their affection through ink – and it's not what you'd typically expect. Tegan De Vil, an influencer with a hefty following of over 300,000 on Instagram and TikTok, is known for her comedic skits and occasionally features her husband, Jarrie, in her content. This has included Tegan giving Jarrie a taste of pregnancy when she was pregnant with their firstborn child. ‌ The pair previously made waves when Jarrie surprised Tegan by getting a tattoo of her pulling a humorous face etched onto his body. But now, Tegan has exacted the ultimate revenge on her spouse. ‌ "Remember that time my husband got that tattoo of me," she penned on her Instagram video. The clip then revealed the ink in question, situated on Jarrie's inner thigh. The tattoo captured Tegan's face in an exaggerated grimace, eyes cast upwards, mirroring a photo of her which she also displayed in the footage. ‌ The scene then switched to Tegan, adopting a stern expression as she faced the camera, before panning to reveal a tattoo parlour in the background, hinting at her retaliatory plans. "Payback time Jarrie," she simply penned on the clip before flashing a grin and ending the video. Her 79,900 Instagram followers were sent into a frenzy, with many begging for Tegan to reveal the completed tattoo. Days later, she obliged with a second video where she showed off her eagerly awaited new tattoo. ‌ "Surely you're not that crazy to get his named tattooed," read the text overlay at the beginning, showing her with hair wrapped in a towel, munching on a stuffed pita. The footage then swiftly transitioned to the big reveal – and it was far more audacious than merely inking his name. She opted for a full-blown portrait of Jarrie's face pulling a comical grimace, etched onto her calf. She followed up by sharing the brief clip that inspired the tattoo's design. "Hahaha I love it," one viewer exclaimed in the comments. "This is the kind of pettiness I want in a partner. Not me looking through old photos of my wife." remarked a second. "Omg, this is awesome!" a third chimed in. "May this type of love find me!" a fourth admirer commented, clearly amused by the gesture.
