ESI Hospital ready for inauguration
The Central government approved funding for the hospital project on August 19, 2020. Built on 5.83 acres, the construction was delayed and completed on December 30, 2024, with the hospital handed over to the Andhra Pradesh government in June 2025. Originally a 50-bed facility established in 1987 during the TDP regime, the hospital has been expanded to 100 beds, though formal approval for this upgrade is still pending.
A report detailing necessary medical equipment, human resources, and operational funds has been submitted to the state government. Former MP Maganti Murali Mohan initiated the project in 2018, and the foundation was laid then. Minister Vasamsetty Subhash visited twice for progress reviews, but essential medical equipment is still awaited.
The upgraded hospital includes 32 outpatient (OP) rooms, a casualty unit, minor operating theatre, pharmacy, and emergency ward on the ground floor, while the second floor is dedicated to mother and child healthcare, featuring an ICU, PICU, and NICU.The third floor has six wards, a library, and administrative offices.
Equipped with four lifts, centralized air conditioning, 50 CCTV cameras, and Braille signage, every bed has oxygen and ventilator facilities. Currently, the old 50-bed hospital operates with 30 staff members, but the new facility will require at least 300 personnel, including 100 doctors. The hospital plans to offer 26 types of medical services, including general medicine and surgery, although details on super-specialty services remain unclear. Officials are optimistic that once fully equipped, it will be a vital secondary care facility for the region's workforce.

Dope test for Chitta mandatory in HP police hiring
Agency: Shimla, July 29 (PTI) A doping test for 'Chitta' will now be mandatory during police recruitment in Himachal Pradesh and newly recruited government employees will be required to submit an undertaking stating they do not consume the synthetic drug, officials said on Tuesday. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, officials said. During the meeting, police, social justice and empowerment and health departments gave detailed presentations on the measures being taken to combat drug abuse in the state. The chief minister said strict action would be taken against any government employee found involved in drug-related activities. 'The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards the drug menace and is fully committed to protecting the youth from falling victim to drug abuse," Sukhu said. He underlined the need for coordinated efforts to dismantle drug networks. According to a statement issued here, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) cases in Himachal Pradesh constitute nine per cent of total cases, significantly lower than Punjab's 20 per cent. The health department has been asked to strengthen efforts related to capacity building, awareness generation, treatment, counselling, follow-up and rehabilitation of persons affected by substance abuse. Integrated Rehabilitation Centres (IRCs) have been set up in Kullu, Hamirpur, Nurpur and Una and a new project with an outlay of Rs 14.95 crore will be implemented to establish similar centres at all district headquarters under the state action plan of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. The chief minister also directed Mahila Mandals, Yuvak Mandals, Panchayati Raj Institutions, civil society organisations and the education department to participate actively in spreading awareness about the ill-effects of drug abuse. He stressed the need for a coordinated approach among departments to combat substance abuse and also called for regular interstate border monitoring to prevent drug trafficking. US Mother Of Five Earns Rs 87,000 Monthly Selling Breast Milk
Emily Enger, a 33-year-old from Minnesota, is earning around (Rs 86,959) $1,000 monthly by supplying excess breast milk to supplement her regular income. She is a mother of five, and after each feeding, she pumps extra milk, bags it, and stores it in her freezer, not for her own children, but for sale to strangers. Ms Enger is part of a growing number of American mothers who are selling breast milk, driven by a cultural shift towards breastfeeding. The change in recent years has been marked by the rise of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, spearheaded by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has batted for mothers to breastfeed infants instead of relying on baby formulas. Social media has also played a role, with influencers also inspiring mothers to embrace breastfeeding publicly. The once-popular "fed is best" mantra has largely been replaced by "breast is best," reflecting growing awareness of breast milk's benefits. While breastfeeding has caught on, not all mothers can produce enough milk. Challenges such as short maternity leaves, medication and health complications mean the mothers have to seek alternatives. This is where the likes of Ms Enger come into the picture. One such customer is Briana Westland, 36, from Fort Lauderdale, a new mother, who is spending close to $1,200 monthly on breast milk for her four-month-old daughter, prioritising its nutritional quality over formula. "I was formula fed, most of my friends were,' Ms Westland told The Times. 'I think our parents were told it was just as good, but now we're questioning that. Formula has so many ingredients in it that we are only now starting to really scrutinise.' 'Oversupplier' Since Ms Enger is an oversupplier, she sometimes pumps 80-100 extra ounces daily. Up until now, she has sold thousands of ounces of breastmilk to her clients. "At first I thought 'I have this milk sitting there in the freezer, I might as well just give it away'," Ms Enger said. "But then I thought, well you go to the store and you buy a gallon of milk or you go to the store and you buy formula. You can't go into a hair salon, for example, and expect a free haircut. "Time and, literally, energy has gone into producing milk. That should be valued." With the stigma around breastmilk vanished, capitalism has also stepped in. In March, Frida, a popular baby brand in the US, announced that it was launching a breast milk-flavoured ice cream to celebrate the release of its 2-in-1 manual breast pump.
