India Must Embrace Buddhism for True Progress: Ambedkar Youth Association Holds Grand Buddha Purnima Celebrations in Ieeja
Gadwal: Marking the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the All India Ambedkar Youth Association organized a grand tribute to Gautama Buddha in Ieeja town under the leadership of District President Macherla Prakash. The event drew significant attention as leaders from various political parties and social organizations participated in paying homage to the great spiritual teacher.
Speaking at the event, Macherla Prakash emphasized that the complete adoption of Buddhism across India is essential for the nation's moral and social progress. He praised Buddhism as a path of compassion, non-violence, freedom, and equality, and underlined how Buddha's teachings promote the idea of universal brotherhood and human dignity.
"Buddhism does not discriminate—it sees every human as equal," said Prakash. "Buddha's philosophy enlightens the individual and guides society away from hatred and inequality. He taught us to walk the path of righteousness and humanity."
He also recalled the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, who converted to Buddhism as a step toward establishing social justice and equality for all. 'Dr. Ambedkar believed that Buddhism provides equal opportunity to every individual. It is our duty to carry forward his ideology and spread the values of Buddhism throughout the country,' he added.
As part of the Buddha Purnima observances, a Sri Gayatri Yagnam was also held at Jagannath Gutta in Kurnool District, attended by S. Ramachandra Reddy, former BJP District President of Jogulamba Gadwal. The ritual was conducted to honor Buddha's message of peace and enlightenment.

Govt mulls fresh proposal, technical panel for Bhubaneswar Metro
Bhubaneswar: A fresh proposal is under consideration for Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project, with the state govt planning to form a technical committee to study the best practices in the metro system and implement the same in the city. Speaking to the media, housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said on Thursday that the new technical committee will have members from the department as well as metro rail experts. "We have reviewed the metro project and made some important decisions. A committee with the department secretary and other members will be formed, which will provide plans for the new route and other modalities for the project," Mahapatra said. The minister said the previous plan was not feasible. "The route in the previous plan was not suitable for the project. Even a minor soil testing on the stretch had led to massive traffic chaos," he added. Mahapatra said a fresh proposal will be made and sent to the Centre for approval. "Bhubaneswar Metro will be executed under a Centre-state partnership. Committee members will visit other cities to understand the best practices," Mahapatra said. Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project, originally planned during BJD rule, has undergone significant changes under the current BJP govt. ‘3,000 bighas? Is this a joke': Gauhati HC baulks at land allotment to cement firm in tribal district
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court, in a hearing last week, expressed shock over the allotment of 3,000 bighas (around 4 square kilometers) of land to a private cement company in Assam's Dima Hasao district. '3,000 bighas? What is going on? 3,000 bighas allotted to a private company?' Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi said during a recent hearing, a video of which has gone viral on social media. When G Goswami, counsel for Mahabal Cements, argued, 'It's a barren land,' Justice Medhi retorted, 'We know how barren is NC Hills. 3,000 bighas? What kind of a decision is this? Is this some kind of a joke or what?' At this, the counsel said, 'We need it,' but the judge responded, 'Your need is not the issue. Public interest is the issue.' A batch of petitions has been filed by local villagers resisting eviction. The company has also filed one seeking protection, alleging that miscreants were interfering with its operations. Dima Hasao, a hill district, is administered by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The BJP-ruled council approved the land allotment. In its order of August 12, the court said that a cursory glance at the case revealed the land sought to be allotted was about 3,000 bighas, which 'itself appeared to be extraordinary.' It directed the council to produce relevant records, including the policy under which such a large tract of land could be allotted to a factory. 'The aforesaid direction has been given by taking into account that the district is a Sixth Schedule district under the Constitution of India where the priority has to be given to the rights and interest of the tribal people residing there,' the order said. The court noted that the area in question, Umrangso, is recognised as an environmental hotspot with hot springs, migratory bird stopovers and wildlife.
