Uni student nabbed for having self-produced child sexual abuse material among other pornographic content
KUALA LUMPUR: A 20-year-old university student has been detained for possessing more than 5,000 files of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and adult pornographic content.
It is learnt that the police believe he also produced some of the illicit materials himself, involving two local child victims.
The suspect was detained on April 29 in Pasir Gudang, Johor, during a joint operation led by the Malaysian Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) unit under Bukit Aman CID's Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11), together with the Johor police and in collaboration with Google.
Bukit Aman D11 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Siti Kamsiah Hassan said that an inspection of the suspect's devices uncovered thousands of explicit files, some believed to have been downloaded from the Internet, while others were allegedly created by the suspect himself.
'Further investigation revealed that the suspect had sexually exploited two young female cousins, aged four and nine,' she said in a statement on Thursday.
SAC Kamsiah said the suspect was believed to have recorded the acts using his mobile phone at three different locations – in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan," she said.
Police have since seized a mobile phone and laptop for further investigation under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code for sale of obscene material, she said.
"Three separate investigation papers have been opened to facilitate investigations in the respective states.
"The suspect has already been charged in Johor for the possession of CSAM and adult pornography on May 22, where he pleaded guilty and was fined RM5,000.
'For the offence of recording explicit acts involving the children at his family home in Sungai Buloh between 2023 and 2025, the suspect was charged on Thursday in Klang,' she added.
Another incident involving the recording of one of the victims while bathing in a plantation toilet in Maran, Pahang, is still under review by the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
SAC Siti Kamsiah also said that another case, involving recordings made at the suspect's grandmother's home in Kelantan in 2023 and 2024, is currently under review by the Attorney General's Chambers.

Caught in record time after robbing gold shop with chilli powder in Langkawi
ALOR SETAR: A robber was arrested before he could even turn the corner on the street of a gold shop he had just fled from at Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, Kuah in Langkawi today. Langkawi police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said in the roberry at about 11.48 am, the 45-year-old local man entered the shop wearing a face mask. 'During the robbery, the 69-year-old owner and his 60-year-old wife were inside the shop. The suspect threw chilli powder at the victim's wife and proceeded to smash the jewellery display glass with a machete. 'The suspect then fled but was chased down by the goldsmith and several bystanders,' he said in a statement today. He said the suspect was arrested about a 300-metre dash from the gold shop by policemen on patrol in the vicinity. 'The gold (jewellery) looted was estimated at RM50,000.
