Vizianagaram: Amid escalating tensions at India-Pakistan border, the Vizianagaram district police have intensified security measures across the region. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal said that in a coordinated operation involving police officers, staff, bomb and dog squads, surprise inspections were conducted on Friday in key areas of the district including coastal regions, railway stations, bus stands, hotels, and lodges.
As part of these operations, police inspected 91 lodges across 55 locations to identify suspicious individuals. The authorities checked fingerprints and verified identification documents of those staying in lodges and hotels, with special focus on detecting foreign nationals, who may have entered the district under dubious circumstances.
Jindal emphasised that the police were actively working to track down suspicious individuals and prevent any potential threats. The inspections extended to 14 railway stations and several bus terminals, where platforms, restrooms, passenger luggage, and parcels were thoroughly checked by bomb and dog squads.
During the extensive vehicle checks, police inspected 1,088 vehicles, seized 10 vehicles for violating legal norms, and issued e-challans for Motor Vehicle Act violations. To bolster surveillance in coastal villages, drones were deployed.
The district-wide inspections were supervised by DSPs M Srinivasa Rao, G Bhavya Reddy, S Raghavulu and others.

Speeding car drags man hanging on bonnet for over a kilometer at Kharadi bypass
In an incident of road rage, a speeding car hit a cab at Kharadi bypass chowk, then dragged the cab driver on its bonnet for about a kilometer, on Tuesday morning, police said. Police have arrested the car driver identified as Vishnu Prabhakar Sable (22), resident of Pimpri Sandas, in this case. Police constable Sachin Chavan, attached to the traffic control branch, lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Vimantal police station. As per the FIR, Chavan was on duty at the Viman Nagar junction on Tuesday. Around 10.30 am, while managing the traffic at the spot, he saw a man holding on to a bonnet of a speeding car going towards Pune from the Kharadi bypass on the Pune – Ahilyanagar highway. People watching the speeding car started shouting. Some people intercepted the car and stopped it. Chavan too rushed to the spot and nabbed the car driver identified as Vishnu Sabale. Meanwhile, the man who was hanging onto the bonnet got down safely. Police have identified him as Navnath Shantaram Kasar (40) of Kirti Nagar, Sangvi. As stated in the FIR, both Sabale and Kasar are private cab drivers. Kasar told the police that he dropped a passenger to Hinjewadi around 6 am in his cab. Then he dropped another passenger at Kharadi bypass on the Pune-Ahilyanagar highway. After leaving this passenger, he started driving towards Pune, when his cab was hit on the rear side by Sabale's car around 10.15 am. Kasar came out of his cab and tried to stop Sabale. However, as mentioned in the FIR, Sabale allegedly accelerated his car towards Kasar. Due to it Kasar fell on the bonnet of Sabale's car. Still, Sabale continued to drive even as Kasar was holding on to his car's bonnet. Sabale dragged Kasar in this position dangerously from Kharadi bypass chowk to the Viman Nagar junction, police said. Constable Chavan detained Sabale and brought him to the Vimantal police station for further action. Police booked Sabale under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (acts endangering life or personal safety) and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, the FIR stated.

Trump hails troop deployment as California readies legal battle
LOS ANGELES: US President Donald Trump said Thursday that Los Angeles was "safe and sound" for the past two nights, crediting his deployment of thousands of troops to quell anti-deportation protests, as California prepared for a legal showdown over his unprecedented move. With protests spreading across the United States, a night-time curfew has been in place in its second-largest city with authorities tackling vandalism and looting that scarred a few city blocks. "Our great National Guard, with a little help from the Marines, put the L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job," Trump said on Truth Social, adding that without the military the city "would be a crime scene like we haven't seen in years." The mostly peaceful protests ignited last week over an escalation in efforts to apprehend migrants in the country illegally, but there were also pockets of violence, including the burning of self-driving taxis and hurling stones at police. Trump deployed several thousand National Guard troops and 700 active-duty marines over the objections of Democratic California governor Gavin Newsom, the first such action by a US president in decades. Trump charged that the governor "had totally lost control of the situation." "He should be saying THANK YOU for saving his ass, instead of trying to justify his mistakes and incompetence," Trump added. In Spokane, in the northwest state of Washington, another night curfew was declared after police arrested more than 30 protesters and fired pepper balls to disperse crowds, officials said. In Seattle, Washington state's biggest city, police arrested eight people after a dumpster was set on fire and projectiles were thrown. Three people were arrested in Tucson, Arizona, following clashes with police, the Arizona Republic reported. Protests also took place in Las Vegas, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Chicago, Atlanta, and Boston, according to CNN.
