SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities in Spring Hill have arrested two men for their connection to an organized retail theft operation.
According to the Spring Hill Police Department, the men are being investigated for dozens of similar crimes across the nation.
The investigation began after undercover agents in Spring Hill's shopping district spotted a man, later identified as 30-year-old Pedro Gonzalez, walk into an Ulta store with a backpack.

After Gonzalez left the store with that same backpack bulging, detectives moved in and stopped the Mercedes he was traveling in.
Bodycam video obtained by News 2 shows the interaction between law enforcement and two men in the vehicle, neither of whom spoke English.
Police reported Gonzalez is a Cuban national who only has a passport. Meanwhile, the driver—identified as 35-year-old Yandy Ortiz— has a Florida driver's license, which was expired.
Surveillance footage from Ulta captured Gonzalez filling a backpack with merchandise. During the stop, police found that the backpack was filled with expensive products. A duffel bag was recovered from the trunk, which was also loaded with more merchandise.

'In this day and age we communicate,' said SHPD Lt. Mike Foster. 'There are databases out there.'
A background check revealed that Gonzalez is linked to 88 organized retail thefts across the nation, totaling more than $133,000 in stolen merchandise.
'We are definitely in the right place at the right time, but it is old school police work, being out there looking with your own eyes, watching for suspicious behavior,' added Foster. 'We can have all the technology in the world but oftentimes we forget it's simple, sitting in the parking lot one day can yield amazing results of criminal activity.'
Both men are being held in the Maury County Jail facing organized retail crime and felony theft charges.
Officials said at least one police agency in Maricopa, Arizona is seeking to extradite Gonzalez on similar charges.

The pair raided the home and fled with an unknown amount of cash and jewelry using the victim's own car, a silver Chrysler minivan, as the getaway vehicle. 'He seemed really rattled and like he did not know even what was going on. But he was definitely very nervous.' Two police cars responded to the house, which is across the street from PS 193 Alfred J. Kennedy Elementary School, within minutes, Nardone said. He told officers what little he knew. Kyle Mazza/NurPhoto/Shutterstock Nardone said he was nervous himself because he was starting his second day at a new job and didn't want to be late. The scene was so bizarre that at first he questioned what he was seeing. 'I was wondering if this was real, because that,' he said referring to the victim running out of a house, 'I've never seen something like that, like a guy come out of his house with duct tape all over his face.' Police are still searching for the suspects and said the incident remains under investigation. Investigators are looking for any video they can find to help identify the brazen gunman.

VIDEO: MNPD releases bodycam footage from deadly officer-involved shooting in downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department released a 911 call and dashboard footage from a deadly-officer involved shooting in downtown Nashville. In a video posted to social media, the MNPD released body camera footage as well as dashboard camera footage and the audio of a 911 call made before the shooting, which happened around 8:45 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Hermitage and Lea Avenues. ORIGINAL STORY | MNPD: Armed man killed by Metro officer in downtown Nashville In the 911 call, a person who described themselves as 'a big Second Amendment advocate' and 'friend of law enforcement' said he saw a man walking along the roadside with a gun in his hand, adding that he 'didn't look well.' The caller said they were on Driftwood Avenue. Following the 911 call, the video included footage from the dashboard camera of an MNPD patrol car. That footage showed the man walking along the side of Hermitage Avenue with a handgun in his left hand. The patrol car followed the man for several blocks. At one point, the patrol car stopped in a turn lane and the officer got out of the car and told the man to put down the handgun. The man did not stop walking and the patrol car continued to follow him until they arrived at the intersection of Hermitage and Lea Avenues. At that point, an officer can be heard outside the car repeatedly telling the man to drop the handgun. The man continued to walk down the street. As seen on video, the man turned around and ran toward the officer — Sergeant Robert Weaver. Weaver fired two shots and the man hit the ground. The MNPD also released Weaver's body camera footage, which showed Weaver get out of his vehicle and tell the man repeatedly to drop the gun. The man spoke in response to Weaver, but the exact words could not be made out on the footage. Once Weaver fired the shots, Weaver reported that shots were fired. ⏩ MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron said the man's fingerprints would be run through a database in an effort to identify him. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Davidson County District Attorney's Office has opened an investigation into the incident. Aaron added that by policy, the MNPD would also conduct a review of the interaction to 'ensure that it meets the high standards' of the department. No further details were immediately released. Man charged with murder following 2022 overdose death in Cheatham County

CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville man with a long criminal history is behind bars in Cheatham County in connection with a deadly overdose from more than two years ago. On Dec. 17, 2022, the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office received a call about an unresponsive man. Authorities said he had died from an overdose caused by methamphetamine cut with fentanyl. Detectives began collecting evidence and, over time, developed a suspect: Jerry Wayne Moore. However, finding enough evidence to charge Moore with murder would prove time-consuming More than 900 days later, on Thursday, June 5, the suspect was indicted on second-degree murder charges. According to Lt. Shannon Heflin with the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office, the Metro Nashville Police Department's Violent Crimes Division convinced Moore to surrender on what he believed was a failure to appear warrant. Body camera footage shows the 36-year-old after he arrived at the jail, where he learned he was in much bigger trouble. VIDEO: MNPD releases bodycam footage from deadly officer-involved shooting in downtown Nashville 'I don't get where it's from or who it's from. I don't know what I did,' Moore told deputies, adding that he doesn't even come to Cheatham County. 'Here it just says second-degree murder times two,' a deputy said. 'It don't tell me exact details on the warrant.' According to investigators, Moore supplied meth laced with fentanyl to the Cheatham County man who overdosed and died in December 2022. 'We did discover drugs on the scene that was hidden under a bathroom trash can,' Heflin said. The lieutenant reported the victim's girlfriend also overdosed from the same batch of drugs, but she was saved with Narcan and CPR. Authorities said the woman helped them turn up the investigative heat on Moore. According to Heflin, developing these cases typically takes a lot of time that includes forensics and lab analysis: 'Some of our most important evidence usually comes from pulling information off of cell phones or any other electronic devices.' Heflin said 2022 was the worst year for Cheatham County, which had 26 heroin and fentanyl fatalities, so law enforcement took an aggressive approach in trying to track down the dealers selling drugs to people that were resulting in deaths. The lieutenant said his investigators kept this case alive for almost three years for the victim's family: 'We also feel that we've got to get the family some closure, we've got to get them some answers, so it's important to us that we give them that closure and hold somebody accountable, and especially a drug dealer who's selling fentanyl because they know, these drug dealers know that what they're selling could potentially kill somebody.' News 2's Andy Cordan asked Heflin how the victim's family responded when they learned of the arrest. 'They were elated. They were happy. They thanked us for staying with the case. Hopefully we'll get their son some justice,' Heflin replied. Moore is being held in the Cheatham County Jail on an $80,000 bond, charged with second-degree murder. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
