Nawaz Sharif's Aide Admits India Pounded Pakistani Air Bases During Op Sindoor
Islamabad: Pakistan political commentator Najam Sethi has ripped into Islamabad's claim of Indian missiles hitting targets during military confrontation under Operation Sindoor. The former caretaker chief minister of Pakistan's Punjab Province said that India was able to target Pakistani air bases and "offices of freedom fighters" in precision strikes during the conflict in May. Pakistan has suffered heavy losses during the military offensive from May 9-10, with Indian forces destroying key terrorist strongholds and several air bases. "India has demonstrated this time that with the missile technology and missile accuracy, they were able to target both your bases and offices of so-called freedom fighters. They have demonstrated that (precision strikes) weather via air or ground attack," Sethi said during an interview with Pakistan's Samaa TV. Hard TRUTHS of #OperationSindoor - Former Punjab CM & Journo Ruins Munir's Pakistan Party India had a field (Marshal) day! Najam Sethi rips apart Pakistan's flaws in terms of India's precision missile strikes & its capabilities of striking 🇵🇰 with little or no defence system to… — RT_India (@RT_India_news) August 18, 2025 "The biggest threat is that if they (India) launch a missile strike against your air bases, where your planes are parked, a lot of damage can happen," he added. Sethi, who is known to be a close aide of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, noted that an Iron Dome-like defence system could have helped the nation protect itself against an Indian attack "We saw what our drawbacks were. Currently, we don't have any defence system like S-400 or Iron Dome, through which we can protect ourselves against Indian Missile attacks," Sethi said. A Russian-made S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system is a high-altitude air defence (HIMAD) system, while Iron Dome is an Israeli mobile all-weather air defence system, developed by Rafael Advanced Defence Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries. India has the S-400 Triumf air defence system. Sethi's statement came days after Islamabad's propaganda campaign claiming Pakistan suffered no losses in the war in May. During a recent event, Pakistan's interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, contradicted the publicly available proof and claimed none of the Indian missiles landed on targets at any major military base in Pakistan. Moreover, Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir, speaking at an event in Belgium, reportedly claimed that India was "forced to beg for a ceasefire" during the recent India-Pakistan conflict and that US President Donald Trump had to intervene to mediate. New Delhi has maintained that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was reached through Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level talks, with no mediation by the United States.

The agreement was signed during a courtesy visit by British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. The British High Commissioner expressed confidence in the strengthening relations between the UK and India, mentioning the recently signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Vision 35 as catalysts for numerous business opportunities. 'It's wonderful to be here in Lucknow today to sign with the Chief Minister the agreement on the new Chevening scholarships which we're announcing together between the United Kingdom and Uttar Pradesh. This will give the opportunity for five students every year for the next three years to go to the UK on a fully funded scholarship which is part of the fantastic and growing relationship between the United Kingdom and India," the High Commissioner Cameron told ANI after the meeting. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi To Visit Pakistan After India Trip
The top Chinese diplomat will undertake a two-day visit beginning on August 21 to co-chair the 6th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a three-day visit to India, will visit Pakistan on August 21 to attend the Pakistan-China strategic dialogue and hold meetings with the civil and military leadership to discuss bilateral ties as well as key regional and international developments. The top Chinese diplomat will undertake a two-day visit beginning on August 21, according to a statement released by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which he will review the current state of bilateral ties between the two countries and discuss key regional and international developments. Wang is visiting the country at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and will co-chair the sixth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue, according to the statement. 'The visit is part of the regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China to further deepen their 'All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership', reaffirm support on the issues of respective core interests, enhance economic and trade cooperation, and reaffirm their joint commitment to regional peace, development and stability." However, China's close relationship with Pakistan has been a source of concern for India. The two countries have maintained close diplomatic, economic and military cooperation for decades. China is Pakistan's chief defence supplier and has backed Islamabad's claims on Kashmir. Wang's visit to Pakistan comes after a series of geopolitical developments, including the India-Pakistan conflict, the war between Israel and Iran, and an uptick in ties between Pakistan and the United States. China had maintained communication with both India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor in May, but the Indian Armed Forces later revealed that China was sending Pakistan information about India's military assets. view comments First Published: August 19, 2025, 16:35 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
