CJ Carr Gets Strong Warning After Winning Notre Dame QB Job

Ahead of the 2025 college football season, Notre Dame decided to name redshirt freshman CJ Carr their starting quarterback. However, On3's J.D. PicKell doesn't believe that the signal-caller battle in South Bend is over.
Following a closely contested battle, Carr claimed the starting job over sophomore Kenny Minchey. However, if Carr wants to have a stranglehold on the starting job, PicKell believes that Week 1 against the Miami Hurricanes will be the test, so the young quarterback faces pressure to perform coming out of the gate.

Photo by"Let's say that CJ Carr goes out against Miami and doesn't look that awesome—throws a couple of picks," PicKell said on the latest episode of "The Hard Count with J.D. PicKell." "Let's say this: let's say Notre Dame goes into Miami and loses that football game.
"This roster is far too talented to not be good enough at quarterback when it comes to what they're going to be the rest of 2025. This is a national-title-caliber roster. That's how they feel in South Bend."

Carr steps in for veteran quarterback Riley Leonard, who guided the Irish to last season's national championship game. As the young signal-caller takes over, a learning curve is expected.
Still, with a roster built to win immediately and a tough schedule ahead, Carr will feel pressure to start strong and limit any early struggles under center. A shaky performance against Miami could raise doubts and allow Minchey to step in.

"If you don't have it 110 percent right at quarterback, I don't think you're in a position, if you're Marcus Freeman and that staff in South Bend, to just sit on your hands and say, 'Let's see how this thing goes,'" PicKell added.
"I would not be shocked in the slightest if it takes the Miami game to solidify who your quarterback one is for Notre Dame... If CJ Carr doesn't stranglehold this QB1 job in Miami, I think this thing has still got some runway to it."

Abdou Toure, 5-star basketball recruit, trims list to 7
Abdou Toure, 5-star basketball recruit, trims list to 7 originally appeared on The Sporting News The class of 2026 prospects carry their recruitment quite differently depending on the sport. All but two five-star football recruits are already off the board, while only two five-star basketball recruits have announced their college futures. Notre Dame (Connecticut) five-star small forward Abdou Toure took a big step forward in joining the committed duo Wednesday, trimming his list to a top seven: Arkansas, Florida State, Louisville, Maryland, Oregon, Providence and UConn: Toure is rated the nation's No. 23 overall prospect, No. 9 small forward and No. 1 player in the state of Connecticut. What will the winning school be getting? Here's what 247Sports had to say about Toure as a prospect: "Toure is a powerful athlete on the wing who is an absolute wrecking ball going to the rim. He's dynamic in the open floor, has a good first-step in the half-court, and can bully his way through contact like few others in the class. He's a truly explosive leaper, who rises up with extreme quickness and power, and a violent finisher who can immediately change the momentum of a game with a single dunk." "While he can be physically dominant, his ball skills and overall feel for the game have shown consistent growth as well. He's gradually learning to pick his spots more efficiently as a driver, can rise-up into short pull-ups, and is starting to show a developing passing instinct. His three-ball, which is more of a set shot, remains more of a work in progress." "He is a good wing rebounder (6.6 per game), has all the physical tools to be a lockdown defender, and already has good playmaking metrics with 3 stocks per game (1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks)."
