Khareef Dhofar: Modern Promenade at Ateen Plain to shine

Observer02-07-2025
Salalah, July 2
This year, the Modern Promenade at Ateen Plain will be at the heart of Khareef Dhofar 2025, offering a vibrant programme of interactive experiences curated by Dhofar Municipality. Set against a backdrop of misty hills and cool breezes, the promenade blends entertainment and education in a setting that showcases Oman's evolving creative scene.
Among the main attractions is 'World for Kids', a mini global village designed for children. The interactive experience leads young visitors on a playful cultural journey — from the Americas and Australia to France, Italy, the Gulf, Egypt and Yemen — through hands-on workshops, live performances and daily competitions. Local and international street foods complete the sensory immersion.
Also making its return is the enchanting 'Princess Palace', a fantasy space where young girls can explore a fairytale world inspired by royal palaces. With arts and crafts stations, themed photo corners and live shows, the venue offers a safe and inspiring environment tailored to spark imagination.
Other highlights across the promenade include the Musical Walkway, where live music fills the air; the dazzling Carnival of Illuminated Carts and World of Lights, which create immersive visual spectacles; as well as Band & Box performances that merge theatre, storytelling and learning. Visitors can also enjoy a health-themed walking track and explore an array of gourmet food trucks serving regional and global cuisine.
Now a signature destination of Oman's Khareef Dhofar season, the Modern Promenade is more than a venue — it is an invitation to discover the Sultanate of Oman's rich cultural identity and family-friendly vision for tourism.

Salalah – The Al Haffa Beach Market in Salalah has reaffirmed its place as one of Dhofar's most vibrant heritage and tourism destinations this khareef season, celebrating Omani identity while supporting hundreds of families engaged in the cottage industry. Spread across more than 356 stalls, the market offers visitors a wide range of handicrafts, traditional foods, local products, and heritage items. At its heart is the dedicated frankincense market, overseen by Dhofar Municipality, where visitors can learn about the extraction process and the many uses of this signature Omani treasure. 'Over 300 families are participating, presenting their handicrafts, traditional foods, and other Omani products in an atmosphere filled with the fragrance of frankincense, live performances, and traditional colours,' said Salim bin Abdullah Fadhel, supervisor of the frankincense market for productive families. This year, organisers have expanded exhibition spaces, improved facilities and parking, and introduced redesigned kiosks inspired by traditional Omani architecture. 'These enhancements not only elevate the visitor experience but also reflect the rich cultural identity of Dhofar,' Fadhel added. The market remains open until the end of khareef, offering daily performances by Omani art groups, children's programmes, and a variety of restaurants, cafes, and banking services. Al Haffa Market manager Haitham Mahmoud Gad described it as a key stop for visitors from within Oman and abroad.
