After the Butter Fine Art Fair over Labor Day weekend, a host of local and visiting artists will perform at the Circle City's top venues.
Here are 10 can't-miss shows and festivals coming this fall.
Indy Jazz Fest
Sept. 9-20. Venues include The Jazz Kitchen, 5377 N. College Ave.; The Cabaret, 924 N. Pennsylvania St.; and Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park, 801 W. Washington St. Tickets at indyjazzfest.net
This year's festival boasts a legendary slate of headliners, including pianist Brian Culbertson, trumpeter Terence Blanchard and vocalist Nicole Henry.

Dance Kaleidoscope will perform 'Cloudline,' choreographer Robyn M. Williams' piece about transformation and inner strength. Her work has been performed at the Kennedy Center, Jacob's Pillow and other iconic venues.
The Revivalists

Heartland International Film Festival

The festival usually includes more than 300 film screenings, many of which are honored during the Academy Awards and other major national and international events.
'Ben-Hur 1925'
The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra will play the score by Carl Davis during the silent film screening to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the epic.

Known as the Godmother of Rock 'n' Roll, Sister Rosetta Tharpe influenced many musicians, including her vocalist protégée Marie Knight. This play chronicles the two women rehearsing for a historic musical collaboration.

The 2025 Minnesota State Fair starts Thursday. Here's your complete guide.
It's the eve of the Great Minnesota Get-Together, which will run for the next twelve days through Labor Day. Read on for everything you need to know about getting to the fair, what's new around the fairgrounds and how you can save some money while enjoying your favorite activities. There are plenty of different ways to get to the fair, and the good news is that the Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to pause construction on Interstate 94, with all lanes expected to reopen to traffic during the fair. On-site parking tends to fill up quickly. If you're planning on parking on city streets in Falcon Heights, it'll cost you $25 a day. If you want to avoid the parking rush, express buses will pick you up and drop you off at more than 10 locations around the metro. There are also more than 30 free park-and-ride lots within the cities. If you're located further out of the metro area, the State Fair Express Bus can get you to the fair for $5 on the Metro Transit app. Cash-only fares can be purchased at boarding locations for $6. Bikes and scooters are also welcome, state fair officials say. There are three free designated corrals for riders. There are also two designated drop-off and pickup sites for people who prefer rideshare options. Aug. 21 - Aug. 31: 7 a.m. - 9 1 (Labor Day): 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Ticket sales open online an hour before the fair opens and close an hour before the fair ends. Fairgoers looking for daily events can find them listed on the website here. You can also check out information on shopping, food and deals on the fair's official app. Visitors to the state fair might get sticker shock this year, especially when it comes to buying foods. The Blue Ribbon Book is filled with coupons for several vendors and rides around the fairgrounds. It costs $5 at the ticket booth. The fair is running promotions at the Midway, Kidway and Adventure Park all day on Aug. 21, 26, 27 and Sept. 1. There are also some early bird discounts on Aug. 22, 25, 28 and 29. Regular fair-time admission pricing is $20 for adults (13-64), $18 for seniors (65+) and $18 for kids (5-12). Kids under 4 years of age are always free. The first day of the fair, there is discounted admission at the entrance gates. It'll cost $18 for adults ages 13-64 and $15 for seniors ages 65 and older as well as kids ages 5 to 12. Monday, Aug. 25 and Thursday Aug. 28 are senior days, with discounted $15 tickets for visitors ages 65 and older. Tuesday, Aug. 26 is military appreciation day, with discounted $15 admission prices for active duty military and their spouses and kids. Retired military and their spouses as well as military veterans and their spouses will also see a $15 entrance fee. Kids days are on Aug. 27 and Sept. 1, with discounted admission prices for children ages 5 to 12 and all-day discounts at the Mighty Midway and Kidway rides and games. The new fair foods this year include chicken-fried bacon fries, dill pickle iced tea and an "uncrustaburger." The list is comprised of almost three dozen items and eight new vendors. WCCO will review the new fair foods, so check back to see what'll become a state fair classic, and what you can skip out on. Each day closes with at least one guest performing at the Grandstand. Artists this year include Old Dominion, Meghan Trainor, Melissa Etheridge, Def Leppard and Nelly. For information on prices and a full schedule, click here. This year, there are new rides at the Midway and Kidway and dozens of new vendors. There are also additional accessibility services that include ramps, audio descriptions and roving ASL interpreters. There are plenty of free activities at the fair, from roaming the agricultural building, to admiring the seed art and seeing the animals at the Miracle of Birth Center.

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort to host families for Labor Day weekend
Summer is nearing a close as Orange County students prepare to go back to school, but there is still some summer fun to be had this coming Labor Day weekend. Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort in Newport Beach invites families to end the season on the water before plunging into the back-to-school grind. From Aug. 29 through Sept.1, Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort will offer aquatic adventures, food trucks, live entertainment and more family-friendly activities for the long weekend. For more than 60 years the marina has hosted local families for fun in the sun at its waterfront RV resort with full-hookup RV sites and tent camping, rental cottages, pool complex, pirate-themed playground and a 442-slip marina. The holiday weekend is a chance to enjoy the Newport Dunes' Inflatable Aquatic Park before it closes for the season. The Aquatic Park will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 29 through Sept.1, complete with a 17-foot slide, monkey bars and other bouncers while kayaks, pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards and electric Duffy boats will be available for rent. On the shore, food trucks will be parked from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day with a full bar open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hungry swimmers can also order from the resort's walk-up beachfront bar and grill, Moe B's Munchies, which serves American classics like hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza along with cocktails and other beverages. Resort guests can bring their beach chairs, blankets or floats to the sand for 'Tunes at the Dunes,' a live music series in the evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Aug. 29 country rock band Kelly Boyz Band will serenade the night, while Family Style, a funk, soul and blues act is scheduled for Aug. 30. The series will close out with '80s tribute band, Flashback Heart Attack on Aug. 31. 'Movies on the Beach' screenings of family-friendly films are also planned to begin at dusk on Friday and Saturday. Lawn games and other activities will be available throughout the weekend, including family bingo, arts and crafts, Spikeball, horseshoes and cornhole tournaments. Those looking to say goodbye to summer in style can book a VIP experience with a private beachfront cabana. To book, visit 'Tunes at the Dunes' and 'Movies on the Beach' are free and open to the public. Food, water sports rentals and parking fees do apply.
