Andhra gets full fertiliser quota for Kharif
Director of Agriculture S Dilli Rao said that 16.76 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of fertilisers were allocated, of which 5.64 LMT had been delivered by the end of June. Distribution is ongoing through private and cooperative channels to ensure availability for farmers. Rao termed social media reports alleging supply cuts as baseless and urged farmers not to panic or fall for misinformation.
As of July 9, the State had 8.73 LMT of stock, including 3.07 LMT of urea, 0.86 LMT of DAP, 0.57 LMT of MOP, 0.59 LMT of SSP, and 3.63 LMT of complex fertilisers. These are available at Rythu Seva Kendras, MARKFED godowns, cooperative societies, and retail outlets. Rao promoted sustainable farming practices, encouraging the use of organic and bio-fertilisers, green manure, nano-fertilisers, and pulse-based cropping to enhance soil health and cut costs.

Helicopter crashes: SC asks Centre, DGCA to respond to plea
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Thursday sought responses from the Centre among others on a plea over a series of helicopter crashes, particularly in Uttarakhand's Kedarnath. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued notices to the Centre and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Uttarakhand government, among others, on the plea. 'The concern is over a series of helicopter crashes that have taken place, particularly towards Kedarnath," the petitioners' counsel said. The bench posted the matter after four weeks. On June 15, a helicopter carrying pilgrims from the Kedarnath shrine crashed in the forests of Gaurikund amid poor visibility, killing all seven people on board, the fifth helicopter accident on the Chardham Yatra route since the pilgrimage started on April 30. The seven casualties included a two-year-old child and the pilot, who were on board the helicopter, operated by a private firm. The civil aviation ministry said it has suspended the operations of the firm for the Char Dham Yatra and has directed the DGCA to immediately post officers from airworthiness, safety and operations to actively oversee all helicopter activity in the Kedarnath valley. On June 7, a helicopter going to Kedarnath had to make an emergency landing on the road due to a technical fault soon after take-off in which the pilot was injured but the five devotees on board were rescued safely. On May 12, a helicopter returning from Badrinath to Sersi with pilgrims on board had to make an emergency landing in a school playground in Ukhimath due to poor visibility. All pilgrims were safe. Similarly, on May 8, a helicopter going to Gangotri Dham crashed in Uttarkashi district in which six people were killed. NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday awarded the Vir Chakra to nine Indian Air Force fighter pilots who played a key role in Operation Sindoor , targeting terrorist headquarters and Pakistan's military assets. Vir Chakra is India's third-highest wartime gallantry award. The awa rdees include: Group Captain Ranjeet Singh Sidhu Group Captain Manish Arora Group Captain Animesh Patnim Group Captain Kunal Kalra Wing Commander Joy Chandra Squadron Leader Sarthak Kumar Squadron Leader Siddhant Singh Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik Flight Lieutenant Arshweer Singh Thakur During the operation, the Indian Air Force also brought down at least six Pakistani aircraft. In coordinated action, the Indian Army carried out targeted strikes, eliminating nine terrorist bases belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Air Force executed precision strikes on four sites inside Pakistan, while five other locations were hit in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Operation Sindoor was a tri-services mission jointly conducted by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, entirely from Indian soil.

Several Surat dog owners' refused pet licences as ‘neighbours object'
Chinmay Rao, a resident of an apartment in Vesu, a posh neighbourhood of Surat, has written a letter to the president and secretary of his residential society recently seeking a no-objection letter for keeping a pet dog in his flat, which is mandatory as per the new policy of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) for getting a licence to keep a pet. Rao has a nine-year-old Labrador and was among the 1000-odd pet owners issued notices by the SMC for getting a pet licence. With the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) not objecting to his pet, Rao is likely to get a pet licence soon. 'I have prepared all the documents including the photos, vaccination card, address proof, etc. and attached the letter to the SMC, and finally, my application is in process. Officials in the market department of the SMC have told me that my application has been accepted and I will get a pet licence in the next few days,' Rao told The Indian Express. According to the guidelines issued by the Surat Municipal Corporation in June for keeping pets, apartment residents should get NOCs from the president and secretary of the residential society and those living in a 'street or mohalla' should get signatures from 10 neighbours saying they have no issues with the pet. Along with their applications for pet licences, owners have to submit copies of their Aadhaar card, a clear picture of their pet, rabies vaccination certificate and copies of their property tax bill or rental agreement. The pet owners should also give a declaration on stamp paper stating that he/she would adhere to all rules for keeping a pet at home, such as not letting it run free without a leash in the society and will ensure no complaint is received from neighbours regarding any nuisance caused by the pet. In July, the SMC received 436 applications from dog owners for getting their pet registered, out of which licences were issued to 291 applicants. As per the rules, only one dog is permitted in a flat. Sunil Patel, who works in a diamond factory in Katargam, was not as lucky as Rao. He has a German Shepherd and a Pug, and his application for a pet licence was rejected as his neighbours have complained against his pets. 'These dogs were given to us by my friends who had shifted abroad three years ago. We keep the dogs inside our home. A few days ago, we received a notice from the Katgargam zone of the SMC, stating that the neighbours had complained about the dog. My neighbours have objected that the dog barks loudly at night. It is the tendency of the dogs – if they see some unknown persons, they will bark. We have submitted all the documents and applied for registration and licence. But we could not get signatures from our neighbours so our application was rejected'. Talking to the Indian Express, Surat Municipal Corporation market department Superintendent Digvijay Ram said, 'Everyday, we are getting the documents from dog owners with the necessary documents to get the pet dog registered. Six applications were rejected, and 136 are under process.' Dog Owners and Welfare Committee president Geetanjali Italia said, 'A few days ago, we made a representation to SMC Commissioner Shalini Agrawal and urged her to drop the clause on obtaining clearance from 10 neighbours and consent of the president and secretary of an apartment for getting the registration of dogs. There is no resolution yet, so we will meet her again'. Italia says, 'In our group, many of our members complained that it is difficult to get signatures from neighbours or the president and secretaries. The majority of the pet dog owners in the city have not applied for registration as they are unable to comply with this guideline'. Nayan Parmar, a dog trainer, also complains about the clause. 'I have several clients. They all take good care of their pets and get them vaccinated regularly. The SMC has to find a solution to this issue.'
