BCCI told to phase out Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma before it's too late: 'How will you keep Pant, Sudharsan, Jaiswal out?'
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back in the news no sooner than a week after the end of India's Test series against England. The last and the 25th day of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy concluded last Monday, but while Ro-Ko is back doing the rounds, it's not for the best of reasons. Speculations around the future of two of India's biggest batting superstars are rife, with a belief that the tour of Australia in October could mark the end of their storied careers. The hope that Rohit and Kohli would feature in the 2027 World Cup for India, by when one would be 40 and the other 39, respectively, keeps diminishing with every passing day, with contradictive reports emerging from the media. How long before we see the last of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma?(AFP Images) The Dainik Jagran stated 24 hours ago that unless Kohli and Rohit agree to play the next Vijay Hazare Trophy, the ODIs in Australia could well be their last in India colours. Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, the ODIs and the IPL are all they have, and to keep up with match practice and form, every opportunity they get must be cashed in. However, a report in the PTI quoted a source saying that no such discussion has taken place and that Rohit and Kohli's case will only be looked at after the conclusion of next year's T20 World Cup, which, at the moment, is BCCI's priority. The topic has since kept gaining momentum. After former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly added fuel to the Ro-Ko buzz, another BCCI selector feels the board must prepare for a life without Kohli and Rohit. Devang Gandhi, a former BCCI national selector, reckons Kohli and Rohit must be phased out because of the long queue of youngsters ready to take ODI by storm. High on the heels of the England tour, Gandhi is confident that nurturing young blood and grooming talent is the way forward for Indian cricket, even if that means bidding adieu to two of its greatest cricketers of the last decade and more. "How will you make players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharshan, among others, sit out when they have shown how well they can adapt? The bigger transition is from T20s to Tests. Once a player has done well in Test cricket and has the power game, ODIs should come easier to them. It is very important that the selectors and the team management sit together and take a call," Gandhi told Times of India. 'Time doesn't wait for anybody' Gandhi's strong opinion could stem from India's solid showing by its batters in England. After Kohli and Rohit's retirement from Test cricket, across a gap of five days, it appeared as if India would struggle. But the eventual outcome was anything but that as the youngsters stepped, fighting tooth and nail to heroically draw the series 2-2. Furthermore, with no shortage of talent lined up in ODIs, Indian cricket seems to be in good hands, but if the youngsters aren't looked after properly, its present and future could be in jeopardy, asserts Gandhi. "If, say, in a year's time, we come to a situation where one of them is not firing and we need a replacement, the team management may not have enough time to prepare a player for the job. There's absolutely no doubt about the contribution of Rohit and Virat. But time doesn't wait for anybody," he added.

Meet Harry Gill, the fan who took a stunning one-handed catch while holding two vodka cans in the other
Harry Gill takes a one-handed stunner during Australia vs South Africa first T20I match in Darwin. (Screengrab) Like any other spectator, Harry Gill was enjoying his evening, watching international cricket return to Darwin after 17 years, with a couple of vodka cans in hand. Little did he know that he would end up becoming a celebrity in his hometown. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! In the 12th over of Australia's innings against South Africa, Tim David hammered a flat six into the crowd, where Gill pulled off a one-handed stunner with his left hand while holding both drinks in his right — without spilling a drop. 'The lemonade ones are bloody good. I've got a bit of a hangover this morning,' Gill was quoted as saying by The Age. 'It just stuck. My hand is a bit sore this morning but, yeah, happy with it. My phone is blowing up,' said the 26-year-old pilot from Darwin. Gill's grab has been compared to the famous crowd catch taken by Channel Nine cameraman Tony Fox in 1987, when Ian Botham launched Simon O'Donnell down the ground for six. Fox took it with both hands — cigarette in mouth. Gill admitted his dad had sent him the clip, but he isn't putting himself in the same league. Poll Was Harry Gill's catch more impressive than the famous catch by Tony Fox in 1987? Yes, definitely! No, Tony Fox's catch was iconic. Both were amazing in their own right. 'His is so much cooler, bro,' Gill said. 'I wish I had a durry [cigarette] in my mouth so I could have done that. Sanju Samson reveals one IPL decision he would like to change as Rajasthan Royals captain, says ‘not retaining…'
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson revealed if one thing that he could change in his life was to reinstate Ravichandran Ashwin into the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. Ashwin, who started his IPL career at Chennai Super Kings, spent eight years at the five-time champions, before moving to Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Delhi Capitals before plying his trade for Samson-led Rajasthan Royals for three years from 2022 and 2024. Speaking to Ashwin in his YouTube show Kutti Stories with Ash, Samson admitted his biggest regret is releasing the 38-year-old. 'Not retaining Ash bhai (Ashwin),' stated Samson on being asked about one decision he'd want to change from his life. The duo immediately burst into laughter following the conversation. During the show, Samson also dived deep into Rajasthan Royals captaincy which changed his perspective, gameplay and point of view. Samson was appointed as the captain of the Rajasthan franchise before the start of the IPL 2021, taking over from Steve Smith. "Captaincy has opened up my perspective and helped me to accept these kind of ways. There is no one way of succeeding in cricket. I don't believe that there is only one way. When people are trying different things, I like to back them instead of questioning them," added Samson. Samson also revealed a hilarious but effective practice of Shimron Hetmyer, who wakes up just three hours before a match and still wins the game for the franchise with his destructive batting. "This guy, the match is at 8 PM, he will wake up at 5 PM, and be all sleepy during team meetings and all. Then he will score the most important runs for the team and win them the game. So, there is a way to do like that also," concluded Samson.
