California gun control bill that could ban popular Glock pistol sales moves forward
Assembly Bill 1127, also referred to by many people as the Glock Ban Bill, was authored by Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) and would prohibit licensed firearms dealers from selling guns that can be 'easily converted by hand or with common household tools' into a machine gun. Although the Glock isn't specifically mentioned in the written legislation, it falls into that category of firearms.
New gun laws won't be enforced by Sutter County Sheriff's Office
'I am pleased to be presenting AB 1127, which will protect communities from mass shootings and gun violence by encouraging gun manufacturers to prevent the conversion of their firearms to dangerous automatic weapons,' Gabriel said during an Assembly Standing Committee hearing.
He continued, 'Automatic weapons are exceptionally lethal and capable of firing hundreds of rounds per minute. They are illegal in California. Unfortunately, some semi-automatic firearms feature a dangerous design flaw that allows them to be converted to fully automatic weapons through an attachment of a cheap and easy-to-use device, known as a switch.'
Northern California police warn of $1,000 fine per illegal firework amid Fourth of July holiday
The Glock is infamous for its easy-alteration capabilities by using a 'Glock switch'. In 2022, a converted Glock was reportedly used in a mass shooting that occurred just blocks from the California State Capitol Building. It left six people dead and several others injured.
'Sadly, certain companies in the gun industry have known about this issue for decades and have done nothing meaningful to address it,' Gabriel said. 'This common-sense legislation will ensure that the gun industry is held accountable and that we're doing everything we possibly can to protect our communities from mass shootings.'
AB 1127 is supported by organizations like Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and Voices for Progress. However, other groups such as the National Association for Gun Rights and Gun Owners of California Inc. are in opposition.
'AB 1127 is a blatant attack on your right to own one of the most common self-defense firearms in America,' Gun Owners of California said on social media before the bill passed through the Assembly. 'This bill targets semiautomatic pistols used by millions of law-abiding gun owners—and it's being pushed under the false pretense of 'safety'.'
NAGR vowed to fight back against the proposed legislation.
'California (is) pushing rapidly towards a total ban of Glock pistols,' NAGR said on social media. 'The most popular firearm in the country. If you think there is a line they will not cross, think again.'
AB 1127 passed on a vote of 58-17, with Democrat support and Republican opposition.

'We see you': Joint operation to combat recent gun violence nets 13 arrests
A joint operation between the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Lake Charles Police and Louisiana State Police to address the recent gun violence in the community has netted 13 arrests in the past few weeks — and Sheriff Stitch Guillory has a message for those who are in possession of stolen firearms and are bragging about it online: 'We see you.' Over a six-week period between June and August, six shootings were reported within the parish. Four resulted in fatalities. In June, LCPD responded to a fatal shooting in the 200 block of North 1st Avenue and CPSO investigated the death of a man whose body was discovered on the side of the road near the 6700 block of U.S. 90 riddled with gunshot wounds. In July, CPSO investigated a fatal shooting at the Lake Charles Event Center Seawall, a Fourth of July shooting in the 1100 block of Allen Street in DeQuincy, and a shooting in the parking lot of Cowboys Night Club. On Aug. 5, LCPD responded to a fatal shooting in the parking lot of the On The Rocks bar — which is across the street from the McNeese State University Legacy Center. Guillory said the joint operation was underway before the On The Rocks shooting. 'We're not being reactive, we are proactive,' he said. 'Getting guns off our street and targeting criminals in and around local bar establishments where we know we're having problems (led to the operation). We decided to get ahead of the curve, it just so happened that the homicide at On The Rocks happened afterward.' Police Chief Shawn Caldwell said the arrests range from a 'variety of gun charges, a variety of drug charges and some traffic charges, as well.' During the arrests, seven illegally possessed firearms, more than 400 grams of marijuana, 12 Xanax pills and nine pressed Fentanyl pills were recovered. 'We take this serious. We're going to go out there, we're going to identify these people and we're going to arrest them,' Caldwell said. 'When we're done with that, we're going to turn them over to the DA.' District Attorney Stephen Dwight said two prosecutors on his team have been assigned to the joint operation to lend support and answer questions on searches and seizures. 'This is what the community wants to see; this is what we want to see,' Dwight said. 'We're getting guns off our streets and drugs off our streets and we're prepared to take these cases and run them through the judicial system.' Guillory said among the firearms confiscated was an AR-15. 'There's no purpose for that,' he said. 'What are you going to do with an AR-15?' To those college students fearful of patronizing local bars after their classes because of the recent violence, the sheriff said there has been no problems inside any of the facilities. 'It's just been in the parking lots, after they're closed,' he said. 'The bars themselves are safe.' Local ordinances require area bars and nightclubs to close at 2 a.m. Special details have been set up at these locations to clear out the parking lots after hours. Guillory said the men and women behind the badge signed up for this career because they want to make a difference in their community 'We're going to do everything we can, we're going to use every tool we have at our disposal to make our community safe and to keep our community safe,' he said. 'To the criminals out there, you want to go on social media and you want to post your stuff, we see it, too. That's our message. When you have drugs and you have them combined with a firearm, that's enhanced charges. I can promise you we're going to work with our federal partners to try and send you away for a very long time.'

Gary man charged in West Side gun incident
A 21-year-old Gary man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly brought a 40-mm Glock handgun to the West Side Leadership Academy on Tuesday afternoon because he wanted to 'defend' a family member. De'Andre Hicks was charged Wednesday in Lake Superior Court with possession of a firearm on school property, a Level 6 felony. Around 3:30 p.m., a school security officer saw Hicks arguing with a student as school was being dismissed and the officer said she saw a gun in Hicks' pocket as he threatened to harm the student, according to the probable cause affidavit. The officer told the two males to stop arguing and called for assistance. Authorities said Hicks fled to his car, a tan sedan, where school security detained him and he was placed in a school security vehicle. Gary police found the firearm on the floorboard of Hicks' vehicle and took custody of Hicks from Cliff Caldwell, Gary Community School Corporation's director of security. En route to jail, Hicks acknowledged what he did was 'wrong' and 'stupid.' He said a family member had a previous altercation with a male student at West Side. Hicks is being held in Lake County Jail with bail set at $15,000.

Ivanka Trump re-enters DC ring for upcoming knockout UFC White House fight
Print Close By Emma Colton Published August 14, 2025 First daughter Ivanka Trump is helping facilitate the highly anticipated White House UFC fight as the Trump administration prepares to roll out patriotic events celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary of independence in 2026. "Ivanka is a longtime fan of UFC and is honored to help Dana White create an exciting event celebrating a sport beloved by so many Americans, as part of our country's 250th celebration," a source close to Ivanka Trump told Fox News Digital this week. The first daughter, who is a student of jiu-jitsu, will not take any official job or role for the event but is instead facilitating its planning, Fox News Digital has learned. President Donald Trump first announced in July a UFC fight would be held at the White House, as the nation prepared to celebrate Independence Day. DANA WHITE REITERATES THAT UFC WHITE HOUSE FIGHTS ARE 'ABSOLUTELY GOING TO HAPPEN' "Every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of 'America250,' and I even think we're going to have a UFC fight," Trump said in a speech at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on the eve of the Fourth of July . "Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White?" he continued. "We're going to have a UFC fight. We're going to have a UFC fight — think of this — on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there." Trump ally and UFC CEO Dana White declared in August that the fight at the White House is "absolutely going to happen," previewing that it would be held in honor of the 250th anniversary of America's independence, July 4, 2026. UFC'S DANA WHITE HINTS THAT RECENTLY RETIRED JON JONES, CONOR MCGREGOR COULD RETURN FOR WHITE HOUSE FIGHTS "Think about that, the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the UFC will be on the White House South Lawn live on CBS," White told the Associated Press Wednesday. "This is a one-of-one event," he added. TRUMP SAYS UFC FIGHT WILL TAKE PLACE ON WHITE HOUSE GROUNDS White promised "the baddest card of all time" during a recent podcast appearance, confirming that Jon Jones, who retired in June and celebrated a recent victory by dancing like Trump, had gone back into the drug-testing pool ahead of the 2026 fight. "Everybody wants to fight on this card. Literally everybody," White told the "Full Send Podcast" in July. TRUMP'S UFC 316 APPEARANCE DRAWS MASSIVE OVATION IN NEW JERSEY, FIGHTER CELEBRATES WITH HIM AFTER WIN White first previewed Ivanka Trump's involvement with planning the White House UFC fight, telling CBS in August that the president wanted his daughter involved. "When (Trump) called me and asked me to do it, he said, 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'" White told CBS Mornings Tuesday. "So, Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings."
