Troy tennis shows marked improvement against tough competition
On Tuesday, April 15, Troy traveled to Missoula for the Valley Christian Invite, taking on perennial tennis powerhouses Valley Christian and Loyola Sacred Heart. While the Lady Trojans did not emerge with a team win, Sedler was quick to point out how far the program has come in just a couple of seasons.

"Last year we only won one match at this invite, and the year before that we were blown out in every contest," Sedler said. "This year, most of the matches were competitive, and I'm particularly pleased that many of our girls fought back after losing the first set — winning more games in the second or outright taking the set."
Against Valley Christian, Bella O'Day came close to pulling off a comeback at No. 4 singles, splitting sets with Olivia Hoffman 4-6, 6-4 before narrowly falling in a third-set tiebreak, 9-11. Troy also picked up a JV doubles win, with Salix Harris and Brookelyn Bowers taking down their No. 3 counterparts in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Facing Loyola Sacred Heart later that day, O'Day once again shined, defeating Samantha Curry 6-2, 6-2 in Troy's lone win in that matchup. Both top singles players — Shelby Cole and Miley Babcock — battled through long matches but eventually fell after exhausting three-set efforts in the heat.
"Our top two singles players really fought hard in their first matches — about two-hour affairs — and with it being the first 70-degree day for us, they were just spent by the second matchup," Sedler said.

The competition continued Friday, April 18, when Troy traveled to Superior to face Granite and Alberton in the Superior Invite.
In a packed day of play, Troy went 1-0 against Alberton, 0-2 against Granite, and split their matchups 3-3 against Superior — marking the program's strongest showing against the divisional rival in several seasons.
"Our number two doubles team has particularly improved," Sedler noted. "The continued success of the JV doubles team is exciting as well."
Troy's varsity wins against Superior came in both singles and doubles. Jolene Foutch fought off Camryn Church 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles, while Bella O'Day won a forfeit at No. 4 singles. On the doubles side, the No. 2 pairing of Christina Hammer and Abby Kreutzer cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory, and Harris and Bowers added another thrilling win, coming from behind to defeat Superior's No. 3 team 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.

The JV record further improved, with Troy's ad-hox doubles team of Sophia Simanovicki and Bella O'Day winning their match 2-6, 6-1, 10-8 — continuing a trend of depth and versatility for the Trojans.
"Bella is a singles player through and through, but Superior wanted to try out a new potential varsity doubles team in lieu of her singles' slot, so she changed gears and took the opportunity to practice her net play," Sedler said. "These girls just want to compete every chance they get."

Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu: Steelers training camp is over, but focus on OTs only intensifying
LATROBE, Pa. — Hours after a victory that featured few snaps for the handful of starters actually active for the game, Troy Fautanu spent the flight home from Jacksonville poring over the game film, dissecting every series he played. All two of them. Watching. Rewinding. Re-watching. 'I've watched those 15 plays like nine or 10 times already, just trying to figure out what I could do better,' said Fautanu, the Steelers' second-year right tackle. 'Obviously, the end result of most of the plays were good, but it's the little things that really can separate you — where I'm placing my hands, what I'm doing to help the guy next to me, communicating to the tight ends.' Advertisement In a similar way, the Steelers' young offensive line has been under the microscope this training camp — and will continue to be throughout the season. General manager Omar Khan has invested heavily in the trenches, beginning in 2023, his first draft as general manager, when he traded up to make left tackle Broderick Jones the first draft pick of a new era. The process continued in 2024 when Khan selected Fautanu 20th, with the goal of bookending the offensive line with high-level athletes. The return on investment has yet to come. Fautanu's rookie season was marred by injury — first, a partially torn MCL delayed his debut, then, a dislocated right kneecap and torn medial patellofemoral ligament ended his season in mid-September. Meanwhile, Jones endured a bit of a sophomore slump. After flashing his athleticism as a rookie, he allowed 11 sacks last season, tied for second-most in the league. 'That's a hard question to answer right now,' Jones said when asked to evaluate his first two seasons. 'Both of those years are behind me. I'm just trying to focus on the year that's coming up.' How much and how quickly the two young tackles develop will be one of the biggest factors that shapes how the Steelers' season unfolds. Through camp, both tackles experienced up-and-down moments. During Tuesday's practice, for example, star outside linebacker T.J. Watt bull rushed Fautanu into quarterback Aaron Rodgers. One of the two cleated the QB in the shin/ankle area. Trainers initially wrapped the QB in ice, but Rodgers didn't miss any team reps. It appeared that someone stepped on Aaron Rodgers during a team period. Hard to tell from here but looks like he scraped his right shin. Trainers applied ice and a wrap. — Mike DeFabo (@MikeDeFabo) August 12, 2025 Tomlin said the injury scare is 'nothing of significance.' However, the way the pass rush affected the quarterback might be. Later in practice, Watt again beat Fautanu and would have sacked Rodgers in a game. Under duress, Rodgers threw an interception to James Pierre. On the flip side, on at least one rep, Nick Herbig beat Jones with a speed rush and sent Rodgers scurrying. Advertisement Yet, when coach Mike Tomlin zoomed out and looked at the complete body of work following the final training camp practice on Tuesday, the coach said he's noticed growth. 'I think they've gotten better every day,' Tomlin said. 'Broderick got slowed by a little day-to-day (groin) injury there for a spell, but has really been on the uptick since his return. Same with Troy. I like the trajectory of the group. But even though we're leaving (Saint Vincent College), man, we still are very much in development. (We've) got a lot of time in front of us between now and the opener.' For each of the tackles, the ongoing developmental process is a bit different. In Jones, the Steelers knew they were getting an unfinished product when they drafted him, considering he started only 19 games at Georgia. Standing 6-foot-5 with 34 3/4-inch arms, he has the frame. And after running the fastest 40-yard dash (4.97) of any lineman at that year's NFL Scouting Combine, he showed the quick feet necessary to thrive on the left side. By drafting a tackle with so little experience — but also so much upside — the Steelers were making a bet on their coaching staff to turn a ball of clay into a legitimate top-end tackle. Initially, they cast Jones in a swing tackle role and played him overwhelmingly on the right side. With Fautanu back, Jones has finally been able to focus singularly on left tackle in camp. 'I don't think it was ever about being comfortable,' Jones said. 'Just the repetition, just getting back used to that side. That's all it really is for me, just continuing to get reps at the left side.' On his own, Jones lost about 20 pounds before training camp, which should help him regain the mobility that's a staple of his game. It also might show a sense of urgency for a player who is expected to be a difference-maker. Beyond the changes to his body, Jones needs to refine his approach to the game. Even during Jones' inconsistent sophomore season, he had standout reps on tape. The problem was that mental lapses or inconsistent effort led to uneven performances. Advertisement 'It's really never about the technique. It's always about the fight,' Jones said. 'That's all (offensive line coach Pat Meyer) ever wants to see. Finishing plays. Even if you're not doing the right thing, always just making sure you're getting hands on somebody and finishing, finishing around the pile, you know, little things like that.' Steelers offensive tackle Troy Fautanu working on the final day of camp — Mike DeFabo (@MikeDeFabo) August 12, 2025 On the other side of the offensive line, Fautanu has been trying to become more intentional with his footwork instead of just moving his feet 'just to move them.' But really, the biggest hurdle for him is a mental one. Coming back from a significant injury and a long rehab process, he's been trying to trust his anchor and his knee. Every step over the last couple weeks has checked a box: the first practice, the first padded practice and the first preseason game. 'Throughout all of camp, obviously, confidence is getting higher and higher every single day,' Fautanu said. 'I think the biggest thing was knowing that my knee was going to hold up, and it did (on Saturday). I think I'm pretty good now. I don't really worry about this (knee). I think Saturday was really like the biggest hump for me, and I got over it.' Fautanu extensively studied the starting Jaguars that he squared off against on Saturday. While he was critical of his hands-to-the-face penalty, overall he held up reasonably well in pass protection against two-time Pro Bowler Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, the former first overall pick who tallied 10.5 sacks last year. 'Obviously, those are starters,' Fautanu said. 'I was happy that they were playing, because really it was a test for myself, honestly, just to know that going into the season I can hold up against the best.' Building confidence in all areas is critical for Fautanu. He's a conscientious player and person who holds himself to a high standard, sometimes to a fault. Often in camp, Tomlin has praised the second-year tackle for what he's done well. Then, it's usually Fautanu himself who pinpoints the flaws. Finding the balance of addressing his miscues without letting it shake his faith will be an important part of his journey. 'I'm trying to be great,' Fautanu. 'I'm trying to be the best offensive tackle for this team and that ever played the game of football. That's my goal every single day. And as long as I keep striving high and continue the process that has got me here, I believe good things can come.' Advertisement Now comes the big question: How much can the Steelers count on their two young tackles to pave the way in the running game and keep their 41-year-old QB upright? While everyone wants the answer, the sample size is still too small to make bold declarations — and they know it. 'You really won't know until the first game rolls around and you get to see different people,' Jones said. 'Training camp's great and all, but you never know until the real test when Week 1 rolls around and you get to actually put it on tape.' Spot the pattern. 2025 Troy Football Predictions: Trojans Ranked 89th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136
College Football 2025 Troy Football Predictions: Trojans Ranked 89th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 9:45 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Troy lands in my Ultimate 136. Troy ranking: 89 Last year's ranking: 50 Top player: S Devin Lafayette: In five collegiate seasons, has totaled 175 total tackles, 4 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions; had 10 QB pressures as a hybrid safety/linebacker for Troy last season. [Troy's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: Quarterback Goose Crowder has at least one wideout I trust to make plays in former Georgia receiver Rara Thomas. Given a chance, there's a quality duo out there for Gerald Parker's Trojans. But after winning back-to-back Sun Belt titles in 2022 and 2023, Troy might be entering a lull after a portal raid that has left Parker with a bunch of talented but unproven transfers of his own. ADVERTISEMENT Here's hoping a tandem of former SEC safeties in Steven Sannieniola (Vanderbilt) and David Daniel-Sisavanh (Georgia) can help keep a lid on the end zone. [ Check out RJ Young's Ultimate 136 College Football Rankings here ] Troy Trojans Win Total Odds: Over 5.5 (-118) Under 5.5 (-104) Have an issue with my rankings? Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Brody Dalton
During the spring transfer portal window, there simply was not much action from the Alabama Crimson Tide. Not only did Alabama not lose anyone to the portal, but the Crimson Tide also added only two transfers during the window as well, both of which were tight ends. One of those two was Brody Dalton, a transfer addition from within the state of Alabama where he played previously at Troy, and brings a significant amount of collegiate experience to the Crimson Tide's tight end room. Let's take a look at everything you need to know about Alabama's newest tight end, Brody Dalton, entering the 2025 season. Brody Dalton player information Brody Dalton career stats Dalton will be entering his fifth season of college football in 2025, having previously played collegiately at both UAB and Troy from 2021-24. Over those four seasons, Dalton has hauled in a combined 24 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns, a majority of which came the last two years while at Troy. Brody Dalton 2024 stats Dalton is coming off a breakout 2024 campaign in which he posted multiple career-high's statistically at Troy. With the Trojans, Dalton had a career-high 15 receptions for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Brody Dalton recruiting ranking Coming out of high school, Dalton was considered as the nation's No. 2,275 overall player in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Committed to UAB, Dalton, a three-star prospect, was also rated the nation's No. 121 overall tight end, as well as the No. 100 player in the state of Alabama where he attended Fyffe High School. Prior to Alabama, Dalton was considered as the nation's No. 396 overall player in the transfer portal from this past offseason, according to 247Sports. Dalton, who committed to Alabama in April 2025, was also considered a three-star prospect, as well as the No. 19 overall tight end. Brody Dalton 2025 season outlook A position group that is loaded with options, it feels likely that Dalton plays a role for the Crimson Tide at some point in 2025. However, as to what that role is currently likely comes as an unknown, as both Josh Cuevas and Danny Lewis Jr. are at the moment expected to start, while others such as Kaleb Edwards are other options. Based on his experience though, it feels likely that Dalton will see time for the Crimson Tide this season, potentially coming in a notable role as both a pass catcher and blocker. Overall, expect Dalton to play a role in some form for the Crimson Tide this fall, providing depth and experience.
