One-half of the couple, who are located in the United Kingdom, explained the situation in an Aug. 17 Reddit post, and asked users on the platform — and specifically, a subreddit dedicated to wedding 'drama' — whether they are overreacting. The couple 'recently had a great wedding and a wonderful day where guests traveled from all over the world,' the newlywed wrote, adding that the ceremony was complete with a 'special,' custom-made cake inspired by their 'home culture.' (They did not specify what culture.) The celebratory confection — which weighed around 14 lbs. — was a centerpiece of the nuptials, but because of how busy things were, the couple 'never got to see it or taste it beyond just the initial photo op,' the user wrote. 'There was only one layer,' they later clarified, because 'it wasn't a traditional tiered cake.' 'We took a photo op but at that point people then all moved off to another room for the [after-diner] party," the user wrote. "That was the last we saw of our cake." But there were leftovers, so hope was not lost — or so they thought. 'When we got home the next day, and were planning to share it with our travelers from my hometown, we realised they gave us the wrong cake,' the user said, referring to their wedding venue. The unfortunate mix-up, they later learned, was due to a venue error. 'It took a few days to get a clear answer, but they told us they threw it out by mistake," the Reddit user revealed. 'Obviously,' they continued, 'we were devastated, but it was just human error.' That being said, the venue was making things 'very difficult,' and the newlyweds wanted an answer, or at least, they 'didn't want to just leave it at an 'apology,' ' the user wrote. 'Not only was it very expensive, but also meant a lot to us,' they said of the cake. 'Eventually,' after lots of 'back and forth,' the venue 'offered to reimburse half the price of the cake,' the user said. (They only offered 'half,' the user later clarified in a comment, 'because they served some slices, but it was only about 1/5 of the cake according to a family member.') But the couple was not exactly satisfied. 'Honestly, we were expecting a full refund at the very least,' they wrote, 'and [for] them to go beyond with some goodwill (not more money) since they really messed up and we paid them so much!'
