Russia starts direct commercial flights between Moscow and Pyongyang

Yahoo6 days ago
MOSCOW (AP) — Russia on Sunday opened a regular air link between Moscow and Pyogyang, a move reflecting increasingly close ties between the two countries.
The first flight operated by Russian carrier Nordwind took off from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport carrying over 400 passengers. Russia's Transport Ministry said there will be one flight a month to meet demand.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who visited North Korea's new Wonsan-Kalma beach resort earlier this month to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, promised to encourage Russian tourists to visit the complex.
The resort, which can accommodate nearly 20,000 people, is at the center of Kim's push to boost tourism to improve his country's troubled economy.
North Korea has been slowly easing the curbs imposed during the pandemic and reopening its borders in phases. But the country hasn't said if it would fully resume international tourism.
Regular flights between Russia's eastern port city of Vladivostok and Pyongyang reopened in 2023 following a break caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Russia and North Korea have sharply expanded military and other ties in recent years, with Pyongyang supplying weapons and troops to back Russia's military action in Ukraine.

5 ways that Trump's policies are impacting summer vacation

Some of America's favorite resort towns and beach getaways are a little quieter this summer, as President Donald Trump's trade wars and immigration crackdown appear to be dampening the travel boom that has defined the summers since the pandemic. On the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches, and in the Poconos, travelers are spending less. Las Vegas tourism is sputtering. And Niagara Falls hotels are emptier this year, according to business leaders and a Federal Reserve policy report.

Trump's Warm Embrace of India Turns Cold

WASHINGTON—In just a matter of months, President Trump has gone from praising India as a major strategic partner to saying he wouldn't care if its economy implodes. The Trump administration still values the U.S.-India partnership, officials say. But ties between Washington and New Delhi have steadily soured over disputes about trade, Russia and whether Trump deserves credit for brokering a cease-fire following a four-day conflict in May between India and its rival Pakistan.

Chalai Heritage Street Project Gains New Momentum with INR 60 Crore Proposal to Urban Challenge Fund

Once completed, the project aims to preserve the cultural significance of the Chalai market You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. After years of delay, the Chalai heritage street redevelopment project is finally inching forward, with Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) submitting a proposal to the Centre's newly launched Urban Challenge Fund for seed funding. According to officials, SCTL has sought approximately INR 60 crore to revive the long-pending project. The proposal marks a renewed effort to transform the historic Chalai market into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly heritage corridor. Preliminary discussions with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs have been completed, and if the funding is cleared, groundwork on the main stretch is expected to begin within three months. "The Chalai heritage project has been a long-standing vision for the city," said a senior SCTL official. "We are now at an advanced stage, and with active collaboration from the tourism and public works departments, we are hopeful of moving ahead as soon as central funding is approved. The initiative will rejuvenate the area, support local businesses, and attract tourism." Originally conceptualised in 2018, the Chalai redevelopment plan was inspired by Kozhikode's SM Street model. The project envisions modernising the historic marketplace with features such as tiled walkways, uniform heritage-style arches, underground utility ducts, LED streetlights, umbrella canopies, Wi-Fi access, heritage-themed graffiti, and landscaped seating areas—designed to enhance both aesthetic and functional appeal. Once completed, the project aims to preserve the cultural significance of the Chalai market while introducing infrastructure upgrades that encourage footfall and promote heritage tourism.
