Storm squanders big lead, holds on to beat streaking Dream 80-78 and end 6-game skid
Nneka Ogwumike scored 15 points, Brittney Sykes added 13 and Dominique Malonga had 12 points and eight rebounds as the Storm (17-17) squandered a 15-point lead before snapping Atlanta's six-game win streak.
Rhyne Howard scored 21 points and Brionna Jones had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Atlanta (21-12).
The Storm led 60-45 with 3:25 left in the third quarter. Erica Wheeler, with a second left in the quarter, threw and inbounds pass to Diggins for a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Storm a 67-55 lead.
But Seattle went scoreless for nearly five minutes to open the fourth and Nia Coffey made a layup that gave Atlanta a 71-69 lead with 4:21 to play.
Howard, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter to break the Dream's career record for made 3s with 326. Tiffany Hayes (325) previously held the record.
The Dream, who went into the game averaging 9.6 made 3s per game, hit 2 of 13 from behind the arc.
Jordin Canada (hamstring) did not play for Atlanta.
Howard scored 25 points Wednesday to help the Dream beat the Storm 85-75 in Seattle.
The Storm concludes a three-game home stand Sunday against Phoenix. The Dream play at Golden State on Sunday.

WNBA star Kelsey Plum admits to ‘bad joke' with Caitlin Clark zinger at All-Star Game
Kelsey Plum won't be quitting her day job to become a comedian. The WNBA star admitted recently that she messed up when she attempted to jokingly zing Caitlin Clark and her 'Team Clark' members for missing a meeting to discuss wearing the viral 'Pay us what you owe us' shirts at the All-Star Game in July. 'Oh, I made a bad joke. I made a really bad joke,' Plum said with a laugh on 'Bird's Eye View' podcast. 'Tough one.' Plum made headlines during this year's All-Star festivities when she made a seemingly random dig at Clark and others. This year's game featured Team Clark, headlined by Clark, versus Team Collier, led by Napheesa Collier and featuring Plum. The discourse about her comments did not paint Plum in a favorable light, but she acknowledged it would have been tough for her to respond. 'You don't even get to respond, and if you do you seem defensive. That's why I didn't even say anything,' Plum said. 'So, you just have to let it go. Thick skin' Plum, 30, is averaging 20.3 points and 6.1 assists per game for the Sparks, who are in ninth place in the league with a 16-17 record.

Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum said she was joking when she took a verbal shot at Caitlin Clark and her team at the All-Star Game last month, comments that drew significant pushback. 'I made a really bad joke,' Plum said on Sue Bird's 'Bird's Eye View' podcast that dropped Friday. Plum said she was trying to have fun with Team Clark at the All-Star Game in Indianapolis on July 19 when she said Clark's side didn't show up for that morning meeting to discuss collective bargaining agreement talks. The union and the WNBA are in the midst of negotiations, and all the players in the All-Star Game wore T-shirts that read, 'Pay Us What You Owe Us,' including Clark. Plum said at the post-game news conference the players decided that morning to wear the shirts, but 'zero members of Team Clark were very present for that.' There was especially a big blowback on social media toward Plum, who said her intention was to bring levity to a serious topic but misread the room. 'I was making a joke they were hungover even though our team nickname was 'Hungover,'' Plum said. 'I was like, 'At least we made it.' Obviously, we were all on the same page. We all wore the shirts. We're all unified. I think if anything I was more discouraged because I felt like (the comments) took away from the moment of what we were trying to do.'
