Fake bomb alarm at Palghar collector's office

Palghar, May 20 (PTI) The collector's office in Maharashtra's Palghar received a bomb threat email in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting the police to evacuate the premises, officials said.
District Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil, along with his senior officials, rushed to the spot and launched a search.
Teams with hand-held metal detectors were stationed at the collectorate, and as a precautionary measure, a QRT squad was requisitioned, Patil told reporters.
Chief of Disaster Management Cell Vivekanand Kadam said the premises was evacuated at 11 am, and a search is underway.
Patil said the threat message turned out to be fake as no suspicious object was found.
He said Palghar Police was taking the help of the Maharashtra cyber cell to detect the origin of the mail, and further steps are awaited. PTI COR ARU NSK

Gang of drug peddlers busted in Chennai
The Greater Chennai City Police has busted a major drug peddling gang consisting of a woman from Manipur and seized methamphetamine, a gun, bullets and mobile phones from them. To curb drug trafficking in Greater Chennai, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) was formed in August last year under the direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police, The ANIU collects intelligence on ganja and synthetic drugs in and around Chennai, develops informants, identifies drug offenders and synthetic drug networks. Following recent inputs received by the ANIU, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Manoj Kumar and another special team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Washermenpet, conducted an operation and nabbed six persons who were near the railway yard as they were moving in suspicious manner. On searching, police seized methamphetamine concealed with them. Police registered a case against them under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS)Act and arrested the six who have been identified as Mina alias Amina, 46 of Redhills, her nephew Abbas Ali, 30 of Tondiarpet, their associates namely- Mohammed Ali, 25 of Thiruvotriyur, Mohammed Azar, 26 of Chepauk, Riyas Khan, 26 of Melakottai, Ramanathapuram and Parvez Hussain, 26 of Selaiyur. Rs 35 lakh worth 700 grams of methamphetamine, one gun, 15 bullets, six mobile phones were seized from them. A senior police officer said, 'Our investigation revealed that the female suspect Mina is a native of Moreh town in Manipur and settled in Red Hills. She was running a roadside shop here. With the help of her son Aslam, she sourced the contraband in Moreh and smuggled it by train to the Chennai city. Further she supplied to her nephew Abbas Ali for distribution and supplying to others in Tambaram, Royapuram, Redhills and Triplicane. They sold the contraband for Rs 5000 per gram, said the officer. Further investigation is on to trace the origin of the gun that was seized from them. All six were remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the city police arrested seven persons for allegedly possessing and selling painkiller tablets illegally and seized 3,652 nitrazepam and tapedental tablets in Kilpauk, Koyambedu and Adambakkam. They procured the tablets from Mumbai and supplied them in the city, said police.

136 cyber criminals nabbed across Tamil Nadu in operation ‘Thiraineekku-II'
The Cyber Crime Wing of TN Police has arrested 136 cyber criminals across Tamil Nadu after conducting A special operation called Operation 'Thiraineekku- II.' In December last year, the Cyber Crime Wing earlier conducted 'Operation Thiraineekku-I' and arrested 76 cyber criminals across the state. The second phase of the operation officially began on June 2 and concluded in the early hours of June 4. The operation was planned and executed across all districts and cities of Tamil Nadu. This large-scale operation was based on accused profiling by scientific investigation of Cyber Crime Wing teams under close supervision of Superintendent of Police I. Shahnaz. The profiling was done based on complaints registered through National CRP Portal of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and also through bank fund trail linkages established by financial data analysis of cybercriminal networks. Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime Wing Sandeep Mittal said the special teams have arrested 136 cyber criminals across Tamil Nadu. These criminals are linked to 159 cases registered by the Cyber Crime Police Stations in Tamil Nadu. Bank mule agents were identified and six have been secured busting a gang which is behind 30-odd shell companies, with over 100 agents working for it. During the special operation, the Cyber Crime Wing has seized 125 mobile phones, 304 bank accounts, 88 cheque books, 107 ATM debit / credit cards, 35 desktops, etc. 'We are analysing digital evidence and interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover additional layers of the criminal operations throughout India. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend other members of the network, recover defrauded funds, and identify broader links to nationwide cybercrime activities,' said Mr. Mittal.

Arunachal steps up crackdown on illegal B'deshi immigrants
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh govt has launched a statewide crackdown to detect and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, an official said on Thursday. Acting on directives issued by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), the state has instructed all districts to immediately constitute district task forces (DTFs) to identify undocumented immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of Inner Line Permit (ILP) provisions. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including inspector generals and superintendents of police. "Statewide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ILP violations. A district task force will be immediately constituted in every district to carry out detection of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit regime," Mithi said. The MHA had last month issued a 30-day deadline for all states and Union Territories to verify the identity and documentation of individuals suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Those failing to produce valid documents would be liable for deportation, officials said. It also instructed states to invoke their statutory powers to detect, detain and deport illegal immigrants.
