NOT FAR from London is a sandy beach with beautiful waters - but surprisingly, it's nowhere near the coast.
Frensham Great Pond in Surrey is a Green Flag award-winning site with excellent water quality, making it a great swim spot, without venturing to the beach.

Frensham Great Pond, found between Farnham and Hindhead, is just an hour and a half drive away from London.
The pond is known for its sandy beach and is a popular spot for swimming, sailing and fishing.
According to the government website, the water quality at Frensham Great Pond has been "excellent" since 2021.
The most recent water sample was taken on June 24, 2025.
During the hot weather, Frensham Great Pond can get very busy with families picnicking on the beach and having paddles in the water.
But there are times when the pond is quiet - one swimmer wrote on Facebook earlier this month: "Cracking swim at the famous Frensham Ponds in Surrey. Had the whole place to ourselves, bliss!"
Another commented: "Lovely place for a stroll. Ideal for families for a swim in the pond. Enjoy the sandy beach with a picnic."
A third described it as a "wild fresh water swimming oasis."
The pond forms part of the larger Frensham Common, which is about 1,000 acres, including Frensham Little Pond.
During the summer months, there is occasional Blue-Green Algae and a sign will go up to warn swimmers about going in - but currently the pond is safe to swim in.

However, you can't swim in Frensham Little Pond because it's water quality isn't as good, and it's home to protected wildlife.
You might not have visited Frensham Pond in person, but there's a chance you've seen them on the big screen.
Frensham Pond has spent some time on both the big and small screen, it appeared in the 1999 film, The Mummy, for a Nile scene.
Snow White and the Huntsman, which had a cast including Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, was filmed at Frensham Little Pond too.
The woods were used for forest scenes and Frensham Pond for a fishing village with huts being built on the shores.
Part of the 1960s classic Carry On Jack was filmed there too, as well as scenes for the fantasy series, The Witcher.
Frensham Little Pond was also the setting of Nimue's home village in the Netflix series, Cursed starring Katherine Langford.

THE new ITV drama Karen Pirie has viewers gripped, and they can't help but check out the backdrop of Scotland too. It's got rich history too dating back to the Mesolithic era, it's also known as "Kingdom of Fife" and was once the home of many Scottish monarchs. Nowadays it is well-known for its two sandy beaches, Kinghorn Harbour beach and Pettycur Bay beach, which are what is listed as the best thing to do on Tripadvisor. One visitor to Pettycur Bay wrote: "Just love this little gem! When the tide is out there's a ridiculously huge expansive beach that goes for miles. "It's never mobbed there I can't understand why because it's an awesome place. On a clear day, there are good views of the Forth bridges." The Fergusons, from Airdrie in North Lanarkshire, were touring across parts of America when they had the run in with the furry beast. While they were packing up their car, a curious black bear climbed into the boot of the car. Members of the family were sent scrambling, including some who were inside the motor when the clawed growler clambered in. One member of the family is seen fleeing the motor as the beast made its appearance. They were left panicking on the porch of their rental cabin as the bear rummaged through their car. It was throwing their cases from the open boot of the 4x4 and even made its way to the front seats of the motor. One of them turned on the vehicle's car alarm in an attempt to scare away the four-legged predator. The repeated blasts of the horn seemed to do the trick as the bear wandered off. Grace Sloan, 18, was with her boyfriend Logan Ferguson, 19, on his family's two week road trip through Tennessee, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, North Carolina, and Alabama. She reckons the family are lucky to be alive after the encounter. It could have killed one of us and Paul and Johnny are lucky to be alive in that way.' Black bears are quite common in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, with just under 2,000 bears expected to be living in the park. Bear encounters are normally quite high during from May to August inside the picturesque national park. The US National Park Service said: "Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States where black bears can live in wild, natural surroundings. Bears inhabit all elevations of the park. Though populations are variable, biologists estimate that roughly 1,900 bears live in the park. "This equals a population density of approximately two bears per square mile." They added: "Black bears in the Smokies are black in color, but in other parts of the country they may be brown or cinnamon. "They may be six feet in length and up to three feet high at the shoulder. "During the summer months, a typical adult male bear weighs approximately 250 pounds while adult females are generally smaller and weigh slightly over 100 pounds. However, bears may double their weight by the fall. "Bears over 600 pounds have been documented in the park. Bears can live 12-15 years or more, however bears which have had access to human foods and garbage have a life expectancy of only half that time."
