PM Modi inaugurates Yellow line of Bangalore Metro Rail
The Prime Minister also took a metro ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Electronic City metro station and he interacted with students during the journey.
The over 19-km route from RV Road to Bommasandra of Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project worth around Rs 7,160 crore has 16 stations, officials said.
With the opening of the yellow line, the operational metro rail network in Bengaluru will increase to over 96 km serving a large population in the region.
According to officials, the new facility is expected to ease traffic congestion in several heavily congested corridors like Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.
Noting that "3 train sets" have arrived for the yellow line and the fourth will arrive this month, Deputy CM and Minister in-charge for Bengaluru development, D K Shivakumar had recently said, three trains will operate now at an interval of 25 minutes.
The frequency would be increased to 10 minutes later.
A large number of people who had gathered on both sides of the road greeted the Prime Minister with "Modi, Modi" slogans and showered petals despite rain as his convoy made its way towards the Ragigudda station from KSR Bengaluru (city) railway station.
Modi too responded by waving at them from inside his car.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State, Shobha Karandlaje, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, among others were present.

16 Border Security Force Personnel Get Gallantry Medals For Operation Sindoor
New Delhi: Sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been awarded gallantry medals for displaying "conspicuous bravery" and "unmatched valour" during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. The medals for gallantry (GM) for these troops, some of whom destroyed enemy surveillance cameras while others neutralised drone attacks, were announced by the Union government on the eve of the 79th Independence Day. The paramilitary force is tasked with guarding the 2,290-km-long India-Pakistan International Border (IB), apart from the Line of Control (LoC), under the Army's operational control along the western flank of the country. "This Independence Day, 16 Brave Seema Praharis (border guards) are being awarded Gallantry Medals for their conspicuous bravery & unmatched valour, for being resolute & steadfast during the Ops Sindoor. "The medals are a testament to the Nation's faith & trust reposed in India's First Line of Defence: The Border Security Force," the BSF said in a social media post. Under Operation Sindoor undertaken by the three defence forces along with the BSF on the border, India targeted terrorist and military facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir from May 7 to 10 in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. Two BSF personnel were killed in action, while seven were injured during the operation. Sub-Inspector Vyas Dev, who lost his left leg after a Pakistani mortar shell fell at his border post, has been awarded, along with Constable Suddi Rabha, for undertaking a "risk-prone" mission to replenish ammunition to forward deployed troops during the operation. Dev's citation said he "suffered life-threatening injuries, but he remained conscious, stabilised himself and bravely engaged in his given task, motivated his fellow soldiers and exhibited tremendous courage". Rabha stood "shoulder-to-shoulder" with his commander (Dev) and refused to yield despite suffering grievous injuries. Another unit commanded by under-probation Assistant Commandant Abhishek Srivastav was deployed at the highly sensitive border post at Kharkola in Jammu, only 200 metres from the IB. On May 10, Srivastav along with his troops -- Head Constable Brij Mohan Singh and Constables Depeswar Barman, Bhupendra Bajpai, Rajan Kumar and Basavaraja Shivappa Sunkada -- engaged a swarm of Pakistani drones and neutralised them, but one UAV dropped a mortar shell in their bunker. Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham were killed in this action. They are expected to be decorated with military medals for bravery posthumously. Another unit under Deputy Commandant Ravindra Rathore, Inspector Devi Lal, Head Constable Sahib Singh and Constable Kanwaraj Singh displayed "exceptional courage" and "operational brilliance" under intense pressure and saved the life of a fellow jawan "whose life was in peril". Assistant Sub-Inspector Udai Vir Singh was deployed at the Jabowal border post in Jammu and he destroyed a Pakistani surveillance camera amid "intense" enemy fire at his location. Despite suffering a life-threatening sharpnel wound to his upper lip, Singh refused evacuation and went on to destroy a Pakistani "heavy machine gun nest (post)", his citation stated. "His actions ensured uninterrupted domination from the Indian side and inspired fellow troops," it said. ASI Rajappa BT and Constable Manohar Xalxo undertook a "high risk" mission at border post Karotana Khurd in Jammu on May 10 when the said post reported "critical shortage" of automatic grenade launcher ammunition. While replenishing the ammunition, a mortar shell fell on the magazine and the two suffered grievous injuries, but they ensured completion of their task. Assistant Commandant Alok Negi, along with two of his troops, executed "relentless and accurate" mortar fire on enemy positions for 48 hours and their "fearless" conduct ensured zero casualties and maintained operational dominance, according to the citation. The government also announced gallantry medals for other police and central armed police forces personnel, who undertook other operations. This includes 128 for Jammu and Kashmir Police, 20 for the CRPF and 14 for Chhattisgarh Police.

Vision 2047 targets to make UP $6 Tneconomy, raise PCI to Rs 26L: Yogi
Lucknow: Concluding the marathon 24-hour debate on Vision 2047 in the state Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Thursday that the blueprint sets the target to make UP a $6 trillion economy. "The govt is also committed to raising the per capita income to Rs 26 lakh per annum by 2047," he added. The CM asserted that Uttar Pradesh would lead India's march to 'Viksit Bharat'. "India can become a developed nation only when every state meets its responsibility, adding that UP would be at the forefront of this mission," he said. Sharing that the blueprint for Viksit Uttar Pradesh has been built on 3 themes and 12 sectors, the CM said: "Building on eight years of progress, the government aims to make Uttar Pradesh a $1 trillion economy by 2030, and chart a course toward $6 trillion by 2047, increasing the state's GDP share from 9.3% to at least 16%, he stated. Yogi said that the current national per capita income is about Rs 2 lakh, while Uttar Pradesh's average is much lower. "The goal is that by 2047, the state's per capita income should be at least Rs 26 lakh annually, equal to or above the national average," the CM said, adding "there is a roadmap to raise the average growth rate to 15%." House passes bill to raise salary of legislators by 30%
Lucknow: The UP Assembly on Thursday passed a bill to allow 30% raise in legislators' salaries and allowances. The increased salary will be effective from April 1, 2025, finance minister Suresh Khanna told TOI and added that the much-awaited demand to link the salary with cost inflation index has also been heeded to. From now on, the salary of the legislators would be revised as per cost inflation index every five years, Khanna said and added that only a notification would be issued when the revision is effected. As per the bill, legislators' basic salary has been increased from the existing Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 while ministers' salary has been increased from existing Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. The area allowance given to legislators has also been increased from the existing Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000, the bill stated. The railway coupon has been increased from Rs 4.25 lakh per year to Rs 5 lakh per year. The increased Rs 5 lakh railway coupon will be 100% convertible. Earlier, of the Rs 4.25 lakh railway coupon, only Rs 3 lakh worth coupons were convertible to other means of transport like vehicle and flight while Rs 1.25 lakh coupon had to be mandatorily used as railway conveyance. The UP government has also increased legislators' personal assistance allowance from existing Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 while medical allowance has also been increased from Rs 30,000 to Rs 45,000. The daily allowance to legislators has also been increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 while the House sitting allowance has been increased from existing Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500, Khanna said while tabling the bill. Telephone allowance has also been increased from existing Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000, Khanna said. Allowance and pension for the ex-MLA has also been increased from Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh, including Railway coupons. Similarly, family pension has also been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000, Khanna said and added in the case of death of the MLA and his or her spouse, children will get the family pension evenly distributed among the number of siblings. However, if the spouse of the MLA is alive, the family pension will go to the spouse. Since the increased salary will be effective from April 1, 2025, the arrears will be given to the legislators when the next salary would be given.
