SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Two Northwestern College athletes were selected as GPAC players of the week on Tuesday.
Senior pitcher Drew Dykstra was named the conference Pitcher of the Week following his lone pitching performance last weekend against Hastings.
The Urbandale native threw a complete-game shutout to take down Hastings 6-0. On the day, Dykstra only allowed two hits and collected six strikeouts.
And fellow Red Raider Kate Kralik was also selected as the GPAC Pitcher of the Week.
In the senior's three appearances last week, Kralik went 2-0 with two complete games and one run allowed. Kralik struck out 15 batters and punched out 9 in a complete-game shutout at the College of Saint Mary.
Kralik currently leads the GPAC with 15 wins, is second with 100 strikeouts, and is third with a 1.99 ERA.

'Consequence of injuries that left Glasgow very exposed'

Glasgow fans, we asked for your views after your side were comfortably dumped out of the URC last four by Leinster. Here's what some of you had to say: Robert: Having played most of the season to get into a play-off place, the drop off in form, Stormers aside, is a worry. Quality players leaving and uncertainty about Franco Smith himself doesn't fill supporters with a lot of optimism. The younger players have been great but can't be expected to produce on a regular basis against top internationals. Surely the ambition at Warriors is to build on last year's success? Season ticket sales will reflect any lack of ambition on part of the SRU. Advertisement Gus: Poor display tackling was awful. Hastings and Horne didn't gel. Can't see many of them playing for the Lions. Let themselves down. Graeme: When Leinster are on it they are very difficult for anyone to beat. Still a really good defence of the URC by the Warriors. Big decision for the SRU this summer is what to do about Franco, personally I would love to see him in charge of the national side. Keith: A lot of very good Glasgow players missing. However, that is not an excuse. Leinster were better on the day. Still proud of Glasgow despite the result. Hopey: Not a great day at the office, we lacked the puff up front to get parity and our main route forward, the kick to compete, was nullified by the Leinster back three. We kicked away the possession we had. Really disappointing and surprising we did not have another plan. Leinster won and Glasgow need to find another way to compete with them. I do not see a quick fix unless we address the lack of grunt up front. Parity is all we needed, then let the backs do their stuff. Just don't kick the ball away. Advertisement Andrew: This result for us was the consequence of a sequence of injuries that left the Warriors very exposed. I also felt once the rain came on we lost heart. This was a development much more to Leinster's liking than ours. Still, we could have made a better fist of it than we did, but on the plus side a number of our younger players have been baptised and that can't be bad.

International players tee off in crazy golf trophy

An estimated 250 players will compete in the individual World Crazy Golf Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The annual tournament, held at Hastings Adventure Golf in East Sussex, will see entrants from at least seven countries, including the USA and New Zealand, compete. Advertisement The winner receives £1,250 in prize money and a further £2,500 is distributed between players placed second to eighth. Simon Tompkins, director of Hastings Adventure Golf, said it was "a great source of local pride to host the championships". The individual event has additional junior and novice categories. The team competition took place on Friday. Competitors play six qualifying rounds - three on Saturday and three on Sunday - before the best-scoring 18 players compete in the final. Seven different players have won the trophy in the event's 22-year history, according to organisers. Four-time winner Marc Chapman is back to defend his 2024 title [BBC] Canterbury fencing instructor Marc Chapman is attempting to defend his crown after winning his fourth title in 2024. Advertisement The reigning champion said he was "hooked" after he entered the event for the first time, and returns every year. Chapman told the BBC he won his first title at his 10th attempt and "the rest, as they say, is history." Tom Loftus from Minnesota, USA, flew in to compete in the Hastings tournament [ROBIN GREY/BBC] US competitor Tom Loftus said he was "absolutely thrilled" to take on the "classic" fifth hole, which requires players to avoid a windmill's spinning blades to make their putt. He added: "It was so exciting to have that moment. I just love windmills." Rainey Statum, who travelled to the tournament from Texas, USA, told the BBC he faced a long journey to make it to the tournament, flying to London via Chicago. Advertisement He said: "Because I don't do trains down in Texas I kinda got lost and it took five hours for me to get here to Hastings through the train and subway system. "They misplaced my luggage too, so I was here a day and a half without my luggage." Follow BBC Sussex on Facebook, on X, and on Instagram.
