Shoot at Site: KPY Bala's film set lit up with wedding celebrations

Time of India4 days ago
We stepped onto the set of KPY Bala's first film as a hero and catches all the revelry and work behind the shoot of a vibrant wedding number...
The cast and crew of KPY Bala's upcoming film — his first as the protagonist — Gandhi Kannadi, were in high spirits as they were filming a vibrant wedding sequence. Director Sherief of Ranam Aram Thavarel fame tells us, 'After making a thriller, I wanted to do a film that caters to all audiences.
At the time, Bala was looking for scripts, and I thought he would be an apt fit for my film. So, it all came together.'
The filmmaker is also proud of the film's cast. He shares, 'I'm proud that a director like Balaji Sakthivel sir and an actress like Archana amma, both of whom have won the National Award, came together for this film. Even though I did feel pressure while directing them, my belief in the film made me confident that I could pull it off.'
Gandhi Kannadi is an important film for me, as it's my debut. Acting has been a dream of mine, and I'm happy that I'm currently getting to do it. Apart from having emotions and a message, it's going to be a good feel-good movie
- KPY Bala
The characters played by Balaji Sakthivel sir and Archana ma'am motivated me to take up this film. Their characters will change the way you think about love and marriage. As for Bala, I find his commitment to be really special
- Namita Krishnamurthy
I'm happy to act alongside Bala. Archana is acting as my pair in the film. It feels nice to work with a National Award winner like her. The film's unit has planned the shoot well. The director has given me a big role, and I'm happy that he trusted me to do this part
- Balaji Sakthivel
The film showcases a beautiful love story between an elderly couple, played by Balaji Sakthivel and me. I'm very selective of the films that I sign, and with regard to Gandhi Kannadi, I loved the husband-wife relationship shown in the film. The title itself interested me
- Archana
The way director Sherief narrated the film to me felt genuine. The story (a love story of a 60+ couple) is the hero of this film and Vivek-Mervin's music is going to be its backbone. About 70-80 per cent of the film was shot in Chennai
