MIU of CCP achieves 92pc efficiency rate
Over the past year, the MIU identified more than 170 potential cases of anti-competitive behaviour across a range of sectors. These leads were referred to the relevant departments for further action, with the following outcomes:
1; The Cartels and Trade Abuses (C&TA) Department selected five leads for formal inquiries under Section 37 (1) of the Competition Act, 2010.
2; The Office of Fair Trade (OFT) initiated 28 inquiries based on MIU referrals.
3; All five merger-related leads flagged involved consummated mergers, prompting in-depth scrutiny and potential enforcement actions.
4; Adopting AI for Market Surveillance
5; The MIU's success is fuelled by the strategic use of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced digital tools for market monitoring. These include:
6; Web scraping techniques to systematically collect data from digital platforms.
7; Utilization of Google Cloud Vision AI and Microsoft Azure AI to extract and analyze market intelligence from visual and textual data.
These capabilities have enhanced MIU's ability to proactively detect collusion, deceptive marketing, and abuse of dominance.
The MIU continues to be a key pillar in CCP's enforcement structure by providing actionable intelligence that leads to investigations and shapes policy direction. These insights help initiate sectoral studies and advocacy campaigns, assisting the Commission anticipate market distortions and emerging competition threats.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday announced the continuation of the government's facilitation scheme aimed at encouraging overseas Pakistanis to remit money through formal banking channels. The initiative, titled the Workers' Remittances Incentive Scheme, seeks to support the country's economy by bolstering foreign exchange reserves and maintaining external account stability. In a directive issued to the Ministry of Finance, the prime minister ordered the immediate release of funds on a priority basis to sustain the scheme. He also noted that these inflows had not only helped manage the country's swelling import bill but also strengthened its foreign exchange reserves. 'From migrant labourers to expatriate businessmen, all have played an integral role in supporting Pakistan's economy through remittances.' CM briefed about ‘Model Village', ‘Suthra Punjab'
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting for a briefing on Model Village, 'Suthra' (Clean) Punjab and Waste to Value Projects. She reviewed the progress made so far on a project to develop 1200 model villages in Punjab. She said,'24/7 water supply, complete sewage network and waste management treatment plant will be built in every model village.' She added, 'Punjab's model village will also have paved streets, road rehabilitation, children's park and tree plantation. Houses will be numbered and signboards will also be installed in model villages.' The Chief Minister was briefed by the authorities concerned on solar system-powered water supply and sewage system model for the model villages. She was apprised that development projects in 130 villages of the pilot phase under model village project have been completed. The CM sought a deadline for the early completion of model village project, and said, 'Priority will be determined in the model village project by keeping in mind public needs of the area.
