TableTaps in Wrexham named Leader finalist for 'Best Pubs'

Leader Live23-07-2025
Known as Wrexham's very first licenced board games club, this finalist is certainly not your traditional boozer with hand-stretched pizza and social games on the go.
The venue, located at Lord Street, has become a go-to for many for immersive rooms, great drinks and endless tabletop gaming fun.

It was first opened by owner and landlord (and cleaner) Stephen Mitchell in 2023.
On behalf of the team, including bar and facility manager Joshua Lowe, he is over the moon with the nomination, and admits he had 'no idea' customers named him to be a finalist.
"I would like to hope people voted for us as we are wholly unique", Stephen said.
"A Fantasy TableTop Tavern where a good pint of Wrexham can be enjoyed over hundreds of games with friends!
"We are one of only a handful of bars to serve Mead on tap as well, meaning a novel experience.
"Winning would hopefully show recognition to the many talented people who helped build it within my family, both familiar and found, everything was custom made by hand and the murals are a special highlight.
"Ultimately so many people have found a place they never thought would ever exist and we thank them for it."
TableTaps began with a simple idea; to create a distinctive space where people can enjoy social tabletop gaming, perhaps with a drink or two.
Stephen is passionate and proud to have brought the unique concept to life, offering a warm environment and welcome for all enthusiasts.
Do you think TableTaps should be crowned the best across Wrexham and Flintshire?
Voting opens on July 21 until August 1 with voting slips available in our newspaper.

Edinburgh schoolgirl 'living her dream' as youngest Fringe street performer aged 11

More info An Edinburgh schoolgirl has been named the youngest Fringe street performer at the festival this year. Caitlin Roisin, 11, started playing musical instruments when she was just two-years-old and has continued to progress her talents for almost 10 years. Since the Festival Fringe got underway this year, Caitlin has put on a street performance six times. Along with her guitar, the aspiring musician performs songs including Zombie, Counting Stars and Shotgun. Building large crowds around her as she performs, dad Stephen Tierney, is "extremely proud" of his daughter. Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Caitlin said: "I started to play my first instrument at two and I just built it up and up. I started going to Totally Sound and after that I got used to doing some busking. "When I heard I could do busking at the Fringe, we signed up for it. I have done six performances so far. "Sometimes it can be scary but when you continue it, everything becomes calmer. I am really proud of myself." Performing on the Royal Mile, Caitlin is surrounded by a number of experienced buskers of an older age. Dad Stephen, said it is "startling" seeing her perform to a large crowd of people. She recently started P7 and is planning on balancing her school life with her busking throughout the month. Stephen added: "When she first started performing, I was impressed she had the confidence at 11 - I am obviously very proud of her. "I think it's remarkable what she can do. It's startling when you see her next to other professional street performers. I think a lot of people do a double take because she is smaller and younger. "A lot of the locals relationship with the fringe is a love/hate one so it's nice for a local to be up there and claiming a bit of there for herself. Our house is full of instruments and when she was two, she expressed an interest. "We got her a ukulele and she would make up songs from a very young age. She became competent and when she was seven, she got her first guitar and it's progressed from there." After first starting her music journey with Totally Sound, Caitlin will be performing at Mercat Cross behind St Giles Cathedral as part of their Community Stage 2025. The show will take place on Friday, August 22, at 3.30pm.

ITV The Fortune Hotel's Stephen Mangan hits back at comparisons to The Traitors

ITV's hit series The Fortune Hotel returns for a second series tonight - and host Stephen Mangan has addressed some fans' claims that the show is similar to BBC One's The Traitors ITV's gameshow The Fortune Hotel is back tonight, with a new cast of contestants hoping to take home a suitcase carrying £250,000 from the Caribbean resort. Hosted by actor Stephen Mangan, the new series is set to kick off with a major twist - as one couple is kicked off the show before they even make it to the hotel. ‌ Since premiering last year, the show has faced some comparisons to BBC One hit The Traitors - however, Stephen has insisted that the two series are very different. "I don't mind at all - The Traitors is a great show and there's plenty of room for more than one show," he told The Mirror in an exclusive chat. ‌ "I think it's clearly very different. We have those really tense sessions at the end but there's also a lot of fun in our show. It's really fun to watch. People are hilarious in it. ‌ "But I'm flattered by those comparisons. The proof of the pudding is always in whether people watch it and a lot of people watched out first series so that's the best thing really." Stephen Mangan spent a month in the Caribbean to film ITV 's The Fortune Hotel, but it wasn't all plain sailing - with the TV presenter admitting that it was 'tough' being away from his family for that long. ‌ The 57-year-old, who shares two sons with wife Louise Delamere, said: 'It was during term time so my family couldn't join hard phoning home when your wife's doing the school run in the rain in November and you're complaining about it being too hot on the beach. It doesn't go down very well.' As tensions rise and couples squabble, Stephen reveals that he struggles to watch the contestants bicker on the beach - which they do several times in the series. 'I don't like people falling out in front of me,' he says. 'I know some people go through life creating that drama but I'm not one of those people.' With the show now under his belt, Stephen admits that he now has no excuse not to do I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. 'I would like to say that I wouldn't want to go away from my family for that long to the jungle but clearly I'm doing it,' he says. While he's not too keen for the jungle, Stephen wants to bring back classic Channel 4 sitcom Green Wing after two decades. 'That would be fun to see them 20 years later,' he says. 'Comedy will always be my first love and I'll always come back to it.' The Fortune Hotel airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1.
