JI women wing denounces 'honour killings'
In a statement made yesterday, Javeda said that the series of violent incidents are a slap in the face of the state.
Women are being brutally killed whether they marry on their own accord or deny a marriage proposal. Islam clearly mandates a woman's consent in marriage.
The government seems helpless in front of outdated traditions and a violent society. Whether it is Islamabad or Balochistan, Karachi or Peshawar, unpardonable oppression is thriving everywhere. Instead of delivering justice, the courts are busy in sycophancy of the ruling elite, while public representatives are ineffective.
To make matter worse, the media by repeatedly showing crimes is turning people into mental patients.
JI's Nazima Karachi has appealed to the Prime Minister that the state should play its role and hang the perpetrators of such incidents publicly. To curb crimes in society, practical and iron-fisted measures should be taken instead of just rhetoric, she demanded.

Marka-e-Haq celebrations kicks off in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The District Administration of Hyderabad has officially launched the celebrations for Independence Day and Victory of Truth, 'Marka-e-Haq' with a vibrant rally led by Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon. The Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad announced the day began with the plantation of 5,000 trees in various parts of the city, involving school students and citizens. He emphasized that today's rally marks the beginning of a grand schedule of events, including a mega student flag project, a marathon race, and the Cricket Tournament. He also noted that August 4 will be observed as Martyrs' Day, and August 5 as Exploitation Day, with various events planned to commemorate both occasions. Our goal is to create meaningful and festive experiences for the lively people of Hyderabad,' he added. JI to hold rallies for Kashmir, Palestine
KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan announced that protests, rallies, and demonstrations will be held across the city on August 5 to mark 'Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir' in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine. He was addressing a press conference at the party's headquarters, Idara Noor-e-Haq on Friday Monem Zafar condemned the Indian government's abrogation of Article 370 and equated the actions of India in Kashmir and Israel in Gaza, criticizing the global silence over the humanitarian crises in both regions. He particularly called out the Muslim world for failing to take a firm stand against the use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza, where he said over 60,000 civilians had been killed and many more were now dying of hunger. He urged Pakistan's military leadership, particularly Field Marshal Asim Munir, to spearhead efforts to unite the Muslim world against Israeli atrocities, saying Pakistan, as a nuclear power, has a greater responsibility. Turning to Karachi's deteriorating law and order, Monem Zafar cited alarming figures: 56 people killed in street crimes, over 26,000 motorcycles snatched or stolen, and 354 lives lost in traffic accidents over the past six months. He criticized the Sindh government for failing to act, accusing it of focusing on revenue collection through vehicle number plates while ignoring its basic duties. He demanded the government issue number plates free of cost, noting that citizens had already paid for them. He said the administration had lost its writ in Karachi, pointing to poor services, broken infrastructure, and lack of clean water and electricity. He also questioned the Pakistan Peoples Party's claims about building 800,000 houses for flood victims, calling for transparency and urging clarity on the K4 water project's funding shortfall. SU launches Independence Day celebrations under ‘Marka-e-Haq' theme
HYDERABAD: The University of Sindh, Jamshoro, launched its two weeks Independence Day celebrations under the 'Marka-e-Haq' theme with a vibrant walk and a symbolic tree plantation drive on Friday, in line with the schedule announced recently at a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Sindh at the CM House. Waving national flags and raising slogans in favour of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan, a large number of faculty members, officers and staff participated in a spirited march led by SU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman Khoumbati. The rally began at the back gate of the administrative building and concluded at the main entrance of AC-II circling around the premises. Participants enthusiastically expressed gratitude for the country's triumphs in past conflicts, particularly hailing the Pakistan Air Force for its decisive actions, including the downing of six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafales. Addressing the rally, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khoumbati reflected on the sacrifices that led to the creation of Pakistan and warned against the challenges the nation faces today from terrorism and extremism. 'Pakistan was born out of a long and difficult struggle. Today, we are again called upon to stand united and resolute,' he said. Pinning his hopes on the younger generation, the Vice-Chancellor said that university students had the potential to become architects of national revival. 'Our youth can be the force that repels negativity. They possess the vision to chart a new course for the country. We must equip them with education, our most powerful weapon to face the complex challenges of the modern world,' he noted. Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor were Registrar Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jariko, Pro-Vice Chancellor of SU Thatta Campus Professor Dr. Misbah Bibi Qureshi, deans, academic and administrative heads, faculty members, and university employees. Earlier in the day, national flags were hoisted across the campus, creating an atmosphere of patriotic fervour. As part of the celebrations, Dr. Khoumbati also inaugurated a 'Tree Plantation Drive for Climate Change' to mark Independence Day with an environmental focus. Speaking at the plantation ceremony, he said that extreme weather patterns had wreaked havoc in Pakistan in recent years. One of the most impactful ways to counter it was through large-scale tree plantation. 'Everyone from students to staff can take part in this collective mission,' he said. He said that enhancing tree cover would not only combat climate change but also improve air quality and public health, adding that environmental action was a civic responsibility.
