Lekhpal gets four-year RI for accepting bribe
Special Judge (PC Act-2) Satyendra Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Avadhesh Kumar Singh (55).
According to the prosecution, led by special counsel Nitin Mathur, Singh was caught on July 4, 2018, by the Anti-Corruption team accepting a bribe. The complainant, Khalid Laik Siddiqui, handed over 45 currency notes of Rs 2,000 each, all treated with phenolphthalein powder to Singh.
When the complainant signalled the trap team, Singh was nabbed near the NHAI Survey Office in Gomtinagar.
A recovery memo confirmed that the seized notes matched the serial numbers recorded in the pre-trap memo.
At the Gomtinagar police station, Singh's hands turned pink when washed in a sodium carbonate solution, confirming the bribe transaction, said Mathur.
The court noted that all key prosecution witnesses, including public witnesses, corroborated the sequence of events. Singh failed to explain why the marked notes were in his possession.

Taking into account that this was Singh's first offence and his wife's ill health, the court awarded him the minimum punishment under Section 7 of the PC Act and Section 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2), each carrying four years' imprisonment and a default penalty of one month if the fine is not paid.

A police constable-turned-builder accused of duping his own department's Bharatha scheme and multiple banks to the tune of Rs. 2.61 crore was arrested by the Wanaparthy police on Tuesday. The 37-year-old accused Bandaru Rakesh, who joined back to duty after a long leave of nearly nine years, fabricated documents to secure multiple loans from three houses, Wanaparthy Superintendent of Police Ravula Giridhar said at a press conference. He got selected as Armed Reserve constable in 2007 and got converted his service into Civil a couple of years later. Using the connection while serving as a civil constable, he entered real estate business and created his own venture of houses. He first sold one of the houses in his venture to his aide Sunkari Shekhar. He created fake documents stating that he had purchased the house from Shekhar and availed home loan from police department's Bhadratha scheme. 'Using the same details, he fabricated documents and secured home loans from Indian Overseas Bank, HDFC and LIC,' the SP said. With this modus operandi, he collected Rs. 89 lakh in the form of multiple bank loans. In the same fashion, he availed multiple home loans from different banks. The accused spent most of the money he had earned for his lavish lifestyle and ended up behind the bars, Mr. Giridhar said.

Video: MNS workers storm Nagpur bank, assault staff for action against labourer
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers created a ruckus at a Yes Bank branch in Nagpur on Monday, assaulted a bank staff member and vandalised the premises. The incident took place at the Mount Road branch after a borrower, who alleged injustice by the bank, sought the support of Raj Thackeray's party men, police said.A video of the MNS workers slapping a staff member, raising slogans, defacing the bank premises and creating a ruckus has gone viral on social media. advertisementAs per the information, the borrower, identified as Indrajit Baliram Mule, had reportedly taken a loan from Yes Bank to purchase an earth-moving machine. According to Mule, he was struggling with repayment and had approached the bank multiple times seeking a resolution. However, the bank, he claimed, did not offer any assistance or settlement option. Subsequently, when he took the heavy-duty machine to take a driving test and obtain a driving licence at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the bank allegedly seized the vehicle and later sold it without informing by the bank's action, Mule approached the MNS for help. Following this, a group of MNS workers gathered outside the Yes Bank branch and launched a protest. The demonstration quickly turned aggressive, with slogans being painted on the walls branding the bank as "corrupt" and "anti-Maharashtra".During the chaos, one of the MNS workers slapped a bank official and threatened other staff members. Black ink was also splashed on the bank's nameplate. Police rushed to the scene and detained some of the MNS workers involved in the police confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway. They added that legal action would be taken based on the statements of the bank staff and available CCTV footage. A video of a mob attacking a group of Hindu holy men is making the rounds on social media. Those sharing the clip claimed that in Ghaziabad, devotees found a camera planted by temple caretaker (mahant) Mukesh Goswami in a women's changing room there. Locals and the police subsequently beat up sadhus from the temple. Sharing the clip on X, one person wrote, 'The biggest news of the day. In Muradnagar, Ganga Nahar of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, a camera was found in the changing room outside a temple, and its live feed was on Mahant Mukesh Goswami's mobile. Videos of women changing clothes were found on Mahant's mobile.
