Pune: The Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers has raised serious concerns over the ongoing online admission process for First Year Junior College (FYJC, Std XI) and has demanded that the admissions committee carry out admissions at the college level in upcoming rounds.
This year, the state govt implemented a centralised online admission system for FYJC across Maharashtra. However, the federation claimed that this led to widespread confusion, especially in rural areas, where students were still waiting for seats while many colleges had a large number of vacancies.
Even after the third merit list was released on Friday, several colleges received only a handful of names, far below expectations.

The federation stated that many colleges haven't filled even 50% of their intake capacity, and several are concerned about having to reduce the number of FYJC divisions.

Meanwhile, a total of 70,707 students confirmed their admission to first-year junior college (FYJC) in the third CAP round. As many as 1,11,235 students were allotted seats for FYJC during round III of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP). From the first to the third round, a total of 8,13,727 admissions were confirmed against the 14,29,234 students who applied.
Students can apply for round IV of the admission process online on July 28 and 29, until 6.30 pm. The allotted students can confirm their admissions on Aug 1 and 2. All junior colleges and higher secondary schools in the state must start classes for Std XI before Aug 11, 2025, stated an official notification from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

1 2 Guwahati: The forest department has provided financial compensation to villagers near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district for crop damage caused by stray animals. "Compensation of Rs 2,17,500 has been provided to 29 farmers of Mayong, adjoining to Pobitora wildlife sanctuary, for crop damage by wild animals straying away from the sanctuary's premises, for the period 2024-25," said Pranjal Baruah, forest ranger of Pobitora wildlife sanctuary. PTR tiger population rises to 80; up by 9 in 3 years
Pilibhit: The tiger population in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) has increased to around 80, up from 71 over the past three years, according to an internal survey conducted jointly by PTR and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). PTR divisional forest officer Manish Singh said on Saturday that this figure excludes 30 to 35% of tigers that live in fields around the reserve due to overcrowding in the reserve's core. According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority's (NTCA) 2022 national census, PTR had over 71 tigers, not counting cubs under one year. The internal estimation began in Nov 2024, dividing the reserve's 620sqkm core area into 316 grids of 2x2sqkm each. Each grid was equipped with two camera traps facing each other. Due to limited equipment, the survey was carried out in two phases, ending in March 2025. Singh said, "In the first phase, camera traps were installed in the Mala, Mahof, and Deuria forest ranges in Nov and removed in the last week of Jan. Trust offers scholarships for Yakshagana students
Mangaluru: With Yakshadhruva Yakshashikshana Scheme, an initiative of the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust, entering its third year, the latter has decided to offer scholarships to yakshagana students excelling in SSLC. Trust's founder-president Patla Satish Shetty told reporters here on Saturday that the trust has implemented a plan to recognise students who score more than 600 marks in the SSLC exam while practising Yakshagana. A student from Govt High School in Mullakadu, originally from north Karnataka, received Yakshagana training under the scheme. She excelled in performances and also scored 603 marks in the 2024-25 SSLC exam, bringing honour to both the school and the Yakshadhruva Yakshashikshana programme. The foundation will honour students who receive Yakshagana training for at least three years under this scheme and score more than 600 marks in SSLC exams with substantial incentives. The initiative will support students' learning and artistic skills, said Shetty. This year, around 6,000 students are receiving Yakshagana education in 90 schools — 58 in Dakshina Kannada, 14 in Udupi, 16 in Shivamogga, and two in Chikkamagaluru district. In the current academic year, 49 teachers are dedicated to conducting Yakshagana classes, with Badaguthittu style taught in 19 schools and the Thenkuthittu style in 71 schools.
