MIKEL ARTETA has joined the chorus of Arsenal fans who have been left astonished by the exploits of Max Dowman.
Dowman, 15, stole the show in a half hour cameo as the Gunners edged out Newcastle 3-2 in a friendly.

The teenager made a mockery of established Premier League defenders during the clash in Singapore as he won the penalty - scored by Martin Odegaard - which sealed the deal in Arsenal 's favour.
He didn't just pass the eye test either, with an impressive stat line including two out of three successful dribbles, two shots on target and being the most fouled player in the whole game hammering home his potential.
Speaking after the match, even Arsenal boss Arteta was unable to tone down his high-hopes for the prodigy.
He said: "Yeah, it is special. Obviously what he's done today against this team in the time that he had on the pitch is something certainly not common to witness for a 15-year-old.
"We are extremely happy to have him. I think again the environment that he's around in.
"His family, the people at the club and around the academy as well, super helpful because they put him into this position so early in his journey, having a real chance and a real presence when he plays for the first time."
Despite not turning 16 until December, Dowman will be eligible to star for the Emirates outfit's first team next season.
And Arsenal fans have high hopes for the youngster's upcoming season.

Talk TV host and Sun columnist Piers Morgan said on social media: "This kid is the real deal.. 15 years old and running rings round Newcastle's first team? Nuts.. and so exciting."
A second said: " Lionel Messi, I hope you enjoyed your time as the greatest footballer of all time because Max Dowman is here now."

A third added: "I don't think people realize how good Max Dowman is and what he could become. At 15, he looked like the best player on the pitch. This is a Lamine Yamal level of talent."
Another said: "Hale End producing a world beater in Max Dowman. Doing this against senior Newcastle players to win a penalty at 15?? Lost for words…"
A fifth said: "Can't lie Max Dowman might be the best 15 yr old English player I have seen. The kid is a joke."

Jorrel Hato, 19, is Dutch wonderkid that Chelsea are backing to be next Van Dijk rather than new Matthijs de Ligt

CHELSEA believe Jorrel Hato will be more like the next Virgil van Dijk than the new Matthijs De Ligt. When young Ajax star Hato replaced Van Dijk at half time in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Gibraltar in November 2023, he became - at just 17 years, eight months and 14 days - the second youngest player to represent the Netherlands since 1931. 6 6 6 The youngest remains De Ligt, another Ajax wonderkid who had a month less on the clock when he made his Dutch debut in 2017. But De Ligt has had tough times since his big-money switch from Juventus to Manchester United in 2024. And it is not only Chelsea who think Hato, now 19, is better equipped to match Liverpool captain Van Dijk's levels of performance and impact in the Premier League. He has made no secret of modelling his game from a young age on Van Dijk's, although he spent most of last season playing as a left-back rather than a centre-back. Even in the tradition of Ajax producing fabulous young players that goes back more than 50 years, Hato looks like something special. Only Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch and the legendary Clarence Seedorf made league debuts for the club at a younger age than Hato - all three were just 16. But while the other two were part of Ajax sides that ruled Europe or at least Holland, Hato has thrived in relative adversity. Seedorf was in the fabled team that won the Champions League in 1995 before going on to lift it again with Real Madrid and AC Milan. Gravenberch won three Dutch titles in four years under Erik ten Hag then moved to Bayern Munich. But Hato emerged at a time when Ajax were having their worst season for 35 years. Drake hints Cole Palmer is inspiration behind his new album name as he shares brilliant video of Chelsea star After being promoted to the first team and making his debut in 2022/23, he became a regular the following year when still only 17. In November of the campaign, he beat De Ligt's record to become Ajax's youngest ever captain and went on to play almost every minute of the season. The Amsterdam side's fifth-placed finish was their lowest since 1990, but Hato was a shining light. Last season Ajax suffered a different kind of heartbreak as they let slip a lead at the top of the table and ended a point behind PSV. But Hato was named the best young player in the Eredivisie. Liverpool's Dutch trio of Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Gravenberch all reacted to his post on social media celebrating the achievement. The Reds have been following Hato for some time, which makes it all the more surprising that they have allowed him to slip through their hands. Arsenal, too, were big fans. When Hato broke into the first team, Jurrien Timber was his mentor before leaving for the Gunners in the summer of 2023. Hato has Timber's versatility, as well as his calmness and ability on the ball. 6 6 But last summer Arsenal signed Riccardo Calafiori, another defender capable of playing at both left-back and left centre-back. With Liverpool and Arsenal prioritising attacking recruits this summer, Chelsea have swept in to sign one of the biggest young talents in European football. It will be a wrench for Hato to leave Ajax. His younger brother Elgyn is part of the academy and plays in the same under-14 team as Lennox Heitinga, son of Ajax boss Johnny. But he was adamant that he wanted to join Chelsea once the world champions made their move, asking to be left out of a friendly against Como as the saga unfolded. After his experience playing at left-back, Hato may find himself deputising for, or challenging Marc Cucurella in that role. But in the longer term, he is likely to be a more central figure, one that Chelsea hope will turn out to be their version of two-time Premier League winner Van Dijk. 6

Revealed: The urgent deadline when Eberechi Eze's £68m release clause 'expires' - as Crystal Palace hope to hang on to him amid Arsenal interest

Crystal Palace are set to receive a major boost in their bid to cling on to star man Eberechi Eze. That's because his £68million release clause reportedly expires on Friday, after which they will be able to charge whatever they see for for him. Arsenal are among the clubs interested in the England international, who has two years remaining on his contract. Chelsea, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 27-year-old forward, who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final in May. BBC Sport reports that his release clause expires two weeks before the start of the Premier League season, hence why it will be on Friday. The outlet claims that Arsenal value him below the £68m fee but that chairman Steve Parish may lower his valuation as the window goes on if he fears Eze could run his deal down into the final year. Mail Sport has reported how Arsenal are in contact with Eze's camp, but a deal will not just depend on palace's asking price. Arsenal will need to make significant sales to open up the funds for him. The Gunners have already signed Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Cristhian Mosquera for almost £200m in total. Players such as Reiss Nelson, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, and Albert Sambi Lokonga are all on the chopping block. Their position with regard to the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) is strong, driven by record revenues (£616m) and profits on player sales (£50m) for the year ending May 31, 2024. It is understood the Gunners could make a loss of at least £85m and still be safe from breaching PSR rules. However, one of the key focuses of the Kroenke family, Arsenal's owners, is sustainability and spending within their means. That doesn't mean they will not back Arteta, but they are keen to bring in money first having only recouped around £10m this summer with the sales of Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos.

Lottie Woad off the pace at Women's Open but second round too early for TV

It might even have been a relief to the organisers of this Women's Open that, as shadows lengthened, Lottie Woad did not blast her way towards the front of the queue. Woad may well be the name on everyone's lips but, on day two, she will barely feature on anybody's screens. Perhaps it is a sign of this major's rapid growth that everyone wants more. Nonetheless, fans will find it unsatisfactory that, with daily television coverage beginning at noon, Woad – plus Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko – will play the vast majority of her second round minus the eyeballs of anyone not in attendance at Royal Porthcawl. This is now a recurring theme after Leona Maguire took to social media to point out her hole in one at the recent Evian Championship was not caught on camera. Woad begins day two at 8.09am, with Ko for company and Korda two groups behind. Sky Sports, which screens the Women's Open in the UK, has a partnership with the R&A which it understandably will not compromise by criticising this tournament's officials. Insiders at the broadcaster insist they would be keen on extended live hours from next year. For that to happen, the R&A would need to bestow significant funds on European Tour Productions, which provides a world feed for television companies to use. At Porthcawl, that coverage begins at 12 o'clock. The R&A did increase the prize fund for 2025 by $250,000 (£190,000) and player facilities are a notable upgrade on the vast majority of women's golf events; but what of seeing it to be it? The men's Open coverage at Royal Portrush two weeks ago began at 6.30am on Thursday and Friday. In the toughest of Thursday's conditions Woad signed for a level-par 72. The highlight of the 21-year-old's day was a birdie putt from off the green at the 6th. Another birdie, at the last, ensured she sits five from the lead. 'It was OK, a bit mixed,' Woad said. 'It was one of those rounds that could definitely have got away from me so I am happy with the way I hung in there.' Mimi Rhodes has won three times on this year's Ladies European Tour, a matter that has been somewhat lost in fevered excitement over Woad. Rhodes served the latest notice of her ability with a 69 and can be added to the Friday morning blackout list. Ko's title defence began with a one-over-par 73. The New Zealander was harmed by a birdie-free back nine of 38. Korda's 70 felt notable. The world No 1 tied second in this event last year. Wales's Darcey Harry and the Australian Minjee Lee were among those to match Korda's score. Japanese golfers otherwise dominate the early leaderboard. Eri Okayama and Rio Takeda posted matching 67s to head the field. Miyu Yamashita is one adrift, with the three under group including Shiho Kuwaki, Mao Saigo and Chisato Iwai. Georgia Hall is minus one. The former champion has her fiance, Paul Dunne, on the bag. A decade ago, Dunne led the Open Championship at St Andrews before injury and loss of form took hold. 'That's more a question for him I think,' said Hall when asked if Dunne will return to competitive golf. 'Obviously right now he's not playing and he's just kind of supporting me, which I am very grateful for. He's a very good player. He doesn't give himself enough credit. Obviously I'm not complaining, I feel very lucky to have him with me.'
