Bihar shocker: Man dies trying to save buffaloes from Vande Bharat Express; all three hit, body flung several metres away
PATNA: A 50-year-old man died in an attempt to save two buffaloes from being struck by the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express near Sheikhpura on Monday.
The incident occurred around 11am on the Nawada-Kiul section under the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) when Gopal Yadav rushed onto the tracks to rescue the animals.
Despite his efforts, all three were hit by the semi high-speed train.
The force of the collision was so intense that the man's body and the buffalo carcasses were flung several metres and the remains scattered along the tracks.
Eyewitnesses said the train was travelling at full speed when the buffaloes strayed onto the tracks. Yadav, in a desperate bid to save them, ran towards the animals but was caught in the path of the oncoming train.
The loco pilot immediately applied emergency brakes and managed to stop the train, but not before the fatal collision occurred. According to Sheikhpura police, train services were briefly disrupted for around half an hour and the front portion of the locomotive sustained partial damage.
Locals blame rlys after Vande Bharat mishap in Sheikhpura
Locals expressed anger and blamed railway authorities for the incident, citing a lack of basic safety measures. "This stretch is known for livestock crossings, but no fencing or barricades have been installed even after the introduction of semi high-speed trains like Vande Bharat on the route," said Surendra Ram, a neighbour of the deceased.
He added Yadav is survived by his wife and four minor children.
Sheikhpura police station SHO Dharmendra Kumar said assistant sub-inspector Ashok Paswan visited the spot and recorded statements from the locals. "The body was seized and sent for post-mortem to sadar hospital," he added.
Ravindra Yadav, Railway Protection Force (RPF) inspector at Mokama and currently in charge of the Kiul post, said the railways would soon begin an awareness campaign to discourage people from letting cattle roam freely near railway tracks.

Mired in many controversies, Elvish Yadav continues to enjoy immense popularity
Siddharth Elvish Yadav, a popular YouTuber in the Hindi-speaking region of the county who boasts of 1.57 crore subscribers, was again in headlines on Sunday as more than a dozen shots were fired outside his home in Gurgaon's Sector 56. While Bhau gang claimed responsibility for the incident, accusing the YouTuber of promoting betting platforms, an FIR has been launched and the probe in the matter is ongoing, said police. The 27-year-old has been mired in several legal battles in the past, and has even drawn public criticism over many incidents. However, the YouTuber, who won the Season 2 of Bigg Boss OTT 2 in 2023, continues to be immensely popular. The YouTuber has been accused of supplying snake venom for recreational use at rave parties in Noida. Following a complaint by nonprofit People for Animals (PFA), the Noida Police raided a Sector 51 banquet hall on November 3, 2023, seizing nine venomous snakes, including five cobras, and 20 ml of venom. Forensic tests confirmed that cobra and krait venom was found during the searches. Yadav was named in the FIR. He was issued a notice under Section 41 of the CrPC on November 7, 2023. He was arrested on March 17, 2024, under the Wildlife Protection Act, NDPS Act, and IPC Section 120B (criminal conspiracy). He spent 14 days in judicial custody before securing bail. The Enforcement Directorate initiated a money laundering probe against the YouTuber in May 2024. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court stayed trial court proceedings after Yadav's counsel argued that no snakes or narcotics were recovered from him. The case remains pending, with animal activist Saurabh Gupta alleging death threats from Yadav's associates. Yadav was booked by the Gurugram Police in March 2024 for assaulting YouTuber Sagar Thakur (Maxtern) at a shopping mall. A viral video purportedly showed Yadav attacking Thakur who alleged that Yadav tried to 'break his spine' and issued death threats. Yadav claimed Thakur provoked him with threats to 'burn his parents alive' and suggested the incident was staged. An FIR was filed for rioting and criminal intimidation, but Thakur later withdrew the complaint after reconciliation. Last February, a purported video, which was widely shared on social media, captured Yadav slapping a man at a Jaipur restaurant allegedly over derogatory remarks about his family. Yadav justified his actions in an audio clip, claiming provocation. No legal action was reported following the incident. During a podcast with Rajat Dalal earlier this year in February, Yadav made remarks about Bigg Boss 18 finalist Chum Darang, and was accused of mocking her name, ethnicity, and role in Bollywood movie 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. The comments sparked outrage, with the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women condemning him. The National Commission for Women summoned Yadav on April 22. He issued an apology, removed the offensive segment, and claimed his remarks were misconstrued. Yadav posted a vlog in February, claiming that the Rajasthan Police provided him a convoy during a Jaipur visit, showing police vehicles trailing his car. The video, featuring former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas's son, led to allegations of police favouritism. Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph denied providing security, stating the vehicles were routine patrol units. An FIR was filed against Yadav for spreading 'false propaganda'. The video showed Yadav's car bypassing a toll booth without payment. Last year, Yadav was also accused of misbehaving with a journalist in Jammu after refusing a fan's photo request and snatching the journalist's microphone. Viral videos claimed he was mobbed, but Yadav dismissed claims of an attack as a 'fake narrative'. No formal legal action was reported. In March last year, Yadav's parents revealed in an interview that he fabricated aspects of his lifestyle on social media to project a glamorous image, driven by engagement goals. After Bigg Boss OTT, Yadav's friendship with runner-up Abhishek Malhan soured, with both accusing each other of orchestrating negative PR campaigns. The public dispute fueled online debates among their fanbases. Yadav reported receiving a Rs 1 crore extortion demand via WhatsApp while in London, accompanied by death threats in 2023. A police complaint led to the arrest of the accused. 'The police, they caught the guy in six hours from Gujarat. He was an RTO agent who got my phone number from my car's registration,' he said. When asked if Yadav actually met the person after his arrest, he said that he was given the option but he chose not to meet him. Delhi Police summoned Yadav last March in connection with a Rs 500-crore investment fraud, involving the HIBOX mobile application. Over 500 complaints alleged that influencers, including Yadav, promoted the app, luring people into investing. The investigation continues, with no specific charges against Yadav reported yet.

Husband carries wife's body on motorcycle: AI helps Nagpur police nab hit-and-run truck driver
NAGPUR: A week after a viral video of a man carrying the body of his wife, who was run over by a truck, on his motorcycle triggered outrage, Nagpur Police traced and arrested the driver using artificial intelligence, an official said on Sunday. The biker, Amit Yadav, had claimed that he was forced to tie his wife's body to the motorcycle as nobody came to his aid following the tragic accident on the Nagpur-Jabalpur national highway on August 9. Deolapar Police initially had no clue about the truck driver. Police scanned footage from various CCTV cameras using AI-MARVEL (Maharashtra Advanced Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement), designed to assist the police in crime prevention and investigation, the official said. "Subsequently, the driver was identified as Satyapal Rajendra (28), a resident of Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh. The truck was impounded on August 16, and the accused was arrested," he said. According to the police, Yadav, who hails from Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district, was travelling with his wife Gyarsi, from Lonara in Nagpur to their village Karanpur in the neighbouring state when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle. As Gyarsi fell on the road, the truck ran over her and sped away, they said. Although Yadav pleaded for help from passing motorists, none of them stopped, and left with no choice, he tied Gyarsi's body to the two-wheeler to take her home, police said. A police van later intercepted the two-wheeler and took the body to the Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur for a post-mortem. The video clip showed Yadav riding the motorcycle with his wife's body tied to the pillion seat.

Railway officials worried over rising number of cases of trains running over cattle affecting passenger safety in Tiruchi Division
Last Monday saw yet another case of cattle being run over on the railway track in Tiruchi division. The aerodynamic portion of the Chennai-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express was damaged after it ran over a cattle between Vriddhachalam and Ariyalur, on the Villupuram-Tiruchi chord line. The train was delayed because of the incident. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested the cattle owner and booked a case against him for endangering passenger safety. The latest incident joins a long list of such instances reported within the jurisdiction of the Tiruchi Railway Division this year. According to RPF authorities, 219 cases of cattle being run over by trains were reported in Tiruchi Division, which is spread over 10 revenue districts, since January this year. Of these, 65 cases were reported in the four sections of Tiruverumbur-Ponmalai, Adirampattinam-Tillaivilagam, Budalur-Thanjavur and Nagapattinam-Karaikal, which are classified as 'vulnerable' stretches. Twenty-two incidents were reported on the Tiruverumbur-Ponmalai BG section alone. Despite periodic awareness campaigns, such instances remain a cause for concern for the railway authorities as these endanger passenger safety besides disrupting train services, said a senior RPF officer. The number of such incidents reported in 2024 was 345, the authorities said. RPF holds awareness programmes every time such an incident is reported in a particular stretch. Respective local panchayats are involved in these programmes to drive home the message to the people to stay alert and ensure that cattle are kept away from the tracks, the authorities added.
