‘Anyone could have been killed': Wanted teen leads Williamson County deputies on high-speed chase

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Deputies in Williamson County chased an 18-year-old wanted out of Georgia after he allegedly stalked and harassed a Spring Hill woman. According to officials, the incident began after the Spring Hill Police Department requested assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to find a young man, later identified as 18-year-old Baker Zahar of Atlanta, Georgia. Bodycam video obtained by News 2 shows the moments deputies chased Zahar along I-840 West on Friday, May 2 as he drove at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour in a Honda Civic. Suspected serial killer convicted of 1991 murder in Spring Hill At one point, video captured a deputy spike the vehicle's tires. Within minutes, the tires began to shred near the Goose Creek Bypass. Authorities reported that's when Zahar went off the roadway and crashed. As seen on video, Zahar got out of the vehicle and ran away as a deputy chased behind him. 'That is just insane, anyone could have been killed,' said WSCO Captain Becky Coyle. 'This is the kind of stuff we got to put a stop to.' A deputy reportedly tracked the 18-year-old to a wood line, where he was found hiding in a thorny thicket and claimed to have a bomb. When the deputy instructed Zahar to show his hands, the 18-year-old ran deeper into the darkness instead. Officials said the teen was found minutes later in a Goose Creek neighborhood. Zahar was then taken into custody at gunpoint. The 18-year-old allegedly told deputies that he lived in the area. While sitting in the back of the squad car, he then asked law enforcement why they were being so nice to him. ⏩ 'It's a clear example of how well Williamson County deputies work together,' added Coyle. 'If you are looking to do crime, don't come to Williamson County. Their training is excellent and they are going to find you.' Zahar was charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated stalking, evading arrest, theft of property, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and speeding. Booking records show he is being held in Williamson County Jail on a $750,000 bond. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 2 organized retail theft suspects arrested in Spring Hill

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities in Spring Hill have arrested two men for their connection to an organized retail theft operation. According to the Spring Hill Police Department, the men are being investigated for dozens of similar crimes across the nation. The investigation began after undercover agents in Spring Hill's shopping district spotted a man, later identified as 30-year-old Pedro Gonzalez, walk into an Ulta store with a backpack. Fugitive wanted in connection with drug trafficking operation arrested after months-long search After Gonzalez left the store with that same backpack bulging, detectives moved in and stopped the Mercedes he was traveling in. Bodycam video obtained by News 2 shows the interaction between law enforcement and two men in the vehicle, neither of whom spoke English. Police reported Gonzalez is a Cuban national who only has a passport. Meanwhile, the driver—identified as 35-year-old Yandy Ortiz— has a Florida driver's license, which was expired. Surveillance footage from Ulta captured Gonzalez filling a backpack with merchandise. During the stop, police found that the backpack was filled with expensive products. A duffel bag was recovered from the trunk, which was also loaded with more merchandise. VIDEO: Man trapped, rescued after hiding from Columbia authorities in storm drain 'In this day and age we communicate,' said SHPD Lt. Mike Foster. 'There are databases out there.' A background check revealed that Gonzalez is linked to 88 organized retail thefts across the nation, totaling more than $133,000 in stolen merchandise. 'We are definitely in the right place at the right time, but it is old school police work, being out there looking with your own eyes, watching for suspicious behavior,' added Foster. 'We can have all the technology in the world but oftentimes we forget it's simple, sitting in the parking lot one day can yield amazing results of criminal activity.' Both men are being held in the Maury County Jail facing organized retail crime and felony theft charges. Officials said at least one police agency in Maricopa, Arizona is seeking to extradite Gonzalez on similar charges. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 1 woman, 3 men arrested in Spring Hill following separate construction theft incidents

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — During the first few days of 2025, the Spring Hill Police Department (SHPD) dealt with multiple construction site thefts involving suspects accused of trying to steal roofing shingles. According to officials, the first incident took place on Jan. 7 at a warehouse along Cleburne Road. Officers were reportedly sent to the area to respond to a burglary alarm. However, when they arrived, they found a cut lock and a pair of bolt cutters. 2 arrested after Lebanon police find car, hundreds of mail pieces that had been stolen Inside, officers said they discovered a work van filled with construction shingles. Moments were tense as law enforcement searched the large structure, which reportedly had many hiding places. Minutes after their arrival, an officer spotted one of the alleged suspects with a thermal drone hiding in woods that were nearby. Police said the individual—later identified as a 25-year-old woman— surrendered without incident. Another suspect —identified as a 43-year-old man— was seen coming out of the woods minutes later as police were clearing the scene. The SHPD added he was covered with dirt, appeared disoriented and was taken into custody after a small struggle. The man and woman were both taken to the Maury County Jail to face numerous charges related to the warehouse break-in. SHPD Lt. Mike Foster said other jurisdictions may be interested in the duo. 'They just don't hit Spring Hill. Odds are they do this a lot and just got caught this time, which is why we work with other agencies to connect the dots and try to get them arrested and linked to other crimes,' Foster told News 2. Pizza delivery driver accused of headbutting officer during arrest Four days after the duo's arrest, the police department said they were called to another incident in the middle of snowstorm to chase down more suspected roofing thieves. According to officials, the second incident occurred in the area of Deep Creek Road after a security guard at a construction site called police. As seen on bodycam video, the security officer blocked in an older model Ford Ranger truck, which was loaded with stolen construction material. Police said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of roofing shingles and a loaded revolver on the front seat. Thanks to fresh tracks in the snow, officers quickly found 35-year-old Jose Ayala from Nashville. The 35-year-old allegedly told police that he thought the job of removing shingles was legit until his partner began acting odd. 'How many shingles did you load up?' an officer asked Ayala. 'He was throwing them over the roof. Once he saw the light, he jumped and started yelling, 'Get in the car!' And I was like, 'What?' And, he was like, 'Get in the car, get in the car.' So, I get in the car and I was like, 'Bro, I thought you said they knew what we was doing,' Ayala told the officer. 'He started acting like that, just flipping out, and that's when I knew for sure we were not there doing the right thing.' Not long after Ayala's arrest, police said they found the driver of the Ford —identified as 31-year-old Hector Palacios of Nashville. Although the crimes are separate, Foster told News 2 they have similarities. 'We don't know if they're connected. We don't know if the crews were communicating with each other, part of a bigger crew or just out there doing their own thing,' he said. Both Ayala and Palacios were taken into custody and taken to the Williamson County jail. Police added that the Ford Ranger was also reported as stolen. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
