100 air quality monitors to be installed
Punjab Secretary for Environment Protection and Climate Change, Silwat Saeed, said during a media briefing that 60 air quality monitors have already been installed, and the remaining 40 will be in place by the end of the financial year.
"Our total target is 100 monitors, and the cost this year is estimated between Rs3 to Rs4 billion," she said.
She said, "Taking the number from 3 to 100 is a massive leap.
This wouldn't have been possible without extensive groundwork and strong support from international partners."
She announced that from next month, air quality data would be made accessible to the public via a live dashboard.
"Our air quality monitors are linked with IQAir, so people can get real-time data online," she said.
Highlighting technological upgrades, the secretary said the department has digitised industrial inspection systems using artificial intelligence.
"Previously, inspectors had to physically visit industrial units. Now, with AI integration, we can detect emissions remotely and identify violations in real time."
She said 15 fog cannons have been deployed in Lahore on a test basis.

CBD opens Rs12b tenders for IT City
The Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA), commonly known as CBD Punjab, has opened tenders worth Rs12 billion for the development of the Nawaz Sharif IT City (NSITC) - a landmark infrastructure initiative aimed at accelerating Punjab's digital economy. To fast-track the construction process, the project has been divided into three packages. Following the earlier evaluation of technical bids, the PCBDDA on Monday opened the financial proposals for all segments. Maaksons Construction Company submitted the lowest bid of Rs4 billion for Package One. Habib Construction Services offered the lowest bid of Rs3.6 billion for Package II, while Package Three saw a joint lowest bid of Rs3.9 billion from Habib Construction Services and IKAN Engineering Services. The authority has now started the financial evaluation process, after which contracts will be formally awarded to the successful bidders. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has described the NSITC as Pakistan's first project of its kind. She stated that the twin towers planned within the IT City, along with a "plug and play" call centre hub, are expected to be completed within the year. The hub is designed to offer IT education and employment opportunities to young people across the province.

According to Mughal Safeguard, a company involved in the project, the vehicle was created in one of their three branches, with Muhammad working in their branch on Sialkot Road, Civil Lines, at the request of a client. The design of the vehicle bears a striking resemblance to Tesla's Cybertruck, showcasing Muhammad's attention to detail and creative ingenuity. The company confirmed that the vehicle cost up to Rs3 million to build, and it has already been delivered to the client. A company spokesperson explained, "The client wanted a car similar to the Cybertruck, so they reached out to us. Our artisan, Wali Muhammad, built the car for Rs3 million." This type of custom work is common for the company, which regularly takes orders to build different types of vehicles based on client specifications. The local Cybertruck has since gone viral on social media platforms, with many internet users dubbing it the "Pakistani Tesla." Posts on social media have been flooded with reactions. One user, Saad Qaiser, wrote, "Pakistan's first locally made Cybertruck. Elon Musk, it's time to open a manufacturing plant in Pakistan. The government is working day and night." Another user, Khalid Mustafa, added, "Elon Musk, your Cybertruck prototype is roaming the streets of Pakistan. Your design has spread globally, and local engineers have given it a desi twist. Check out this masterpiece." Other posts joked about the creativity of Pakistani engineers, with one commenting, "There's nothing left that can't be turned into a Pakistani Alto." Another humorous post read, "Jugaad rocked, Elon Musk shocked. The Cybertruck is now available in Pakistan for just $1,000." The original Cybertruck, designed by tech billionaire Elon Musk's Tesla, is a stainless steel electric pickup truck known for its distinctive design, flexible suspension, and armored windows. It starts at a price of $80,000, making the local version a much more affordable alternative in comparison.
