Cairn leads with cutting-edge technology to elevate domestic oil & gas output

India Gazette15-06-2025
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of the Vedanta Group and India's largest private oil and gas exploration and production company, is ramping up the deployment of advanced technologies and enhanced oil recovery techniques to boost domestic crude production.
As part of its expansion strategy, the company is preparing to monetise its Shale reserves in Rajasthan and has launched the next phase of Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) injection, targeting up to 300 million barrels of recoverable oil from mature fields.
'In Rajasthan, Cairn is preparing to monetise its Shale blocks, drawing on U.S. experience and partnering with Parker Wellbore (now part of Nabors Industries) to deploy a high-performance rig equipped with advanced automation and real-time monitoring,' the company said.
Cairn is turning to sensors, seismic imaging, and generative AI to crack some of the country's toughest energy challenges, as per the company. It is deploying drone-based surveillance of digital twins and 4D seismic mapping to rejuvenate mature fields and tap unexplored reserves, as per the company.
National Stock Exchange-listed Cairn Oil & Gas accounts for over a quarter of India's domestic crude oil production and aims to increase this contribution to 50 per cent.
The company operates across India, holding interests in 62 blocks and producing from assets in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Assam.
Hitesh Vaid, Chief Financial Officer, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd, said that the company is actively strengthening its footprint across the country to bolster exploration and production.
'Over the next 3-5 years, we plan to invest approximately USD 3-4 billion. Our focus will be on expanding exploration in our offshore blocks, leveraging deepwater projects on the East Coast and shallow water campaigns on the West Coast,' Vaid said.
Additionally, the company will be scaling up operations in its existing fields with growth projects like ASP injection and the development of unconventional techniques like Tight Oil, and Shale in Rajasthan by leveraging advanced & digital technologies to improve efficiency and productivity, he added.
Describing the company's activity on adopting technologies in the exploration, Vaid further added, 'By adopting cutting-edge digital solutions - Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Augmented Learning (AL), and drone-based initiatives - through real-time data analytics, automation, and predictive maintenance systems, the company has successfully optimised its operations.'
DRISHTI is a one-stop solution for Cairn's data-driven reservoir and production management system, which is used to augment reservoir performance, as per the company.
According to the oil and gas major, implementation of predictive operational alarms has drastically reduced downtime of equipment, leading to a 25 per cent reduction in workflow development time, further accelerating delivery and maximising productivity.
'The implementation of Process Digital Twin technology has reduced gas flaring by 30 per cent and optimised fuel gas usage by 18 per cent, enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability,' Vaid said.
India has a total of 26 sedimentary basins, stretching to approximately 3.36 million square kilometres. Of this, 2.4 million square kilometres lie in onshore and shallow water, while 1.32 million square kilometres are in deeper offshore water. Notably, more than 70 per cent of the region is still unexplored.
Vaid said that unlocking the identified offshore hydrocarbon reserve holds the key to achieving India's vision for energy self-reliance.
'We are optimistic about the country's offshore potential and are focused on drilling on the East Coast in the Krishna Godavari basin,' he added.
In OALP Round IX, Cairn secured 7 new blocks, 4 onshore and 3 offshore, across Cambay, Saurashtra, and Mumbai basins. These blocks are in proximity to our Cambay operations and will help us strengthen our drilling campaign on the West Coast. (ANI)

Will Google sell its Chrome browser? AI start-up Perplexity offers Rs 2880000000000 to buy it

Will Google sell its Chrome browser? AI start-up Perplexity offers Rs 2880000000000 to buy it The world's most popular web browser, Google Chrome, might soon have a new owner. Perplexity, an AI-based search company, has made a surprise offer of USD 34.5 billion (around Rs. 2.88 lakh crore) to buy Chrome. The offer was sent directly to Alphabet, Google's parent company, without any prior talks. According to reports from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg , Perplexity made this move at a time when Google is under pressure in the US to break its monopoly. Last year, a federal judge ruled that Google holds an illegal monopoly in internet search. The US government is now considering forcing Google to sell the Chrome browser and license its search data to competitors. Judge Amit Mehta is expected to announce a final decision on these measures soon. What is Perplexity's plan? Perplexity, valued at USD 18 billion, says it has secured full financial backing from several major investment funds for this deal. The company's Chief Business Officer, Dmitry Shevelenko, confirmed that multiple large funds have agreed to finance the entire transaction. This isn't Perplexity's first bold mov, earlier, it had even proposed merging TikTok's US operations with its own. How Perplexity plans to change Chrome Perplexity is preparing to launch its own AI-powered browser called Comet . The company claims that if it buys Chrome, it won't make any 'hidden changes,' ensuring user trust and stability. It has also promised to invest USD 3 billion in Chrome and its open-source version, Chromium, over the next two years, while retaining most of the current Chrome team. Will Google agree with Perplexity plan? It's still unclear whether Google will accept the offer. For Google, Chrome is not just a browser, it's a crucial pillar of its search and advertising business. However, if pressure from US courts increases, the situation could change, turning this into one of the biggest surprises in tech industry history.

This points to a potential listing price of around Rs 520, implying a modest estimated gain of about 0.4% per share. However, it's important to remember that the Grey Market Premium (GMP) reflects sentiment and demand in an unofficial, unregulated market where shares trade before listing. Live Events BlueStone Jewellery IPO Subscription Status: As of 10:10 AM on Day 2, BlueStone Jewellery's IPO has achieved an overall subscription rate of 66% on the stock exchanges, reflecting a moderate level of investor interest so far. Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) have subscribed to 77% of their allotted 30.60 lakh shares. This indicates a cautious but noticeable participation from smaller investors, suggesting a measured confidence in the offering. Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs)—which include high-net-worth individuals and corporate investors—have subscribed to only 23% of the 45.90 lakh shares allocated to them. This shows a slower uptake from larger investors at this point. Meanwhile, the Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs), comprising mutual funds, insurance companies, and other institutional players, have demonstrated relatively stronger interest, subscribing to 85% of their 88.62 lakh share allocation. BlueStone Jewellery IPO – Key Highlights BlueStone Jewellery has announced its initial public offering (IPO) with a price band ranging from Rs 492 to Rs 517 per share. At the upper limit of this band, the company's valuation is estimated to be around Rs 7,823 crore. Ahead of the IPO launch, BlueStone secured Rs 693 crore from anchor investors. The company aims to raise up to Rs 1,541 crore through the IPO, which includes a fresh equity issue worth Rs 820 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 1.39 crore shares by existing shareholders. Key participants in the OFS include Accel India III (Mauritius), Saama Capital II, Kalaari Capital Partners, Iron Pillar funds, and Sunil Kant Munjal of Hero Enterprise. Investors can apply for a minimum of 29 shares and in multiples thereafter. The issue allocation is divided as 75% for Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs), 15% for Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs), and 10% for Retail Investors. BlueStone's shares will be listed on both the BSE and NSE, with the listing date set for August 19. Founded in Bengaluru, BlueStone is a digital-first, omni-channel jewellery retailer offering an extensive collection of diamond, gold, platinum, and studded jewellery. BlueStone Jewellery Financial Overview BlueStone has demonstrated robust revenue growth, with operating income rising at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 52%, from Rs 771 crore in FY23 to Rs 1,770 crore in FY25. However, it reported a net loss of Rs 222 crore in FY25, up from a Rs 14 crore loss in FY24, primarily due to increased marketing expenses and store expansion. Funds raised from the fresh issue will mainly support working capital requirements of Rs 750 crore, with the remainder allocated toward general corporate purposes. Axis Capital , IIFL Capital Services , and Kotak Mahindra Capital are the book-running lead managers for the IPO, while Kfin Technologies will serve as the registrar. SBI Securities Recommendation: SUBSCRIBE for the Long Term BlueStone has solidified its position as a leading omnichannel jewellery retailer in India, commanding a notable 28–32% share of the omnichannel casual jewellery market. Its strong focus on design innovation and superior product quality has helped maintain healthy gross margins. Additionally, the company's repeat revenue ratio rose to 44.6% in FY25 from 34.7% in FY23, indicating growing customer loyalty and satisfaction. At the upper price band of Rs 517 per share, BlueStone is valued at 4.5x EV/Sales, which is a premium compared to its publicly listed competitors. Nevertheless, its aggressive store expansion over the last two years, coupled with a proven track record of steady revenue growth, positions the company well to capitalise on the rapidly growing, high-margin lightweight jewellery segment. Also read: Apollo Healthtech targets listing by Jan-Mar 2027 As newer stores mature and their sales align with the system-wide average, profitability is expected to improve. Considering these factors, we advise investors to SUBSCRIBE to the IPO at the cut-off price with a long-term investment outlook, the brokerage said. Before Trump talks to Putin, Germany and others want to bend his ear

President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska, to discuss a path to ending the war that began when Russia invaded Ukraine 3 1/2 years ago. Before he does, his European allies would like to have a word. Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany will convene a Ukraine-themed video call Wednesday that is set to include Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and several of Trump's favorite European leaders, including Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni of Italy. Finance Value and Valuation Masterclass - Batch 4 By CA Himanshu Jain View Program Artificial Intelligence AI For Business Professionals Batch 2 By Ansh Mehra View Program Finance Value and Valuation Masterclass - Batch 3 By CA Himanshu Jain View Program Artificial Intelligence AI For Business Professionals By Vaibhav Sisinity View Program Finance Value and Valuation Masterclass - Batch 2 By CA Himanshu Jain View Program Finance Value and Valuation Masterclass Batch-1 By CA Himanshu Jain View Program A wide range of public statements from Merz and others suggest the leaders will implore Trump not to cut a peace deal with Putin behind the backs of Zelenskyy or his European allies. Zelenskyy has not been invited to Alaska. The European leaders will likely stress that any discussions of terms for ending the war must start with a full ceasefire. They also believe that Europe's approval is essential for any plans to enforce a truce with European troops. It will be the latest attempt by Merz and his European counterparts to head off Trump's unilateral impulses and to keep him from falling under Putin's sway -- though Merz and his allies almost never frame it that way. Live Events Instead, the center-right chancellor and fellow leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, regularly portray themselves as closely aligned with Trump on Ukraine, even as they publicly and privately encourage him to do more to support officials in Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. "We cannot accept that territorial issues between Russia and America are discussed or even decided over the heads of Europeans, over the heads of Ukrainians," Merz said in a television interview Sunday. "I assume that the American government sees it the same way. That is why there is this close coordination." Merz has staked much of his early term on rebuilding Germany's military and reclaiming its leadership position for Europe and the world, with a firm gaze toward Russia. He has courted Trump aggressively since taking office in early May, with text messages, phone calls, international summits and an Oval Office visit. He has relentlessly pitched Trump on the idea that by intervening boldly and decisively on the side of Ukraine against Russia, the United States could force Putin into a ceasefire and serious talks on ending the war. It has been the chancellor's primary request of the president, overwhelming other major issues, like Trump's push to impose new tariffs on Europe. Trump seemed receptive, to varying degrees, particularly as he grew frustrated in recent months with Putin's continued bombardments of Ukraine. He agreed to sell American weapons to Germany and others, to then be supplied to Kyiv, and he has threatened harsh economic penalties on Moscow if the war continues. But then, last week, after overtures from Putin, Trump shifted again. He hastily scheduled the Alaska meeting. This week, he told reporters he wanted to see what Putin had on his mind, and whether he could broker "a deal" on the war, including swaps of land currently held by Ukraine and Russia. Merz and his allies fear what that discussion could bring. So they have stacked the video call with top Europeans who enjoy good relations with Trump, including the leaders of Poland and Finland and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. European leaders refuse to entertain any talk of redrawing borders before Putin agrees to a ceasefire. They do not want to negotiate away Ukrainian land that Russian forces do not currently hold. German officials have been more publicly oblique on whether they could support a truce that cedes some parts of prewar Ukraine to Russia, though privately, they have sounded resigned to the possibility. They also worry that peace on bad terms could encourage Putin to continue his push toward Western Europe, perhaps sending troops next to a neighbor like Lithuania, a member of NATO. "It really is a concern that Putin might feel emboldened," said Anna Sauerbrey, the foreign editor for Germany's Die Zeit newspaper. "Not to go for Berlin, of course, but to cause some unrest in other Baltic countries, other European countries." Above all, Europeans fear that Putin could use the Alaska meeting to sell Trump on a peace deal that Zelenskyy would never accept, leading Trump to turn his ire on the Ukrainian leader. Trump could then threaten to pull crucial American intelligence support for Ukraine on the battlefield, as his administration briefly did this spring. Europe would continue to back Ukraine in that case, but its task would be far more difficult. Merz and other leaders have acknowledged the need for American support. Sauerbrey said that reality puts European leaders in a "very weak position" to negotiate with Trump. "They can hope and pray" and continue to flatter him, she said. "But that's pretty much all they have." This article originally appeared in The New York Times.
