BBC Only Connect fans moan 'standards are slipping' as they spot error minutes into show
The beloved BBC quiz show Only Connect, hosted by the sharp-witted Victoria Coren Mitchell, has made its triumphant return to our screens with a brand-new series.
The quiz programme challenges teams to unravel the connections between seemingly unrelated clues in a battle of wits and knowledge.
In the latest series premiere, which graces our screens on Monday nights on BBC Two, eagle-eyed fans were left scratching their heads as they believed they spotted an error early in the episode.
Victoria posed a question to one of the teams: "What is the connection between these, apparently random, picture clues?" as an image of snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan popped up, followed by a depiction of Rocket Raccoon from the Marvel universe.
The contestants quickly deduced that 'rocket' was the common link, a guess that Victoria confirmed as correct before revealing the remaining two images: a drawing of Stephenson's Rocket and a picture of rocket salad leaves, reports Wales Online.
But some viewers were adamant that the locomotive illustrated was not Stephenson's Rocket, prompting them to air their grievances on social media.
One disgruntled fan tweeted: "First mistake on the new series of @ BBC #OnlyConnect. This is LOCOMOTION not Stephensons ROCKET @VictoriaCoren," attaching a photo of the contentious sketch.
Another viewer chimed in with disappointment: "Standards are slipping Robert," while yet another expressed surprise: "And on the very first question too!".
"Came here to the #OnlyConnect trending comments to see this! I got the answer in two, but if I'd needed a third this would have thrown me," chimed in another fan.
Another viewer also concurred, posting on X: "#onlyconnect Probably says more about me than anything else, but the picture of Stephenson's Rocket in round one tonight wasn't Stephenson's Rocket. It was Puffing Billy. I shall now go back to looking for my life down the back of the sofa."
Since its debut in 2008, Only Connect has won over quiz show enthusiasts and secured its place as a staple in British television.
The show consistently ranks as BBC Two's most viewed programme of the week, often sandwiched between Mastermind and University Challenge, contributing to the channel's popular quiz night line-up.

A pursuit involving a tank has been filmed in the city centre over the weekend. The huge armoured vehicle sped down the street being pursued by three NYPD police cars with red and blue lights flashing. The vehicle appeared to be 'firing' one of its prop guns, with light being seen coming from the weapon as it soared along the road. Two other cars were speeding behind the tank, one carrying a device used to trigger the blast. As the speeding police cars approached a junction, a huge fireball erupted sending out a ferocious boom as part of the stunt. The pursuing cops cars were sent screeching past the flames, with one weaving and skidding as part of the scene. Another explosion was triggered as the chase moved further down Bothwell Street. The blasts were triggered by devices attached to two motors involved in the chase. The stunt cars had boxes attached to long metal beams running behind them. Movie fans gathered in their droves to get a behind the scenes glimpse at how the big budget flick is being made. "There were some smaller explosions in the scenes they were shooting but we weren't expecting anything like that. "I got a bit of a shock when that explosion happened, it was really epic. One lucky youngster, who came dressed as Spidey, was handed over the barriers and got his picture taken with the star. Spider-Man 4 is the latest flick to be filmed in Glasgow, and Bothwell Street is a popular choice. Hollywood hunk Glen Powell has filmed TWO recent movies in the city. The Twisters star filmed sci-fi flick Ghost Writer and the remake of 80's blockbuster Running Man on the street. World War Z, which starred Brad Pitt, 61, previously used George Square to represent Philadelphia, while the city was also transformed into Gotham City for Batgirl and The Batman. And the Merchant City got turned into 1960's New York for a parade chase scene in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Gavin and Stacey crew member whose death shook star was 'prolific' DJ as tributes paid
Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne shared recently that a crew member from the BBC show had died and his former colleague has since been named as musician Rob Picton Tributes have been paid to a former Gavin and Stacey crew member who died recently. Mathew Horne has been among those reflecting on the news, with him having choked up whilst discussing the loss an event this week. Mathew, 46, who played Gavin Shipman, became emotional whilst on stage at an event held on Thursday. The actor announced that one of the drivers who worked on the sitcom's finale, which aired back in December, had died recently. He referred to his late colleague simply as Rob. The crew member is understood to be Rob Picton, who's been named elsewhere. Although having worked as a driver on the BBC show, he's known as a DJ, producer and club promoter in Wales, and has been the subject of tributes. It's yet to be announced how Rob, also known as Joe Blow, died. Last month, he posted about his health on social media, telling fans that he had been experiencing esophagitis, which involves the inflammation of the esophagus, and had been sent home from work previously due to chest pains. He wrote on July 17: "To everyone who has been trying to get hold of me, I will be back in touch, I'm not ignoring you. Got sent home from work a few days ago with chest pains and been wiped out ever since with Esophagitis." Rob shared that he would have to miss some events as a result. He also said: "Its sucks not being able to swallow food or drink without being in excruciating pain, as anyone who knows me knows its my favourite thing to do." Over a week later though, Rob appeared to be back at work. He posted about at a rave event in Cardiff that he is understood to have organised and thanked fans for their support. Gavin and Stacey star Mathew paid tribute to his late former colleague at a talk in Taunton earlier this week. The actor took part in an In Conversation event at Taunton Brewhouse in Somerset on Thursday. As reported by the Sun, he apologised to the audience at one point, saying that he had been "distracted" after hearing about his colleague's death. He said: "Earlier on ... we had a driver on the finale called Rob and he was in his early 40s... and I found out via the WhatsApp group earlier that he has passed away and I got slightly distracted there." Mathew described the news as "really sad" and reiterated that he had got distracted over the loss. He added: "He was a really lovely guy and he's left a four-year-old behind and that is really, really, really sad." There have been tributes to Rob this week, including on BBC Introducing with Adam Walton. Adam Walton said that he had the "privilege" of playing Rob's music, including as a member of groups, on the BBC Radio show for more than 25 years. He further paid tribute and expressed his condolences to those who knew Rob. Adam said at one point: "Rob was a great and prolific emcee, and his loss is seismic for his friends and collaborators and obviously for his family and community."

The Met Office has warned that Storm Floris is expected to bring gusts of up to 90mph tomorrow morning. The Met Office said: "Storm Floris will bring a spell of unusually strong west or northwesterly winds to much of Scotland during Monday. 'Gusts of 50 to 70 mph are expected for many parts, and are likely to reach 80 to 90 mph on some exposed coasts, hills and bridges. 'Western coastal areas will see the highest gusts between late morning and early afternoon, the strongest winds then transferring to northeastern Scotland by late afternoon/early evening.' Filming for the new Spider-Man movie has already seen several intense stunts being captured this weekend as locals gathered to watch the action. Earlier today, Spider-Man stood on top of a tank as it flew down Bothwell Street in a chaotic car stunt. TOP FILMING LOCATION THE flick has brought movie-fever to Glasgow once again, with some punters dressed as Spider-Man putting in an appearance. Holland, 29, returns as the titular character, with real-life girlfriend Zendaya, 28, as Michelle Jones "MJ" Watson, Jon Bernthal, 48, portraying The Punisher, and Charlie Cox, 42, as Daredevil. Filming is set to move further along into Merchant City after Wednesday, August 13, with scenes are also expected to be shot on Glassford Street and Virginia Street. Three New York-style police cars followed in hot pursuit as they sped down the road with their lights flashing behind him. And on Saturday, a huge chase scene saw cars thrown into the air as a huge crowd watched. A black film car raced ahead of the tank as it rumbled down the road, and a taxi and a van attached to hydraulic ramps were thrown into the air as the war machine sped past. A high-tech drone with a camera attached was zooming overhead to get aerial shots of the stunt as the tank came to a screeching halt at the bottom of the street. Glasgow now resembles the Big Apple for Holland's latest MCU appearance. Historic street signs have been covered with decor from Manhattan, while hot dog carts and newsstands are scattered among the streets. Movie vehicles are also being stored on West Campbell Street. The road has been lined with an ambulance and New York Fire Department pick-up truck, as well as scores of iconic New York yellow taxis and NYPD police cars. Glasgow City Council told the Scottish Sun that production crews would make the decision on whether filming would go ahead. XM2 could not comment when approached by the Scottish Sun.
