Roblox Sued for Alleged Role in Sextortion, Assault of 11-Year-Old
Lawsuit alleges gaming platform enabled predator's grooming, sextortion, and sexual abuse of Child: SGGH and Milberg law firms represent over 400 victims of sexual exploitation on Roblox and Discord A lawsuit filed today alleges Roblox Corporation, the popular online gaming platform, enabled the grooming, sextortion, and sexual assault of a 11-year-old child through its online gaming platform in around 2007. The Plaintiff, now an adult and former United States Marine, is sharing his story for the first time — alleging Roblox's failure to implement safety measures allowed an adult predator to target and abuse him in what attorneys call an 'egregious case of public importance.' Stinar Gould Grieco & Hensley, PLLC and Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman, PLLC filed the complaint in The United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in the Dallas Division. It alleges the perpetrator, posing as another child on Roblox, gained Plaintiff's trust through in-game messaging and exchanges of Robux, the platform's digital currency, which online predators frequently use to groom young users. Eventually, the perpetrator coerced Plaintiff into sharing explicit photos of himself in exchange for Robux. The user began threatening to publicly release the images unless Plaintiff paid him a sum of money or agreed to meet in-person. When Plaintiff arrived at the designated location nearby in Ennis, Texas, he discovered the individual was not a peer, but an adult man in his 30s. What followed was horrific molestation and sexual abuse of a child at the hands of the perpetrator — the effects of which Plaintiff continues to endure. The lawsuit alleges Roblox has refused to adopt reasonable safety features that could have prevented this abuse and others like it. These include age-gating, stricter content moderation, better identity verification, and stronger parental controls. 'There are simple, well-known steps Roblox could have taken to protect kids — but it chose not to,' said Martin D. Gould, Founding Partner of SGGH. 'This wasn't an accident. It was a business decision. And children like our client have paid the price.' Internal accounts from former employees reveal Roblox knowingly deprioritized child safety in favor of user growth. One former staffer described the company's approach succinctly: 'You can keep your players safe, but then there would be less of them on the platform. Or you just let them do what they want to do. And then the numbers all look good and investors will be happy.' 'When your own employees are acknowledging safety gets sacrificed for user growth, that's not just negligence — it's a systemic failure,' said Steven L. Vanderporten, Partner at SGGH. 'Our client's life was forever changed because of that failure, and Roblox must be held accountable.' Despite this knowledge, Roblox launched extensive marketing campaigns claiming their platform was safe. Roblox claimed 'safety is in our DNA' and promised 'cutting-edge technologies' to protect users, and assured parents of 'zero-tolerance' for endangering children all while claiming safety was 'at the core of everything we do.' The complaint alleges this follows a well-documented pattern the company was aware of but failed to prevent, despite having the technological means to do so. 'When a company tells parents 'safety is in our DNA,' yet knowingly fails to prevent harm it has the power to stop, that's not just negligence — it's a betrayal of trust,' said SGGH Founding Partner, Mike Grieco. 'This lawsuit exposes a pattern of deception: public promises of protection while internally ignoring clear dangers,' said Gary Klinger, Partner at Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman, PLLC. 'Roblox had the tools to prevent this kind of abuse and chose not to use them.' The plaintiff seeks compensatory and punitive damages through ten counts including fraudulent misrepresentation, negligence, and strict liability claims. The lawsuit comes amid growing scrutiny of social media platforms' child safety practices and recent investigations revealing widespread exploitation on Roblox, including the discovery of hundreds of Roblox games themed around convicted criminals. The Plaintiff is represented by Martin D. Gould, Michael R. Grieco, and Steven L. Vanderporten of Stinar Gould Grieco & Hensley, PLLC, Gary Klinger, Melissa Nafash, Melinda Maxson, and Alexander Wolf of Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman, PLLC. Teen brutally assaulted outside Simi Valley movie theater says attack was racially-motivated
A teen is speaking out after he said he was violently assaulted by a group of teens in a racially-motivated attack outside a Simi Valley movie theater. On Aug. 2, Michael Robsinon, 18, was enjoying a night out with friends near Regal Cinemas on Tapo Canyon Road when a group of intoxicated, hostile teenagers started by picking on his friend, with whom they had prior issues. They reportedly punched his friend in the face before turning their attention to Robinson, yelling racial slurs at him. 'They hit one of my friends in the face first,' Robinson said. 'Then, they hit another. Then, they rush me and I'm in between two cars. I managed to get out from behind the two cars and I run into the parking lot. As I run into the parking lot, they proceed to slam me into the hood of somebody's car and jump me.' Cell video captured by a witness showed the teen assailants repeatedly punching and kicking Robinson as they surrounded him in the parking lot. Robinson tried running away, but they followed. At one point, he tried to shield himself with a chair as the group moved in and hurled profanities at him. He asked a mall security guard for help, but said the guard refused to intervene. 'They still caught me, and when they caught me, they decided they were going to put my head in the trash can and proceeded to hit me in the back of my head,' Robinson said. Video of the assault, which was widely circulated on social media, has prompted community outrage and concern. Some social media users have described the incident as a 'horrific anti-Black racist hate crime.' The attack left Robinson with cuts, bruises and a chipped tooth. After Robinson and his mother reported the attack, a criminal investigation was launched. Robinson said he had no association with any of the assailants. On Aug. 3, four teens were arrested for battery. A department spokesperson confirmed that one of the teen suspects is the son of a Simi Valley police officer and noted that the officer would not be involved in the investigation. During a Simi Valley city council meeting on Aug. 4, residents called for justice, with many saying the suspects needed to be held accountable for their actions. 'What happened on Saturday is a hate crime and I urge you to ask the DA to investigate and prosecute it as such,' one resident said. 'Hate crimes cannot continue to be swept under the rug,' a young resident said. 'On behalf of the Black student body of Simi Valley, we demand justice for Michael Robinson.' Jamal Tooson, the attorney representing Robinson, said he and many others are calling for an equitable investigation. 'The entire county of Ventura is watching and, broadly, on a national level, we are going to be looking to see how this situation is handled,' he said. Robinson said that by sharing his story, he hopes to not only bring awareness to such issues, but that it will prevent another person from being attacked in the same way. 'I forgive [the attackers], but there are consequences to your actions,' he said. The four teenagers have since been cited and released. KTLA has reached out to the Ventura County District Attorney's office for an update on whether hate crime charges will be filed and is awaiting a response. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Family of victims in deadly hit-and-run in Livonia speak out
Family of victims in deadly hit-and-run in Livonia speak out Family of victims in deadly hit-and-run in Livonia speak out Family of victims in deadly hit-and-run in Livonia speak out On the night of June 29, Michael Robinson got a call he will never forget. "I turned the corner, and I saw my wife fall to the floor, and I knew something was definitely wrong," said Michael Robinson. His daughter, Tia Robinson, and her 3-year-old twins were struck as they were walking near Lyndon Street and Merriman Road in Livonia. Tia Robinson and her daughter were seriously injured, and her young son was killed. "We had no idea the devastation that we would be facing," said Michael Robinson. Police say the driver accused in the hit and run, 55-year-old Tammy Sandoval of Mt. Morris, originally took off and was later arrested. She faces several charges, including driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a scene causing serious injury and death. Her bond is set at $600,000. Michael Robinson says he is still processing his feelings around Sandoval's arrest. "I'm not mad at her, I'm not upset, and hold no grudges. The best way I can say it is I really don't know how I feel," said Michael Robinson. Michael Robinson says his daughter remains hospitalized, recovering from severe injuries. "Nothing's changed; they have her still sedated," said Michael Robinson. He says his young granddaughter is doing much better, having been released from the hospital this week, and is now back home with family. "She's all scratched up, scarred up, but she has no broken bones or anything," said Michael Robinson. Michael Robinson says the support from the community has been incredible, namely the thousands of dollars raised by the Livonia First Responder Foundation to help. "They have showed us more love than we would ever imagine, and for them to reach out to us and extend the hand of gratitude, as they've done, and all the people that have donated, we really and truly appreciate it," said Michael Robinson. As their family navigates a long recovery, Michael Robinson says they are leaning on each other during this tragic time. "My daughter, she would move heaven and earth for her kids. She loved her children very dearly, and this is going to be hard to let her know that she lost her baby," he said. If you would like to support Tia Robinson and her family, reach out to the Livonia First Responder Foundation.
