KUANTAN - A man and his wife were killed, while their three children were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Batu 8, Lepar, here last night.
Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the crash, which occurred at about 10pm, involved a Proton Wira car carrying the family of five and a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry owned by Golden Green Farm. He said initial investigations found that the crash occurred when Jamal Azizul Samat, 44, who was at the wheel of the car, which was heading towards Segamat from Kuantan, was believed to have lost control of the wheel while overtaking another vehicle before entering the opposite lane and colliding with the oncoming lorry.
"As a result of the crash, Jamal Azizul and his wife, Lizawati Abdullah, 41, died at the scene due to serious injuries. Their bodies were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA), Kuantan, for a post-mortem,' he said in a statement.
Mohd Zaidi said the three children, aged six to 17, suffered injuries to the head, face and abdomen, and were sent to the same hospital for treatment.
"The lorry driver Logesvaran Kandan, 31, did not suffer any injuries, while his two passengers, aged 24 and 37 respectively, suffered minor injuries,' he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - BERNAMA

IPOH: A policeman was killed after the motorcycle he was riding grazed against a lorry, causing him to fall onto the road at Kilometre 94 of Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth in Taman Selinsing Indah near Bagan Serai yesterday. Noor Hisam said the victim sustained serious injuries to the waist and legs. He said they are now reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) and dashcam footage from other vehicles to aid the investigation, in addition to efforts to locate the lorry and its driver. Singapore Authorities Probe 65 Cases Involving Etomidate-laced Vapes
By Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz SINGAPORE, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Some 65 cases involving the possession, sale or importation of etomidate-laced e-vaporisers are currently under investigation in Singapore, as the authorities intensify enforcement actions against offences related to these devices. The Health Ministry (MOH) and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said as of Aug 14, five individuals have been charged in court for the sale or importation of etomidate-laced e-vaporisers. bootstrap slideshow 'MOH and the HSA have been intensifying enforcement actions against etomidate-laced e-vaporiser offences in Singapore. 'Under the Poisons Act, persons found possessing, importing or selling pods containing etomidate are liable upon conviction to a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to two years and/or fine up to S$10,000,' they said in a statement. Etomidate will soon be classified as a Class C controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act and offenders caught using etomidate-laced e-vaporisers will be subject to mandatory supervision and rehabilitation. Repeat offenders are liable to be prosecuted and subject to jail for at least a year. More severe penalties apply to those selling, distributing or importing these devices, including imprisonment of up to 20 years and caning. Meanwhile, 100 individuals are under investigation for offences involving the sale, advertising or import of e-vaporisers under the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act with another 18 individuals facing charges in court for offences under the same Act. The possession, use or purchase of e-vaporisers carries a maximum fine of S$2,000. It is also an offence to import, distribute, sell or offer for sale e-vaporisers and their components

Bachok OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Azrie Sulaiman said the teenager, Tuan Nurul Ain Najihah Tuan Perang, was reported missing by her father, Tuan Perang Raja Husin, after he noticed at 6am that she was not in her bedroom. "The victim was last seen at 11.30 pm on Monday (Aug 11) at her home," he said in a statement Thursday (Aug 14). Mohd Azrie said the teenager, who had not been attending school since Form One, did not own a mobile phone and was found to have left home with her wallet and MyKad.
