Olivia Rodrigo's Albums Manage An Odd Performance On The Charts

Forbes09-05-2025

It's been over a year and a half since Olivia Rodrigo released an album. The singer-songwriter has only dropped two projects throughout her incredibly successful career, starting with Sour and, then returning more recently, Guts, which arrived in September 2023. Since their release, both full-lengths have continued to perform incredibly well, consistently appearing on rankings dedicated to both streaming activity and sales.
Due to continued consumption in both areas, the titles also regularly show up on general consumption lists. While there are some stark differences between the Grammy-nominated sets in terms of pure purchases in the United Kingdom, it seems that streaming activity around both Sour and Guts is almost identical, which is an amazing feat considering the two were released more than two years apart.
This week in the U.K., Sour and Guts sit side-by-side on the Official Albums Streaming ranking. That list is dedicated solely to the full-lengths and EPs that accumulate the most plays on Spotify, Apple Music, and other similar platforms.
This frame, the two titles actually swap places. Sour, the older of the two, rises from No. 25 to No. 24. At the same time, Guts dips one spot to No. 25. The fact that both efforts are still living inside the top 40 on the list of the most-streamed albums in the U.K. — one of the largest music markets in the world — is huge for her.
What's even more notable is that the number of streams these collections are garnering week after week appears to be nearly identical. Last frame, they sat right next to one another on this tally. This time around, that statement still rings true, even as each moves just one spot.
For every release in a musician's catalog to be generating what must be a massive number of plays on streaming platforms — especially after so much time — and for them to be competing with one another, despite one being significantly older, speaks volumes about Rodrigo's longevity and continued popularity. Her work constantly displays continued longevity, and neither set is more popular on streaming sites than the other…at least not in any meaningful way at this point in their lifespans.
When it comes to sales, however, the story changes. Guts drops more than 20 spaces on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts, though it's still present between Nos. 60 and 65 on those lists. Sour, by comparison, appears at least 10 spots further down — and on the Official Albums Sales list, it comes in 20 positions lower than Guts. That's not unusual, as older collections typically don't sell as well as newer ones. It's quite clear, though, that Rodrigo's fans are more than happy to continue streaming both releases almost equally.

Jacky Wu dismisses backlash against his interview with MAMAMOO's Solar

11 Jun - Jacky Wu recently dismissed the backlash against him over his recent comment in front of MAMAMOO's member, Solar on his show, "Mr. Player". The whole issue sparked after Solar appeared on the show to promote her Chinese EP, "Floating Free", inviting praises from Jacky who told her that she is a good singer. "I'm quite surprised. Many Korean girls are beautiful, but when they start singing, wow, it's really bad to listen to," said the TV personality. Many then took to social media to slam Jacky, saying that he was being disrespectful and speaking out of turn. Some even alleged that an old school host like Jacky should just retire from the industry. In response to the criticism, Jacky said that he has been accustomed to this kind of targeted criticism and that "the truth will become clearer as time goes by." He added that people should ask Solar herself if she was slighted by his comment. "I was simply complimenting Solar for being beautiful and talented at singing. There's nothing wrong with that!" he added. Jacky then revealed that he had just performed with Solar at the 11th anniversary event of his show, adding, "We've always upheld the spirit of 'It's great to have friends come from afar' in warmly welcoming every friend from the entertainment industry, both from Taiwan and abroad." What the Tech: Fathers Day gift ideas vinyl

Even the most tech-savvy dads agree, sometimes old-school is just cooler. And for dads who love music, nothing says nostalgia quite like spinning a vinyl record. This Father's Day, if you're looking for a meaningful and memorable gift, vinyl might be the perfect choice. From entry-level turntables to vintage sound systems and classic albums, here's a guide to help you hit the right note. If Dad doesn't already have one, a turntable is the place to start. You can find solid options for around $100 at stores like Walmart or Target. Many of today's turntables come with modern features like Bluetooth connectivity, so he can play records and wirelessly stream the sound to any speaker in the house. Want to step it up a notch? Mid-range models from brands like House of Marley or Audio-Technica offer better sound, sleek designs, and higher-quality components. If you're buying a turntable to connect to a modern stereo or powered speakers, look for one with a built-in preamp. That will save you from needing additional equipment. If Dad is a true audiophile or had a setup back in the day, vintage gear might be the ultimate gift. Refurbished turntables and stereo receivers from the 1970s, including models from Sansui, Pioneer, and Technics, are in high demand because they sound excellent. The only downside is the cost. A full setup with vintage components and speakers can run into the thousands. But for a music lover who appreciates the sound and design of classic equipment, it might be the perfect gift. If Dad already owns a turntable, that makes your job even easier. Vinyl records are widely available. Original pressings from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s can be found online and in record shops. Most new artists now release their albums on vinyl as well, so whether he is into classic rock, jazz, soul, or modern indie music, there are plenty of options. Check out the website Discogs for tens of thousands of new and used vinyl records. Thanks to the return of vinyl, independent record shops are thriving. Browsing through racks and flipping through bargain bins is part of the fun, and it is a great way to spend time while shopping for something special. If you cannot find what you're looking for locally, online sellers are a great option. The WhatNot app features live record auctions where you can discover hidden gems. A seller called Collect Co streams live every night on Facebook and YouTube and ships directly to your door. The store purchases record collections nationwide and sells them during live streams.
