Globaltec's Australian unit gears up for early coal bed methane sales

KUALA LUMPUR: Globaltec Formation Bhd's Australia-listed unit, NuEnergy Gas Ltd, has commenced drilling site preparation activities at its Tanjung Enim production sharing contract (PSC) in South Sumatra, Indonesia.
This comes as the group moves closer to first coal bed methane production under its early gas sales initiative, NuEnergy said in its quarterly activities report, which Globaltec filed with Bursa Malaysia today.
The company, through its subsidiary Dart Energy (Tanjung Enim) Pte Ltd, finalised a gas sales and purchase agreement with Indonesia's national gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) at the end of 2024.
The drilling site preparation work involves building access roads, repairing bridges, clearing land and constructing foundations, mud pits and flare stacks.

The area also includes a site designated for PGN's compressed natural gas facility. The first of four wells is expected to be spudded in May.
Elsewhere, NuEnergy continues dewatering operations at its Muralim PSC, also in South Sumatra, to gather gas production data.
It is also awaiting government approvals to advance environmental permitting at its Muara Enim PSC.
Separately, the company is in the process of relinquishing its Muara Enim II PSC.
During the March quarter, NuEnergy posted a net operating cash outflow of A$143,000 and capital expenditure of A$822,000.
Its cash and cash equivalents stood at A$3.92 million at the end of the quarter, giving it an estimated funding runway of four quarters based on current expenditure levels.
NuEnergy, an independent clean energy company focused on Indonesian unconventional gas, holds three coal bed methane PSCs in South Sumatra.
It aims to integrate these assets into a coal bed methane production hub, targeting sustainable energy supply for Indonesia's growing market.

Indonesia's 2026 budget is designed to make the country strong, President Prabowo says

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said efficiency measures would be needed to reduce the country's budget deficit. -- PHOTO: REUTERS JAKARTA (Reuters): Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto on Friday (Aug 15) said his budget for 2026 would be designed to ensure the South-East Asian country was strong, independent and prosperous, as he delivered his first speech on fiscal policy to Parliament. The budget proposal is the first developed by Prabowo's administration after he took office in October 2024. The 2025 budget was prepared by his predecessor, Joko Widodo. Prabowo has pledged to lift spending as he seeks to raise economic growth to 8 per cent during his five-year term and deliver on his campaign platform of improving welfare and achieving food and energy self-sufficiency. In his address, Prabowo said the 2026 budget deficit was seen at 2.48 per cent of gross domestic product. He said efficiency measures would need to be taken to reduce the gap and vowed to have no deficit by 2027 or 2028. For 2026, he proposed to spend 335 trillion rupiah (S$26.3 billion) on his flagship programme to deliver free meals to 82.9 million students, children and pregnant women. Prabowo allotted 171 trillion rupiah for the free meals programme this year, which he said has reached about 20 million recipients. He also promised budgetary support to decarbonise Indonesia's electricity, saying he wanted the country to use 100 per cent renewable power sources in the next ten years or earlier. Indonesia currently relies on coal for over half of its power generation. In his address, Prabowo, a former defence minister and special forces commander, also said Indonesia must modernise its military hardware, adding his country had rare earths deposits that were vital to modern defence. -- REUTERS

Indonesia's president highlights economic growth and welfare reforms

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the country's resilient economy and ambitious welfare programmes during his first state address to parliament. The former military leader, who took office in October, has focused on rapid state-driven growth to position Indonesia as a global economic force. His administration faces scrutiny over costly initiatives like the free school meal programme, which aims to tackle childhood stunting but has raised fiscal concerns. Prabowo pointed to Indonesia's second-quarter growth of 5.12 percent, exceeding forecasts despite global economic tensions. 'Amid political conflict, global economic conflict, (and the US) trade war... Indonesia still managed to grow above five percent,' he told lawmakers. The president also noted a decline in unemployment to its lowest level since the Asian financial crisis. His free lunch scheme, targeting 20 million schoolchildren and pregnant mothers, has drawn criticism over funding cuts and implementation issues. 'Our goal... is to be free from poverty, free from hunger, free from suffering,' Prabowo said, defending the programme. Protests erupted earlier this year over budget reallocations to finance welfare projects and a new sovereign wealth fund. Prabowo succeeded Joko Widodo last year after a campaign promising policy continuity and economic transformation.
