Irishwoman went through ‘absolute nightmare' after alleged rape in Amsterdam, court told
An Irishwoman in her 30s who was allegedly raped in Amsterdam says she remembers nothing of the incident, a public prosecutor told a pre-trial hearing for the case.
The suspect, who is an Italian national in his 20s, is accused of raping the woman on King's Day earlier this year.
The Dutch holiday, which is held annually on April 27, marks the birthday of the Netherlands' current king Willem-Alexander.
According to Dutch media, the hearing heard that after the woman was taken to the hospital following the incident, which occured at approximately 6.30pm in the evening, she was told that something sexual had happened to her.
She was then unable to recall anything about the incident and she did not recognise a photo of the suspect.

Today's News in 90 Seconds - July 17th
The case has garnered national attention in the Netherlands after several videos of the incident began circulating on social media.
Onlookers had filmed the encounter that occurred in broad daylight between two parked cars along the Keizersgracht canal.
In the days following the alleged rape, the mayor of Amsterdam asked the public to stop sharing the 'deeply humiliating' videos.
"What happened on King's Day can only be described as an absolute nightmare", the prosecution stated in the first introductory hearing ahead of the trial.
They stated that the alleged victim only reported the incident after she had been videos of it in Ireland and realised it was about her.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the woman was clear that she did not want to have sex and she 'had no complete control over her movements'.
The woman was heavily drunk and was heard telling the man to stop in the video footage of the incident.
It was said that the man and the woman did not know each other before the day in the question as they had met earlier that day.
Bystanders intervened in the incident and pulled the man away from the woman, with police then arriving soon after. The man was not initially arrested as it had been suggested by bystanders that the two knew each other.
The man initially told police that the two had sex and 'made love' but later stated he did not remember anything about the evening in question.
Defence lawyer Sophie Hof described the situation as 'complex' and passersby may have been observing due to seeing two people 'kissing and stroking'.
"This case is not black or white. He doesn't remember anything. He is ashamed, towards the victim, and how he could get so drunk,' she added.
The court was asked to lift the pre-trial detention of the man but the request was not granted on the basis that the man is a flight risk. The trial will begin in October.

Spanish tourist officials and local police have worked together to crack down on street violence and loutish behaviour. Many tourist sites have commented that this year's crackdown has led to a significant drop in the number of young tourists visiting the town. On August 9, the Daily Star newspaper reported: 'This decline in visitor figures to the Spanish destination stems from tough crackdowns on unruly holidaymakers. Home birth influencer arrested over death of baby ‘after leaving mum in labour for TWO DAYS without calling ambulance'
Coxon's arrest has sparked major outrage in Australia and Italy about the limits of giving health advice online. 'GURU' HORROR Home birth influencer arrested over death of baby 'after leaving mum in labour for TWO DAYS without calling ambulance' A MIDWIFE has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a baby who she helped deliver at a home birth. Cops said the death came eight days after the attempted home birth on October 2, 2024 after the Italian-born midwife allegedly ignored complications and requests to be taken to hospital. The mum eventually went to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital and delivered the baby by emergency cesarean - but the baby boy could not be saved and died over a week later. The influencer mid-wife had been building a social media presence by promoting herself as a guru and advocate of natural, at-home child-birth. A channel created by Coxon called 'Mamma Informata' pushes shocking information about blood tests and ultrasounds being unnecessary, gestational diabetes being non-existent, and that hospital visits increased the risk of infection In her videos and paid courses Coxon also encouraged women to give birth at home - even in high-risk cases, including breech deliveries and twins. She promised what she called "positive births" without epidurals or cesareans, urging women to resist doctors' advice even in emergencies. Following a police investigation into the incident, Coxon, who often called herself 'Bibi' online, was taken into custody in Wallsend, New South Wales, on 14th August. Coxon's charges were related to the death of a baby during prolonged home birth- resulting in manslaughter and reckless grievous bodily harm. Coxon, originally from Mantua in northern Italy, studied in Parma before moving to Australia. Her huge following of 40,000 followers are made up of many young moms attracted to her claims of pain-free, natural childbirth. She often slams mainstream medical advice claiming that paediatricians were just after money, gestational diabetes was a "myth", and that toxoplasmosis was not a risk in pregnancy. Coxon's arrest has sparked major outrage in Australia and Italy about the limits of giving health advice online. There has also been an uproar on social media about 'gurus' promoting fake medical misinformation to vulnerable women. Journalists - including Francesca Bubba, who has investigated Coxon's methods said: 'This is a tragedy that could have been prevented'. She also claims her teachings are dangerous and unscientific. Coxon was granted conditional bail after appearing in court last Thursday afternoon. Under strict conditions, she is no longer allowed to act, practice or educate anyone relating to any birth or pregnancy. She must also surrender her Italian and Australian passports and report to Nelson Bay Police Station daily. Coxon's trial is set to begin at Newcastle Crown Court on October 15, 2025. 5 Oyebola 'Bibi' Coxon poses with her two children before being charged with manslaughter Credit: Newsflash
