Defensive Tackle Tiki Hola Commits To Notre Dame
Notre Dame has been recruiting Hola for about two years, with his first visit to campus coming in 2023 when he watched the Fighting Irish beat Wake Forest (45-7). In March of 2024, Hola was officially offered a scholarship by Notre Dame during its Pot of Gold push. A week later he made his second visit to campus, and since then Hola has made two more trips to campus as the Irish. Defensive line coach Al Washington established a strong rapport with Hola, selling his vision for how the Bastrop star fits in the Irish defense, and that played a major role in this decision.

The Texas defensive lineman is listed at 6-3 and between 270-285 pounds, but he checked in recently at 6-3 and 300 pounds. As a junior, Hola racked up 102 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two sacks, forced three fumbles and recovered two fumbles. He earned Defensive MVP honors after putting together that dominant season. Hola also earned first-team All-State honors at the 5A level. Landing Hola gives Notre Dame the kind of physical, stout, disruptive big man that could help improve the Irish run defense.
Hola is ranked as a Top 150 caliber prospect on the Irish Breakdown board, but he has a 4.5-star upside grade, which is that of a Top 50-75 prospect. ESPN and Rivals both rank Hola as a four-star recruit, with ESPN ranking him as the nation's No. 150 overall player and No. 12 defensive tackle.
Hola also had offers from Georgia, Texas, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), Tennessee, Nebraska, TCU, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Baylor, Boston College, Arizona and Houston.
Hola is the 15th player to commit to Notre Dame. He joins Florida quarterback Noah Grubbs, Texas running back Javian Osborne, Florida wide receiver Dylan Faison, Georgia wide receiver Bubba Frazier, Pennsylvania offensive lineman Tyler Merrill, Michigan offensive linemen Ben Nichols, Gregory Patrick and Sullivan Garvin, North Carolina ends Ebenezer Ewetade and Rodney Dunham, North Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., Ohio linebacker Jakobe Clapper, Florida cornerback Ayden Pouncey and Tennessee cornerback Chaston Smith.

York's Persimmon Homes to feature on Hemsworth Town FC's kit
A football club has received a £4,000 donation from a York-based housebuilder. Hemsworth Town FC was awarded the funding by Persimmon Homes, with the money set to provide new football kits for players at the West Yorkshire club. The donation came through Persimmon's Community Champions scheme, to which the club had applied. Sam Britton, commercial manager and coach at Hemsworth Town FC, said: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Persimmon Homes as a sponsor. "Their support will make a genuine difference to our club and the wider community. "Partnerships like this are crucial for the continued growth of grassroots football, and we're really excited about what the future holds. "To mark the partnership, Persimmon Homes will proudly feature on every one of our home shirts." Cardinals' Andre Pallante takes a no-hit bid into the 6th inning vs. Marlins
ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante didn't change his approach, even though he knew what was brewing as the innings rolled by without a hit by the Miami Marlins on Monday night. 'Just trying to execute the next pitch I'm throwing and trying to be better at doing my process in between innings,' Pallante said. 'You know, like when I come inside, cool down a little bit, hydrate, read my report, make sure I'm (ready) for the next competitor I'm facing.' Graham Pauley broke up Pallante's no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the sixth, and that was the only hit the 26-year-old allowed in seven innings as the Cardinals beat the Marlins 7-1. Pallante (6-7) retired the first 10 batters before walking Jesús Sánchez in the fourth. Pallante struck out four, walked one and threw 49 of his 81 pitches for strikes. Sánchez and Pauley were the only Marlins to reach base against him. 'I know, like their tendencies, you know, you have the scouting reports, you know what they like to do,' Pallante said. 'I just knew that if I commit and execute the pitch I'm throwing, I'll get good results.' The five-plus innings matched Pallante's longest hitless start to a game, the other coming against Cleveland on Sept. 22, 2024. It was the longest hitless start by a Cardinals starter since Erick Fedde went six innings at Pittsburgh on April 9. 'He did a really nice job with just quick outs,' Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said. 'He was very efficient. Also got some very defensive swings, a lot of soft contact. To be able to go seven, I feel like he navigated that lineup extremely well.' The effort matched a one hit, seven-inning shutout performance at Pittsburgh on July 1, in which Pallante took a no-decision in a 1-0 loss. Pallante had gone 0-3 with a 9.76 ERA in his three starts since then, giving up eight or more hits each time. 'Had some hard-hit balls at guys, you know, like, that's just part of the kind of evening out over what feels like the past couple weeks,' Pallante said. 'But like, just stay on the attack, command the inside part of the plate.' Alec Burleson and Masyn Winn provided all the offense Pallante needed. Burleson homered and drove in two and Winn broke it open with a bases loaded double to highlight a five-run seventh. Pallante admitted there was a nervous moment on a flyout to Iván Herrera in the second. Herrera, who played the outfield for the first time as a professional after spending the majority of the season as the Cardinals' designated hitter, made the play on his only chance of the game. 'He kind of scared me a little bit,' Pallante said. 'He ran straight to the fence. I'm like, 'Oh, man, is that like, 30 rows deep?' But then he came in on it, so I'm like, Oh, thank goodness. Rays trade catcher Danny Jansen to his hometown Brewers for minor league infielder
NEW YORK (AP) — Veteran catcher Danny Jansen was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to his hometown Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night for minor league infielder Jadher Areinamo. Jansen was in Tampa Bay's original lineup against the New York Yankees but was pulled about 45 minutes before the first pitch. The trade was announced shortly after the Rays ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win at Yankee Stadium. Jansen said he found out about the deal after meeting with manager Kevin Cash and president of baseball operations Erik Neander. 'I was getting ready to play the game, and I understand that side of baseball,' Jansen said. 'Just grateful for the time spent here with the guys.' The Rays signed Jansen to an $8.5 million, one-year contract on Dec. 13. He batted .204 with 11 homers and 29 RBIs in 73 games for the Rays. Jansen grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin. He is joining the NL Central leaders to serve as a backup to William Conteras, who is playing through a fractured finger. Conteras is hitting .245 with six homers and 42 RBIs in 100 games. 'I don't live too far,' Jansen said. 'That's going to be something that my wife and I had never experienced.' Jansen was moved right around the MLB trade deadline for the second straight season. Toronto dealt him to Boston on July 24, 2024, and he wound up playing for both teams in a game at Fenway Park that got suspended June 26 and resumed two months later. 'Having gone through a trade last year will probably make this process a little bit easier for me going into a team as a catcher learning pitchers and all that,' Jansen said. 'So, looking forward to the challenge and task at hand with that. I think having a little bit of experience helps.' Areinamo batted .297 with 11 homers and 51 RBIs in 94 games for Class A Wisconsin of the Midwest League and has appeared at third base, shortstop and second base. Last season, he hit .301 in 110 games for Wisconsin. The Rays are 8-18 in their last 26 games following a 25-9 stretch from May 20 to June 26.
