AFL 2025: North Melbourne has thrown hand to embattled former player Tarryn Thomas
North Melbourne has reached out to embattled former player Tarryn Thomas after his latest brushes with trouble.
Thomas, who was banned from the AFL for his off-field behaviour, has had a tumultuous 12 months and was last week entangled in a pair of incidents.
It was first reported Thomas was involved in a 'hostage drama' in a botched car deal in Ballarat before he was then allegedly set to be charged with possession of drugs in Melbourne's CBD.
Thomas, 25, was taken at pick No. 8 by the Roos in 2018 and played 69 games at AFL level.
His former coach, Alastair Clarkson, said the Kangaroos had reached out to Thomas and hoped he found 'a pathway forward'.
'Perhaps that's a question more so for the AFL then it is perhaps for us, we don't know the depth of what has transpired,' Clarkson said.

'I am sure the AFLPA and the AFL are concerned for anyone who has played the game and the mistakes young men make along the journey and how can they rectify themselves, get on with their lives again.
'I am sure it's a concern for our club, a concern for the AFLPA and concern for the AFL and obviously a concern for Tarryn and his network of people supporting him.
'What we're hoping is through all that support he can find a pathway forward that allows him to get back on track with his life but also somewhere in the future get the opportunity to play footy again.'
Thomas was deemed eligible to play state-league football for stand-alone clubs this season but was knocked back by all seven Victorian clubs.
He then travelled to Perth and trained with WAFL club Swan Districts but the Swans too opted against fielding the former top draft pick.
'This process has uncovered many deep concerns and personal experiences,' Swan Districts chief executive Jeff Dennis said at the time.
'It's highlighted domestic violence has affected many people in our Swans family and shown us that we're just not ready for this.'

So, when the top-level club was looking for youngsters to be mascots for the players as they ran through the banner on Sunday, Bunbury Football Club's Tom Busher and Jenelle O'Reilly knew just the kids. Mila told the Bunbury Herald it was 'really exciting' to run through the banner with the players. 'I thought I was going to be famous,' she said. 'It was really good.' Her favourite part of the day was North Melbourne winning — fitting for a young player whose favourite part of AusKick is getting to kick goals. Adele Hough, Scott's wife, said it was heart-warming to see their children take part in such a fitting tribute to their dad. 'It was really heart-warming, they loved it,' she said. 'It was all heart-warming to watch them in front of the crowd.' Ms O'Reilly said it was special to see the pair run out in honour of the club life-member, much-loved friend and well-missed premiership player. Scott's love of football has been passed on to the young pair, with Mila playing AusKick for the Bulldogs and both kids excited to don their North Melbourne gear and watch the game.

Shirvo's $10k promise steals the show at Big Freeze 11
Channel 7 superstar and former sprinter Matt Shirvington has pledged to keep his Thor costume on for his flight home after braving the elements at the annual Big Freeze ahead of the King's Birthday blockbuster between Collingwood and Melbourne at the MCG. Now in its 11th year, another 10 identities from the sporting world took the icy plunge as AFL icon and Australian of the Year Neale Daniher, the driving force behind the initiative, watched on. I had someone say if you stay in the Thor uniform and do not have a shower, they will donate $10,000,' commentator Hamish McLachlan said to Shirvo. He only took a moment to contemplate the dare before agreeing. 'If they let me through security, 10 grand to the cause ... Neale, hopefully we will make it happen, hey?' Shirvo said. Neale Daniher honoured with guard of honour from both teams before King's Birthday clash
Neale Daniher has been honoured by Collingwood, Melbourne and the wider AFL community with an 'incredibly touching' guard of honour before the traditional King's Birthday clash on Monday. The pre-match begun, as always, with the Big Freeze 11 sliders, where Sunrise star Matt Shirvington and Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus led a group of 10 Aussie icons, dressed in the theme of Aussie icons. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Guard of honour formed for Neale Daniher. Then, when the two teams entered the stadium for their last-minute pre-match run-throughs, every Melbourne player ran over to Daniher on the sidelines to each give him their own touch. Minutes later, players from both sides, as well as coaches and umpires, formed a guard of honour for the Australian of the Year, just ahead of the first bounce of the game. Daniher was wheeled through the guard of honour by his son Luke in what was an emotional scene. A sea of the iconic blue beanies formed the backdrop to the guard of honour, which was conducted on the boundary line near the crowd. It was a special touch added to what has already become a landmark event on the Australian sporting calendar. 'This is a magic moment,' Dale Thomas said. Bruce McAvaney added: 'What a football family the Danihers are, and what an Australian family they've become. 'And for Neale, who could have hidden away from this and we wouldn't have seen them for all these years, he has delivered in spades in terms of inspiration.'
