'Thank you Cincinnati': Longtime WCPO anchor announces departure from station

Yahoo5 days ago

After 10 years with WCPO 9 News, Cincinnati anchor Craig McKee announced his departure from the television station.
McKee has accepted a reporting position at Scripps-owned ABC affiliate KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona, returning to his wife's home state for the first time since 2002 to focus on family, he said in a Facebook post on May 29.
"This position will allow me to continue focusing on family, including our granddaughter in Arizona, while also continuing the work I love in journalism," McKee wrote.
The veteran anchor expressed his gratitude for the people of Cincinnati, stating that the city has given him more than he could have even imagined.
"Thank you Cincinnati, for allowing me to be part of your story." McKee wrote.
WCPO shared McKee's post on its own Facebook page, and said, "We love you, Craig. And we will miss you."
Mckee is now the fourth Cincinnati anchor/reporter leaving their station to pursue other opportunities this month, following in the footsteps of WCPO meteorologist Brandon Spinner, FOX19 meteorologist Frank Marzullo and Local 12 anchor Annie Brown.
This story will be updated.

Atlantic County Department of Public Works employee charged with official misconduct

The Brief One man is facing official misconduct charges and three others face a disorderly persons theft charge after officials say they stole Atlantic County-owned diesel fuel for a private business. Officials say the private business belonged to Joseph L. Ridley, 47, a supervisor within the Atlantic County Department of Public Works. MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Four men are facing charges after police say they stole Atlantic County-owned diesel fuel to fuel trucks for a private business. What we know On May 27, Atlantic County Fleet Management authorities noticed a large box truck being fueled at the county-owned fueling station in Northfield, NJ. As the staff approached, officials say the vehicle operators drove away. Thereafter, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Professional Standards and Accountability Unit started an investigation. Upon digging, officials determined a diesel bypass code used in the computer system had authorized the fueling. They discovered that Joseph L. Ridley, 47, had provided the code to employees of his business: Z5 Logistics LLC. Officials say Ridley is also supervisor in the Roads and Bridges Department within the Atlantic County Department of Public Works. On June 2, detectives arrested employees of Z5 Logistics LLC while they were fueling the business' trucks at the Atlantic County fuel site without authorization. Ridley, of Mays Landing, was charged with Second-Degree Official Misconduct, Second-Degree Pattern of Official Misconduct, Third-Degree Theft by Unlawfully Taking, and Third-Degree Conspiracy to Commit Theft. Zakar Ridley, 26, of Mays Landing, Jason Meredith, 34, of Absecon, and Corey Smith, 27, of Pleasantville, were all charged with Disorderly Persons Theft by Unlawful Taking. What we don't know This investigation is ongoing to determine the total amount of fuel stolen. The Source The information in this stor is from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

New 'Final Destination' film sparks misrepresented visuals

"Anyone knows this news? The ceiling of a movie theatre in the Philippines collapsed during the screening of the Final Destination 6 movie. That's really the ultimate experience," says an Indonesian-language Facebook post on May 26, 2025. It includes a two-minute clip of a crowd in distress as water starts to leak from a cinema's ceiling, with some parts starting to fall off. A similar post written in Burmese surfaced on the same day with an image showing the damaged interior of a movie house. "The ceiling collapsed while screening Final Destination," the caption reads. "Final Destination: Bloodlines", the latest instalment in the horror franchise, topped the North American box office following its release in mid-May (archived link). Similar claims about a theatre collapsing during the film's screening also surfaced on X, Instagram and TikTok and were shared in other languages, including Hindi, English, and Tagalog. While such an incident was reported in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires in May, the circulating visuals are unrelated (archived link). A reverse image search using keyframes found multiple news reports shared the clip in June 2015, including from ABC7 News (archived link). "Six people were reported hurt Monday night in Cebu, Philippines when parts of the ceiling of an Ayala Center Cebu cinema room collapsed after intense water leakage," part of the report reads, referring to a city in central Philippines. It goes to say that 350 people were in the room for a brand relaunch event. A similar clip of the event taken from another angle has appeared in reports from Philippine media organisations Sunstar and Rappler (archived here and here). Another reverse search of the photo showing the destroyed theatre found it in an NBC News article published February 28, 2025 -- months before the release of "Final Destination: Bloodlines" (archived link). "Movie theater ceiling collapses during screening of 'Captain America: Brave New World'," reads the report's headline. "The historic Liberty Theater in Wenatchee, Wash. Two people were in the theater during the incident, but no injuries were reported," says the caption to the picture. The photo is credited to Wenatchee Valley Fire Department, which uploaded an Instagram post about the same event on February 26, 2025 (archived here and here). "At approximately 8 PM, Wenatchee Valley firefighters responded to a reported ceiling collapse at Liberty Cinema. Two people were inside the theater at the time, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation," the post states. Months-old footage shows flooding in Florida, not Thailand after heavy rain

"Flooding around (Victory Monument) in Thailand at 3:15pm today. Myanmar citizens beware," reads the Burmese-language caption of a Facebook video shared on May 27, 2025. Superimposed Burmese-language text on the video -- which shows partially submerged houses and buildings in an area inundated with water -- reads, "Flooding in Thailand. Those who are close to the sea, please be careful". The video circulated online days after Thai media reported that a combination of heavy rain and slow water drainage had flooded parts of Bangkok (archived here and here). The footage was also shared in similar Burmese posts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. But the clip is old and was not filmed in Bangkok. A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the falsely shared video led to an identical clip published on Instagram on October 9, 2024 (archived link). Its caption reads: "Fort Myers Beach, halfway down Estero island @ 5:30pm on Oct 9. Milton was about double the flooding from Helene for FMB." Category 3 storm Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast on October 9, 2024, pounding communities still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Helene two weeks earlier. At least 16 people died as Milton sent tornadoes spinning across Florida and left millions of buildings without power (archived link). The video matches Google Street View imagery of Fort Myers Beach (archived link). AFP has previously debunked other misinformation related to flooding in Thailand here.
