Bollywood stars hitting the streets promoting their films

The Hindi film industry has been facing a turbulent phase over the past few years, with only a few films managing to make a mark at the box office annually. Major stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan have suffered back-to-back flops, while Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have significantly reduced their film output to one release every two or three years. With dwindling theatre footfalls, audiences are increasingly opting to watch content on OTT platforms instead. Realising the need for stronger audience engagement, Bollywood stars are now stepping out of their comfort zones and returning to aggressive ground-level promotions to draw crowds back to cinemas. The era of stars relying solely on press meets and media coverage appears to be over, replaced by direct public interaction. Recently, Akshay Kumar surprised fans by donning a mask and visiting a local theatre screening his latest film Housefull 5. He discreetly gathered public feedback without being recognised. Before most could realise who he was, Akshay left the premises. The video of this unique promotional stunt quickly went viral, earning praise from netizens. While Housefull 5 is seeing only average box office returns, Akshay's efforts have injected hope into the industry. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan, known for his innovative promotions, is back in action. To promote his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par, the actor was spotted selling vada pavs on a Mumbai street. With his last release Laal Singh Chaddha failing to impress, Aamir is determined to bounce back when the new film releases on June 20. As senior stars lead the way with unconventional promotional strategies, questions arise about the younger generation of actors. Will they follow suit and step up their efforts to reconnect with audiences? Only time will tell.

Dhanush says ‘Kuberaa' took him back to his ‘humble, rooted beginnings'

Taking a break from the shoot of Tere Ishq Mein, where he reportedly plays an Air Force officer, Tamil star Dhanush dropped by to promote his upcoming release, Kuberaa, at a Mumbai multiplex on Tuesday (June 10). In Kuberaa, Dhanush plays a beggar who 'undergoes a dramatic transformation'. The gritty, sweeping film explores themes of greed, morality and ambition. While Tere Ishq Mein will see Dhanush returning to Hindi cinema after four years, Kuberaa, co-starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, marks the Tamil actor's first foray into Telugu cinema. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, the film is a trilingual social thriller shot simultaneously in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil. The third song from the film's album, 'Pippi Pippi Dum Dum Dum', was launched in the presence of Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika, Jim Sarbh, Dalip Tahil and others at PVR Juhu, Mumbai. The film's music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. 'This film is extremely close to my heart,' Dhanush said, calling the experience of shooting Kuberaa both 'fantastic' and 'weird', since it took him out of his comfort zone. 'We shoot at dump yards and inside garbage trucks,' Dhanush shared. 'As actors, we live very protected lives. We like to do what's convenient. I come from very humble, rooted beginnings. So to go back and see that world again was both enlightening and nostalgic.' Praising his director, Sekhar Kammula, Dhanush recalled assenting to Kuberaa over a 20-minute narration. 'I loved his energy, his positivity and his honesty towards making this film.' Rashmika said Dhanush aces all kinds of roles in the most effortless fashion. 'He inspires us to work a hundred times extra to be 10 percent as good as him.' 'Right from the beginning of my career, from Shiva and Khuda Gawah to Criminal, Jakhm and Angaaray, not to mention my dubbed films, all of them have been accepted so well in the north. I appreciate that deeply,' Nagarjuna said. Kuberaa is co-written by Sekhar Kammula and Chaithanya Pingali. The film is releasing in theatres on June 20, 2025.

Veteran actor Kanwarjit Paintal joins the cast of Anupamaa; to play a pivotal role as Manohar Pandit

Kanwarjit Paintal, a veteran actor, is well known for his famous roles in Hindi television shows and films. The popular actor is about to make a comeback on tiny screens with the show Anupama. Anupamaa has been captivating fans with a significant plot twist in which the main heroine, Anupama, played by Rupali Ganguly , is accused of her son-in-law's death, making her life nothing short of torment. While the makers have kept details regarding Paintal's character under wraps, industry rumours say he may play Manohar Pandit. His character will most likely emerge when Rahi (Anupama's daughter, played by Adrija Roy) and Prem (Shivam Khajuria) relocate to Mumbai for Rahi's dance lessons. Because Anupama also works in the city, this move is expected to bring the main protagonists together and heighten the emotional intensity. Talking about the show, Anupama is attempting to restore her life and strengthen family relationships. Paintal's character may provide mentorship, conflict, or direction for her and Rahi. Whether he plays a positive or negative role, his presence will impact the plot and the character's journey. The show is at a vital point: Anupama must clear her name and show strength, Rahi is adjusting to life in Mumbai, and Prem continues to support his family. Paintal's character could have a significant impact on the series' future. Paintal is set to feature in the next episodes, which are currently under production. Viewers should soon observe his introduction and understand what he contributes to Anupamaa, whether it's direction, inspiration, or new tension.
