Ohio State sharp shooter Mathieu Grujicic goes off for Germany in Eurobasket U18 Tourney
One of those new faces is incoming freshman Mathieu Grujicic from Germany. He's still working on some eligibility issues as an overseas player coming to the United Sates, but once he gets that all ironed out, he should be able to provide a scoring punch at multiple spots on the floor, much like what we've become accustomed to seeing with European players.
Before then, Grujicic is playing for his country in the U18 Eurobasket Tournament and looking extremely productive. It's not quite the same level of competition, but there's no denying the abilities and multiple ways he can score. In the opening game for Germany, Grujicic scored 23 points, pulled down eight rebounds, had two assists, and one steal. Germany ultimately lost its opening round game, but it wasn't because of Grujicic.
We have some highlights of his body of work in the game thanks to the Hoops HQ "X" account we think you'll enjoy.
Grujicic has flown a little under the radar when it comes to incoming freshmen in the Big Ten, but if he can be anywhere near what we've seen in some of his highlights, he could surprise the opposition and provide another scorer to go with what we already know the Buckeyes have with some of those returning guys.
We'll see if this skill set translates to the high level of big-time college basketball when things get going this winter.

Three Ohio State football players receive 2025 Big Ten Preseason Honors
The Big Ten Conference released the players included in its 2025 Preseason honors on Wednesday, and as usual, there are a number of Ohio State players included in the 16 names. The Buckeyes tied Penn State with the most players honored, with three each. The three players donning Scarlet and Gray for the 2025 season named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors list are safety Caleb Downs, receiver Jeremiah Smith, and linebacker Sonny Styles. Smith was the only player on the list of names selected unanimously by the media. Smith burst onto the scene last year as a freshman. He hauled in 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, putting together arguably the best season by a freshman wide receiver ever. Downs is widely considered the best defensive player in the country and should continue to be inserted all over the field to wreak havoc on the OSU defense once again. He tallied 81 tackles and two interceptions last season. Styles returns for his final season and is looking to build on a breakout year in which he finished with 100 tackles and six sacks. He should be even better this year. Here's the complete list of players receiving 2025 Big Ten Preseason Honors: 2025 Big Ten Preseason Honors Quarterback, Luke Altmyer (Illinois) Outside Linebacker, Gabe Jacas (Illinois) Defensive Lineman, Mikail Kamara (Indiana) Defensive Back, D'Angelo Ponds (Indiana) Offensive Tackle, Gennings Dunker (Iowa) Center, Logan Jones (Iowa) Defensive Back, Koi Perich (Minnesota) Outside Linebacker, Matayo Uiagalelei (Oregon) Defensive Back, Dillon Thieneman (Oregon) Safety, Caleb Downs, (Ohio State) Wide Receiver, Jeremiah Smith, (Ohio State) Linebacker, Sonny Styles, (Ohio State) Quarterback, Drew Allar, (Penn State) Defensive End, Dani Dennis-Sutton (Penn State) Running Back, Nicholas Singleton (Penn State) Contact/Follow us @BuckeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Ohio State news, notes and opinion. Popular Big Ten podcast releases wild record prediction for Spartans this season
Do you think Michigan State football will lose its season-opener to in-state foe Western Michigan? Do you think that's even possible to happen? Well, there's at least one popular Big Ten podcast host who believes it's going to happen. Jon "JR" Rhoades of The Big Ten Huddle released his complete record predictions for every school in the Big Ten this week, and his thoughts for the Spartans were quite surprising. If not, outright wild... Rhoades has the Spartans going 5-7 overall on the year, which in itself isn't jarring or surprising to see. Michigan State has a win total over/under of 5.5 at many sports books so a 5-7 record is certainly in the realm and a common pick for the Spartans this year. But what stood out as wild to me is the fact that he has Michigan State going 5-7 overall with a 4-5 mark in conference play. For those that don't have the Spartans' schedule memorized or handy, Michigan State will play Western Michigan, Boston College and Youngstown State at home in non-conference play. This would mean, that Rhoades is predicting the Spartans to drop two of those three games -- which I'm assuming would be to Western Michigan and Boston College to open the season 0-2. Michigan State is currently an 18.5-point favorite over the Broncos on FanDuel for some perspective of how the betting experts expect the season-opener to play out. Maybe Rhoades didn't look at the Michigan State schedule before putting out this prediction or maybe he's very high on the Broncos entering this season. I even suppose he could be leaning towards an even more massive upset with the Penguins of Youngstown State coming into Spartan Stadium and shocking the world as a FCS school beating a Big Ten squad. Whatever may be the reasoning for this record, I personally will be ready to fire up the Jonathan Smith hot seat chatter if Michigan State were to go 1-2 in non-conference play this season. That isn't even something I'm personally considering in play -- which maybe isn't fair to Western Michigan or Youngstown State. Hopefully, Rhoades is completely wrong with this prediction and we don't see a massive upset to start the season on August 29. If he's right, though, then we are in for a very, very long season...
