"I Lost My Faith In Humanity That Day": Adults Are Sharing The Wildest Things They've Had To Explain To Other Adults, And Yiiiiikes

Everyone's trying to figure life out, but common sense and knowledge do go...a long way. Recently, BuzzFeed Community members shared the things they couldn't believe they had to explain to other adults, and some of these are so baffling that all you can really do is chuckle:
1."I had to convince a college student that Louie Armstrong was not the first man on the moon."
—bubblychicken804
2."I was at a party playing Cards Against Humanity when someone pulled a card that said 'Hiroshima' on it. She was so confused; she turned to me and asked, 'Who is Hiroshima?' I lost my faith in humanity that day."
—Alex, 35, Nevada
3."My ex-husband thought that Christmas was on a different day every year, like Thanksgiving. This was in the '90s before smartphones, and we only had the internet at work, so the best I could do was show him a three-year calendar that showed Christmas always being on the 25th. In 10 years, I was never able to convince him that he wasn't right."

4."I once had to explain to someone twice my age that chocolate milk does not come from brown cows. The amount of people in the US who believe that is incredible."
—Anonymous
5."My brother thought that babies and moms were 'snapped' onto each other's belly buttons on the inside. He was in his 20s at the time."
—Anonymous
6."My college-educated ex-husband thought that driving uphill meant he was driving north. He thought that since north is 'up' on a map, it must be the same on the ground. I asked him what direction we'd be heading when we crested the hill and went down the other side. He had to think it through for a long time before understanding."
—Martha, 73, Florida
7."I had to explain to a man in his 60s that Japan is part of Asia."

8."I had to explain to a former sister-in-law that quitting 'cold turkey' did not actually include turkey."

9."In my mid-30s, I went back to school to finish college. I had at least three classmates ask if I was Italian, since my last name is Madrid. I explained each time that Madrid is the capital of Spain, and not a city in Italy. I just received blank stares from them."
—Anonymous, 57, California
10."I had to explain to a coworker that going down on a guy wouldn't get them pregnant."
—Anonymous
11."While preparing to move to Alaska, a coworker of mine asked what type of currency is used there. I told her that Alaska is a US state. She said she knew that, but she figured since it was so far away, they had their own currency. Can't make this up."

12."I had to explain to an older woman I was chatting with in a grocery store that, no, it is not the Democrats' position that being pro-abortion rights means you have a right to kill your baby after birth if you don't want it."
—Anonymous
13."We asked our adult coworker to let us know when it was a quarter till one (12:45). Promptly at 12:35, she let us know that it was a quarter till. We all just kind of sat there, looking at her, before asking why she had alerted us at 12:35. She explained that a quarter till was 25 minutes before, saying, 'You know, like how a quarter is 25 cents.' She hasn't lived that one down since."
—Anonymous
14."I had to explain to a NURSE that someone with a red meat intolerance cannot eat beef. She kept arguing that beef isn't red meat because 'it's brown.'"
—Christina, 33, Florida
15."The number of times I've had to explain to people that West Virginia is a state entirely separate from Virginia due to the events of the Civil War is truly mind-blowing."
—adrienoelle2258
16."I once had someone tell me that they didn't vote because the only votes that really counted were the ones from the 'college kids.' I asked if she was referring to the Electoral College, and she said yes. I tried to explain, but she said she learned what she knew from government class in high school, and she passed with flying colors, so I must have it wrong."
—Anonymous
17."A man who claimed he'd been vegan for over five years refused to believe me when I told him that lactose-free yogurt is still, in fact, a dairy product."
—paulau4fbdfb725
18."That narwhals are real. An adult friend of mine believed they were fake since they were called the 'unicorns of the sea,' and laughed at me for insisting they exist. Good ole Google helped settle that debate."
—Anonymous
19."I was working in a law office as a paralegal, and the paralegal next to me said the US has 52 states. Mind you, we were both in our 30s. I tried explaining that there are only 50, but her response was: 'We have 52, and I'm not counting Mexico and Canada.' I printed out a blank map of America and gave it to her to fill out in her free time."
—Anonymous
20."I once went on a date to see the movie, Titanic. My date was someone I worked with who, at 40, held a pretty prestigious position within the company. When the movie was over, I mentioned how tragic it was and how so many people lost their lives. He looked at me and said it was just a movie, so it's not like it happened in real life. When I told him that the Titanic actually sank, he refused to believe me and argued with me about it. Needless to say, our first date was also our last."
—lunallee212
21.Lastly: "That olives are NOT pickled grapes."
—Anonymous

'It put a chip on my shoulder': Texas A&M LB reflects on Texas recruiting snub

On Tuesday, Netflix released its much-anticipated college football series, "SEC Football: Any Given Saturday," which featured several SEC teams' journey during the 2024 college football season, including Texas A&M. While LSU, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina were heavily features, the revival of the Lone Star Showdown after the Texas Longhorns entered the SEC last summer was the primary focus during the second to final episode. However, Aggie fans have correctly pointed out that, outside of LSU's 38-23 loss in Kyle Field, every game Texas A&M was featured in was one of the team's five losses, including South Carolina and Auburn, two games that essentially ended A&M's College Football Playoff hopes. Still, the player interviews alone are worth the watch, starting and ending with Texas A&M junior linebacker Taurean York, who has been the team's starting middle linebacker since his 2023 freshman season. York finished the 2024 season with a team-high 82 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and his first career interception, and is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. As an underrated prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the Temple, Texas native, grew up a little less than an hour away from Austin, Texas, but did not receive any attention or an offer from the Longhorns, which was further revealed during his Thanksgiving trip back home before facing Texas that Saturday night. "(The game against Texas) for me, is extremely personal. I grew up 50 minutes away from the university of Texas. I was a top-1000 player. They never really called me, they never really showed me any attention. I had a high school teammate who was recruited by Texas and they flew a helicopter all the way down in Temple. My coach called me in there and sat in that meeting with them, those guys wouldn't give me the time of day. It put a chip on my shoulder for sure, but Texas A&M loved me through and through. They loved me for who I was as a player, as a person. That's when I closed the book on Texas." That's recruiting in a nutshell, and even Mike Elko, who was entering his second season as Duke's head coach at the time, tried everything in his power to lure York to North Carolina, not knowing he would inherit the elite defender just a year later. Texas A&M will travel to Austin this season to face a Longhorns team ranked No. 1 in the first US LBM Coaches Poll, this time on Black Friday. The Aggies defeated Texas during two of the last three games in Austin (2006, 2010). Walking Dead Star Kelley Mack's Death Was Very Unexpected

On Tuesday, the sad news broke that actor Kelley Mack had died at the age of 33 — just seven months after being diagnosed with glioma of the central nervous system, which is a type of cancer. Kelley's sister confirmed that she had died on Saturday in an emotional Instagram post that was shared to her profile. 'It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,' the post began. 'Kelley passed peacefully on Saturday evening with her loving mother Kristen and steadfast aunt Karen present.' 'Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies 🦋 ❤️. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express,' the post went on. 'She would want you all to know how much she loves you. And as her sister, I want you all to know how brave that tough SOB was, especially when she decided to make the leap to be reunited with God. I'm so fucking proud of her.' And now, Kelley's reps have confirmed that the star's death was a complete shock, and that she'd been auditioning as recently as June. The rep told People that they were 'totally surprised' by Kelley's death, adding: 'We had no idea the turn it took and it was very unexpected.' TMZ was the first to report this, with this publication also stating that Kelley had a 'nice recovery' after undergoing treatment for glioma in February before relapsing shortly before her death. She is said to have told her team she needed to take a break from auditioning in early July. Kelley shared her cancer diagnosis with her Instagram followers on Jan. 3, where she explained that she started suffering 'persistent lower back pain' in September. She added: 'A few weeks later, I had neuropathic itching in my right quad. And then, the shooting pains in my legs and back began, which resulted in me having to sleep in a recliner for a month because laying down was too painful. On Thanksgiving Eve, I had emergency MRIs done at the hospital, which revealed an abnormal mass in my spinal cord. Fast forward to now - I have been diagnosed with #diffusemidlineglioma, an extremely rare type of #astrocytoma #cancer. Due to the biopsy surgery on my spinal cord, I have lost the use of my right leg and most of my left leg, so I now get around with a walker and a wheelchair.' "I am determined and know that this will eventually be a short chapter in my long book," she poignantly added at the time. "The positivity, love and prayers that are being sent my way already is overwhelming and I feel it all. Thank you so much ❤️❤️" On March 14, Kelley revealed that she had finished proton radiation treatment and been undergoing physical therapy. She wrote: 'Overall, this journey has not been easy, but things are getting better — improvements are tough to see when you're in the thick of it.' And on March 26, the star shared a video of herself proudly walking up some stairs with assistance, saying that 'it's a big deal' for her. Kelley was best known for playing Addy in Season 9 of The Walking Dead, starring in five episodes between 2018 and 2019. The show's director and other stars are among those to have paid tribute to Kelley since news of her death broke. Kelley also played Penelope Jacobs in Chicago Med, and appeared in 9-1-1. A recognition and remembrance of Kelley's life will be held in her home state of Ohio on Aug. 16, and her family are also planning a celebration of life in Los Angeles for Kelley's friends and colleagues in the area.

Glass French Nails Are A Modern Take On A Timeless Classic

All linked products are independently selected by our editors. If you purchase any of these products, we may earn a commission. There are very few nail designs that have stood the test of time quite like the humble French manicure. Its charm undeniably lies in its versatility and understated nature, with that classic combination of clean pink base and crisp white tips becoming a shortcut for looking put-together. While there have been some similarly pared-back nail looks proving popular this season (think chic princess nails and milky white manicures to name just two), I'd argue that this summer has seen maximalist manicures reigning supreme. Yet between the polka dots, beach towel stripes and Italian summer designs, a modern spin on our favourite minimalist style is starting to emerge. Enter: the 'glass French' manicure. Adding a hint of shimmer and shine to a classic look, this style has a familiarly neutral base but replaces that solid white tip with an iridescent cat-eye effect that catches the light like glass. One for the die-hard French manicure fans or those who are looking for a playful summer upgrade, here's everything you need to know about the trend… View this post on Instagram A post shared by ATL Nail Artist • ROSIE (@donebyrosie) What are glass French nails? Think of the 'glass' French manicure as a contemporary twist on a classic look, which switches the classic white tip with a reflective, glassy effect. 'It's like a French manicure with a futuristic twist,' explains celebrity manicurist Michelle Humphrey. 'Instead of the usual opaque white tip, it features a sheer or dimensional effect that mimics glass or crystal.' While many nail artists will use a cat-eye gel to nail this look, there are other swaps that you can make to lend the same high-shine, glossy finish. 'You could try swapping the classic white French tips for magnetic, jelly or even chrome finishes that catch the light,' says session and celebrity manicurist Sophia Stylianou. While there are a few different ways that you can create that signature glassy tip, Humphrey swears by using a cat eye gel for the effect, starting with a sheer pink colour as a neutral base. 'Once it's applied, and before curing, I use a magnet to pull the metallic pigment in the cat eye gel into a curve that mimics the shape of the nail smile line,' Humphrey explains. Once it's set, she then layers on a sheer chrome powder to add that trademark shine. Not sure which colour to opt for? 'For summer, soft golds, champagne silvers and rose quartz tones are cute, while deeper smokier chromes like hematite, velvet green and sapphire will give a moodier molten vibe,' she says. If you want to recreate the glass French vibe without a UV lamp then there are some ways to achieve a similar look. 'Start with a sheer or jelly shade as your base, then apply a magnetic-effect or chrome colour polish to the tips for a look that will still have that signature shimmer and light-reflecting finish, suggests Stylianou, who recommends the Get Magnetised Nail Polishes, £10, and Leighton Denny's High Performance Nail Polish in Super Wings, £12.50. Crucially, don't forget the top coat. 'Seal it all with a high-gloss top coat, like Essie Gel Couture Top Coat, £10.99, for a polished, glass-like finish with no UV lamp needed,' says Humphreys.
