PKAYS golf charity caps another successful fundraiser

KOTA KINABALU (June 3): A recent golf charity by Pertubuhan Jaringan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Sabah (PJKAYS) capped another successful fundraising event which is into its fifth series this year.
Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Dato' Sri Dr Hj Sabin Samintah, did the honours by teeing off the first ball to launch the tournament at Sutera Harbour Marina Golf Club here.
He was among some 80 golfers who decided to spend their Saturdays golfing and raising much-needed funds for PJKAYS' welfare and motivational programs for orphans and disadvantaged children.
PJKAYS President Datuk Eddie Abdullah in his remarks at the prize-giving ceremony thanked all the generous sponsors, donors and companies which bought flights to join this PJKAYS Golf Amal 2025 series.
Eddie also expressed his deep appreciation to relentless efforts of the PJKAYS Golf coordinators Kol Herman Bombang and Ir. Chan Ling Ket as well as the rest of the organising committee in making this year's event another one that all could be proud of despite the arduous challenges in the beginning.

Porsche not planning to shift final assembly of cars to US
BERLIN (Reuters) -Porsche has no plans to shift any part of its production process to the U.S., a spokesperson said on Friday, dismissing a Bloomberg report saying the company was considering such a move to mitigate the effects of tariffs. A spokesperson for the carmaker said no such plans were in place. Porsche's finance chief Jochen Breckner said in late April that localisation made no sense given its low vehicle sales, even if the group were to team up with another VW brand. Volkswagen's Audi brand plans to produce its best-selling models in the U.S. and will announce a location this year, although the brand has said that the plan pre-dates the Trump administration. Blume said last week that he had engaged in discussions with Washington to expand the Volkswagen Group's presence in the United States through "massive investments", but declined to provide details, citing confidentiality. Canada coach Jesse Marsch condemns U.S. treatment, ‘lack of respect' for Ukraine
Canada men's national team coach Jesse Marsch offered his support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian national team on Friday while also taking aim once again at United States President Donald Trump. 'As an American, the treatment that we have given the President of the Ukraine and the lack of respect really bothers me. Without having to know what it's like to go through something like what these players, this coach and this federation has been through, I am just really excited to be able to show our support,' Marsch said in his opening remarks at a Friday morning event with the Canada Ukraine Foundation. Advertisement Marsch is likely referencing a tense and fiery exchange between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Feb. 28 that made global headlines. Marsch has previously taken aim at Trump, saying in February that Trump should 'lay off the ridiculous rhetoric about Canada being the 51st state; as an American, I'm ashamed of the arrogance and disregard we've shown one of our historically oldest, strongest and most loyal allies.' Due to the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian national team is required to play its matches in neutral venues. 'If you think about the challenges that the players from Ukraine have been through, they haven't played a home match in several years, they've had to play World Cup qualifiers on foreign soil, they've had players playing professionally and internationally with the concern of the safety of their country and their family and their friends,' Marsch said. 'In general, the ability for us to have empathy and sympathy for everything that their team, their nation, their team, their players have gone through is really important at a time like this.' Ukraine's upcoming home matches in UEFA Group D of 2026 World Cup qualification do not yet have a location. 'As the Canadian national team coach, to show how much we are behind them, we are with them, that we want to do everything we can,' Marsch said, noting that one of the beauties of international football is that it 'can take on so much more than what the sport is.' Trump travel ban: Will Iran travel for 2026 FIFA World Cup?
USA, Canada, and Mexico are all set to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup together. However, President Donald Trump's latest travel ban has posed questions about whether certain qualified countries will now be allowed to travel to the US and take part. Starting Monday (June 9), citizens of 12 countries will no longer be allowed to get a US visa, according to a recent decision by Trump. Citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen have been banned by Trump and tighter restrictions have been applied to seven other nations (Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela). Trump explained his move by stating in a video, 'The recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country, by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas. We don't want them.' As of now, Iran is the only country from the list to have already qualified to compete in the FIFA World Cup next year. Cuba, Sudan, and Haiti are currently in contention to contest. Venezuela is five points off the threshold for automatic qualification but a playoff might just cut the deal. Sierra Leone can still be involved through multiple playoff games while Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, and Libya have very slim chances. Under the current policy, sports teams of qualifying countries should still be able to contest since such a provision have been provided for 'any athlete or member of an athletic team, including coaches, persons performing a necessary support role, and immediate relatives, traveling for the World Cup, Olympics, or other major sporting event as determined by the secretary of state.' However, this exception will only continue as long as there is no change to the current ban policy adopted by the US. Iranian fans hoping to catch their national team in the spotlight won't be so lucky however since the policy provides no such exceptions for fans of sporting teams. Getting an American visa had already been tough for Iranians even before the ban was implemented due to tougher vetting procedures. However, considering how those indulging in international travel for sporting events are usually from a higher wealth bracket, such individuals could still try to circumvent the process by using different passport options. The move has stirred a debate about the intersection of politics with global sport. Back in 2017, FIFA President Gianni Infantino had said, "Any team, including the supporters and officials of that team, who qualify for a World Cup need to have access to the country, otherwise there is no World Cup." Infantino has since developed close ties with Trump and has re-emphasized that sporting teams of all countries will face no barriers in coming to the US for participation next year. The event is expected to raise a majority of the soccer body's revenue in the 2023-2026 period. Questions have also been raised about the US' legitimacy to hold the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games with such strict travel policies against certain participating countries.
