KLCC street photographers fined RM2,000 each
Authorities said the photographers were operating without valid permits in a public space.
The action was taken following growing complaints and a recent misunderstanding involving some of the individuals, which went viral on social media, Harian Metro reported.
The operation, involving personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Immigration Department (JIM), and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), saw nearly 30 individuals compounded under By-law 3(1) of the Federal Territory Hawkers Licensing By-Laws 2016.
These freelance photographers are known for offering smartphone photography services at busy tourist spots, particularly around the KLCC area, often taking pictures of visitors with the Petronas Twin Towers and other landmarks in the background.
One of the photographers, who declined to be named, said this was the first time they had received a fine for offering such services.
"The notice says RM2,000. That's a lot. If this keeps happening, I'll have to find another job," he said, adding that enforcement officers had mentioned the possibility of a future permit system.
He also addressed the recent viral incident, saying it stemmed from a language barrier between a photographer and a foreign tourist.
"I wasn't there, but from what I heard, it was just a misunderstanding. Now, we're all affected by it," he said.
Despite some resistance during the operation, officers were able to manage the situation professionally, and no serious incidents were reported.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration Director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff was present during the operation.
Authorities are reportedly looking into formal licensing mechanisms to regulate freelance photography services in public areas.

Justice Evawani Farisyta Mohammad said the defence failed to raise any reasonable doubt on the murder charge. Evawani said Ramlan had a history of physically abusing the victim by forcing her to eat food mixed with chilli, and was also the last person seen with her. 'While forensic pathologists could not determine the victim's cause of death because only her skull and two teeth were found, the circumstantial evidence produced before the court are solid and clearly show that the accused was the last person with the victim before she was found dead. 'The court is also satisfied that the victim had been beaten and abused by the accused over a prolonged period of time. 'The accused also showed no humanity in him by being willing to dispose of the dead child's body in a forest area at Gunung Raya,' she said. The victim's mother, the 24th prosecution witness, had left the child under Ramlan's care for two months while she commuted between her home and her job at an eatery. She filed a police report in February 2019 when she could not find her daughter when she visited the home of the accused. The accused claimed he had put the victim under another person's care, but refused to disclose who or where the child was at. While being questioned by police, Ramlan directed them towards a forest area at Gunung Raya, where the child's skull and two teeth were found. Ramlan's wife, a nurse, had testified that she heard the cries of a child on the night of Feb 23, 2019, though this had stopped not long after. When she entered a room at their home, she found the child in the nude and lying stiff on a mat. She also noticed that there were cigarette burns on the victim's thigh and bruises on both legs. She said the victim seemed lifeless, and when she asked her husband what happened, he claimed the child had experienced a seizure.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at his workplace, and the mother was out of the house sending her second child to the babysitters. "The victim is believed to have fallen out of a window of his home on the eighth floor," said Supt Kamalariffin. He added that police received a distress call reporting the incident from a woman at 8am. According to Supt Kamalariffin, the victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for emergency treatment and pronounced dead during treatment. He said the post-mortem results indicated that the victim had suffered head injuries as a result of falling from a height. He also added that police opened an investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which comes with a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine not exceeding RM50,000. "The police are urging members of the public, with other information pertaining to this incident, to go to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang police at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations," he said.

Boy, 4, dies after fall from 8th floor flat
KUALA LUMPUR: A 4-year-old boy who fell from the 8th floor of the Sri Perantau Flats in Port Klang this morning has died from injuries sustained in the fall. South Klang deputy police chief Superintendent Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah, who confirmed the death, said police received a call around 8am from a member of the public reporting that a child had fallen from a building in the area. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at work, while the mother had stepped out to send their second child to the babysitter. "It is believed the victim fell from the window of their 8th floor flat," he said in a statement today. Kamal Ariffin added that the victim was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead during treatment at 9am. "A post-mortem revealed that the child sustained head injuries consistent with a fall from height. "The South Klang police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000. "We ask anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang Police Headquarters at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation," the statement read. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing chaos at the scene as residents gathered around the area. In the footage, a man can be heard sharing brief details about what had happened.
