Following UNC baseball's win vs. Oklahoma in the finale of the Chapel Hill Regional, Gavin Gallaher and the Tar Heels broke down the clincher.
Murray State became the latest regional No. 4 seed in the NCAA baseball tournament to join the super regionals party on Monday.
The Racers, who emerged out of the winner's bracket of the Oxford Regional, fell to No. 10 Ole Miss on Sunday night to force the winner-take-all, if-necessary game for a spot in the super regionals. But it was Murray State who prevailed Monday, becoming only the 10th 4-seed ever to win a regional, according to the ESPN broadcast.
Murray State defeated Ole Miss 12-11 in a barnburner on Monday, holding on despite blowing a 12-3 lead in the seventh inning. The Rebels, runners-up of the SEC tournament, scored eight unanswered runs across the seventh and eighth inning before Murray State threw up a zero in the top of the ninth inning to take the win.

Of those teams, three made the College World Series: Fresno State, which won the 2008 national championship, Stony Brook and Oral Roberts.
One of the best offenses in college baseball this season, Murray State's bats were hot all weekend in Oxford, Mississippi. The Racers, who rank 16th nationally averaging 8.7 runs per game, scored 42 runs in four regional games.
The win was Murray State's first-ever regional victory, with 2025 marking its fourth-ever NCAA tournament appearance and first since 2003.

Wisconsin-Whitewater wins DIII title by turning College World Series field into paste

Wisconsin-Whitewater wins DIII title by turning College World Series field into paste It's been a remarkable year for lower-level college baseball powerhouses. Last week, LSU-Shreveport capped off a historic 59-0 season with an NAIA championship. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wasn't quite as dominant at the Division III level. Until it mattered most. The Warhawks, perhaps better known for their football dynasty in the late 2000s and early 2010s, ran absolute roughshod over the competition at the Division III College World Series. UW-Whitewater's 21-5 win over Messiah University Wednesday afternoon -- an extremely Division III time to hold a national title game -- capped off a furious run through the eight-team field. The Warhawks scored a World Series record 74 runs in five games. Their opponents? 19. That's right, Wisconsin-Whitewater's title run was so ridiculous it outscored the Division III College World Series runner-up Messiah -- another scorching-hot team -- 39-8 in two games. The Warhawks' third national championship scattered a pile of wreckage in its wake. After taking a deciding game three in Super Regional action against WIAC rival Wisconsin-Oshkosh 10-0, Whitewater could barely be contained in Eastlake, Ohio. Their World Series opener against Trinity University was marred by cold weather and suspended mid-game. That 7-3 victory was as close as any opponent would get. Wins by the count of 11-4, 17-4 and 18-3 paved the way for Wednesday's beatdown. Every regular starter in the lineup finished with at least one RBI in the title clinching game and at least three on the week. While that wasn't enough to outpace the entire DIII College World Series field, meant the Warhawks generated more than 35 percent of the total runs from the eight-team bracket (74 of 211). They scored 30 more runs than the only other team to play five games in Ohio this year. This was a loss for fans of competitive baseball, but a wonderful outcome for everyone who likes watching missiles rocket off aluminum bats in front of a rapt crowd of dozens during a work day.

Bill Belichick Sets the Record Straight on Jordon Hudson's Responsibilities at North Carolina

North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick offered some clarity on his girlfriend's role with the Tar Heels. Belichick's move to the college ranks certainly created some excitement around the North Carolina program. The 73-year-old left the NFL as the league's second-all time coaching wins leader at 333 through 29 seasons. Advertisement However, the efforts to build UNC to national contention have been overlooked recently. Much has been made about 24-year-old Jordan Hudson's presence around the program after Belichick took over in January. Questions surrounding the relationship and the potential impact it is having on UNC have largely gone unanswered. Belichick cleared the air on the situation to former NFL defensive back and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark on Friday. Belichick insisted that his focus is on football, and that Hudson's role has nothing to do with the program. Jordon Hudson the girlfriend of Bill BelichickJim Dedmon-Imagn Images "That's what I do is I stay focused on football," he said on "The Pivot Podcast." "And some of the other opportunities that that come along, Jordan looks at those and can dig into them a little bit deeper. But really what she does helps me spend my time on football, and that's what's important to me." Advertisement Clark pressed Belichick for specifics on Hudson's job description, which appears to include only personal opportunties for Belichick outside of the game. "Well, nothing with North Carolina," Belichick said. "That would be number one. It would be personal opportunities. Could be a a speaking thing. It could be an appearance on this, or talk about that, or somebody wants whatever it happens to be." Belichick went on to describe the email fiasco that made headlines in April. Those emails, which were made public, showed Belichick asking UNC leaders to copy Hudson on emails moving forward. "I sent back an email, 'Can you please copy Jordan on these requests?'" Belichick said. "So that she could at least filter through them because there was nobody. We didn't have a sports information guy. That was taken – because all the emails are shared publicly – that was taken as Jordan's run in the sports information department. I mean, there was nobody to help me sort them out. So I was asking her to do that." Advertisement Belichick is expected to make his North Carolina debut when the Tar Heels open the 2025 season at home against TCU on Sept. 1. Questions Abound at UNC with Bill Belichick at Center of Attention

Questions Abound at UNC with Bill Belichick at Center of Attention originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Belichick leaving the NFL for the college game was a big enough story to spike interest in North Carolina, an oft-middling ACC program. But the ensuing media storm surrounding the 73-year-old's relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson has seen the attention on Chapel Hill ratchet up. Advertisement In a recent 'SportsCenter' appearance, Belichick said his girlfriend 'doesn't have anything to do with' UNC football after an awkward 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview in which she shut down a question. For as much off-field intrigue as the program has garnered in recent weeks with Belichick and Hudson in the spotlight, questions remain about the Tar Heels' on-field product ahead of their first season without coach Mack Brown in charge since 2018. 'Honestly, no one really has any idea what to expect on the field when they start this season,' an anonymous ACC assistant said in Athlon Sports' 2025 College Football Preview magazine. These comments were made in the Tar Heels' exclusive scouting report in Athlon's annual magazine, which is available for purchase online and at newsstands nationwide. North Carolina coach Bill Belichick and girlfriend Jordon Hudson have made headlines in recent weeks after a viral "CBS Sunday Morning" Lee-Imagn Images North Carolina is coming off a 6-7 campaign and a fifth consecutive bowl loss. The program only has one season with double-digit wins (11-3 in 2015) since the end of Brown's first go-around in 1997. But Belichick, a future Pro Football Hall of Famer, could turn things around if he catches on fast at the college level, which functions a bit differently than the league where he made his hay for the past five decades. Advertisement 'How Bill [Belichick] adjusts to the structure of the college game is gonna be crucial,' the scout said. 'It's less time you get with the players, which means it's less football intelligence.' The Tar Heels signed the 36th-ranked high school recruiting class, a step down from recent years. But their transfer haul more than makes up the difference. UNC's 40-player portal class is ranked ninth by 247 and is littered with Power 4 talent. 'The real interesting piece we're watching is how [GM Michael] Lombardi and the coaches approach the NIL portion,' the ACC assistant coach said. There have been reports that North Carolina is not throwing around money in the same fashion that some other FBS programs are in the NIL era with revenue sharing on the horizon. But Belichick's portal haul speaks for itself. The chance to play for the greatest defensive mind in NFL history is surely an attractive prospect, too. Six-time Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Belichick takes over a Tar Heels team that has never won an ACC championship.© Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images UNC has been branding itself as the NFL's '33rd team' with Belichick and Lombardi planning to bring their pro experience and approach to campus. Those comments caught the eye of the anonymous assistant coach in their league. Advertisement 'They've been vocal about criticizing other programs on how they spend and evaluate,' the coach said. 'There's talk about how they're going to become an advanced, pro-level scouting program that implements NIL better. We'll see. We do expect a better overall haul from these guys in high school recruiting than from Mack [Brown], at least until the novelty wears off or Bill gets a bad reputation.' It's fair to question whether Belichick's reputation already has taken a hit. And attention on him, Hudson and the Tar Heels will only ramp up in the lead-up to their Sept. 1 season opener against TCU when the Belichick era truly begins.
