Full list of games CLOSING in 2025 with hundreds of millions of players locked out on Xbox, PlayStation & PCs in weeks
The 'closure' of the final entry on this list is especially tragic LOGGED OFF Full list of games CLOSING in 2025 with hundreds of millions of players locked out on Xbox, PlayStation & PCs in weeks Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) GAMERS beware: a load of titles are shutting down in one way or another this year. If you're the proud owner of an Xbox, PlayStation or gaming PC, you might be cut off some iconic games in 2025. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 MMO sci-fi fantasy game Skyforge is being killed off Credit: Skyforge 5 Wrestling fans are also set to lose out Credit: WWE 2K24 / 2K Here are five titles affected by closures this year. GAME #1 – Skyforge If you haven't heard of it, Skyforge is an massively multiplayer RPG set in a sci-fi fantasy world. It launched back in 2015, but is finally going offline after 10 years. "It is incredibly difficult for us to share the following news," the game creators said. "Unfortunately the Skyforge project is going to be closed, and its servers in Europe and America shut down." Payments have already been disabled on the game, and it'll switch off for PC players on September 3. That'll be followed by a console closure across Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The console closure date is set later, on October 29. GAME #2 – WWE 2K24 Wrestling fans are also facing a closure: this time it's WWE 2K24. The wrestling title – published by 2K – came out on March 8, 2024. Hit Rust game gets 'next-gen' upgrade revealed in new trailer But the game's online servers are due to be closed down on September 30, 2025. The core game will still be playable, so your money isn't entirely wasted. But you'll lose access to online matches as well as the Community Creations feature. GAME #3 – Madden NFL 22 Then there's another blow to sports fans who snapped up Madden NFL 22. 5 Madden is shutting down online services for a popular game Credit: EA / Madden / PlayStation / Amazon The American Football came was released on August 20, 2021, with Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady starring on the cover. But on October 20, 2025, the game's online services will switch off. That means you won't be able to access any of the online multiplayer modes. GAME #4 – Rust: Console Edition Multiplayer survival game Rust is also getting killed off – at least on certain consoles. WHY DO GAMES SHUT DOWN? By The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach... It's simple: money. When a game is entirely online – or has online features – then there's a cost associated with that. The game developer is having to pay to run servers so you can play. And they'll need developers working on fixing bugs, staff catching cheaters, customer support staff, and more. Over time, as player counts dwindle, it becomes less economically viable to offer these services. That's especially true for sports games where newer versions come out – drawing away players from the older titles. In those cases, it's usually just the online service that is pulled. But some games – like MMORPGs – are entirely online. There's no offline mode to fall back on. In those cases, the games are often shut down entirely. In some cases, players will set up their own private version of the game to let it live on. But dwindling players for an MMO is a bad sign – and usually means the game isn't far from its own doomsday. Other times, a game closes due to an overall studio shutdown. But generally, it's because the cost of supporting the game is too high versus the money coming in from players. Picture Credit: Sean Keach Rust first launched in 'early access' back in 2013 before an official release in 2018. But the "old-gen" version of Rust is being binned – that's the one made for PS4 and Xbox One. The game became unavailable to download as of May 29, 2025. And it'll eventually become totally unplayable in October. 5 Epic survival game Rust is being sunsetted on older consoles Credit: Rust / Double11 If you want to keep playing, you'll need to upgrade to the next-gen version – built for the newer Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles. That upgrade will be available for free, but it's only out on the new consoles – not the old ones. GAME #5 – Fifa 23 It's not just American Football getting a closure – regular footie is also facing a chop. Fifa 23 will have its online servers shut down on December 12, 2025. 5 Fifa 23 will soon lose access to online services Credit: Fifa / EA That'll affect players on PS4 and PS5, all Xbox models, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. It means the game's online features will be switched off, blocking all multiplayer. This was notably the last EA Fifa game, before the publisher switched to EA Sports FC – so it's an extra tragedy.

Inside rise of ‘nightmare' fake Labubu dolls flooding UK in ‘blind boxes' as border cops seize 100,000 dangerous dupes
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THEY are the must-have craze of the summer - with celebrities and punters fighting to get their hands on the "ugly-cute" dolls. But dodgy dealers looking to make a quick buck are using underhand tactics to profit off desperate shoppers - and the UK is cracking down. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 9 Fake Labubu toys known as Lafufus are flooding the market - often with obvious faults 9 British authorities have seized hundreds of thousands of counterfeits (pictured) Credit: Intellectual Property Office 9 Some of the dupes seized by Border Force entering the UK via air cargo Credit: Intellectual Property Labubus are undoubtedly the toy of the year - with stars including Rihanna, David Beckham, Kim Kardashian, Gemma Collins and Olivia Attwood showing off the little monsters. With their devilish toothy grins, wide eyes and rabbity ears, the dolls have captured the heart of the internet and have sparked a frenzy, with mile-long queues lining up to get their hands on the toys. A single doll can cost anywhere from £13.50 to £211 depending on the rarity of the design. But behind the adorable toys, the sinister underworld of the Chinese black market emerges that poses a serious threat to Brit consumers. Read more on Labubu dolls TOY JOY Viral brand behind Labubu dolls to go on sale at Britain's biggest toy chain It's understood more than 100,000 counterfeit dolls have already been seized by UK Border Force, arriving in the country in fast parcels or via air cargo. The "monster elves" are sold in blind boxes, meaning consumers can't see their new doll until it is unwrapped. This clever marketing tactic designed to build suspense has been deliberately exploited by counterfeiters who are packing the boxes with cheap dupes. The fake dolls are known as Lafufus and they are flooding the global market - selling for as little as £2.99. These counterfeits can sometimes look nothing like the real deal, with vids shared online showing the dolls with missing teeth, bulging eyes and limbs falling off. But the fakes can have devastating health risks for buyers. Dramatic moment crowds join massive queue to grab viral Labubu dolls as latest doll craze sweeps across the world Users have branded Lafufus "nightmare fuel" after the toys fell apart in front of their eyes, with the cheap materials made of highly flammable fabric and toxic hazards. Councils have warned that children in Scotland and Wales have fallen ill following exposure to the dolls. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has seized more than 32 keyrings and 95 boxes of fake dolls that didn't have adequate safety testing. Similar recalls have been imposed in North Ayrshire, with 370 Lafufus confiscated. Two stores in Douglas on the Isle of Man have also been raided with 200 dolls seized by authorities. Boxes of dupes have been found in Pontypridd, Holyhead, Lancashire and London. 9 Fake Labubu dolls seized by UK Border Force (pictured) Credit: Intellectual Property Office 9 A fake Labubu seized by UK Border Force Credit: Intellectual Property Office 9 People line up for the opening of Germany's first shop for Labubu plush dolls Credit: AP Helen Barnham, Deputy Director of Enforcement at the Intellectual Property Office, told The Sun: "We're seeing criminals increasingly exploit viral toy trends, with counterfeit versions of popular products appearing within days of them going viral. "These counterfeit toys are unlikely to have undergone the rigorous safety testing required for genuine products and can pose serious safety risks. "Children's safety must always come first, and we encourage parents to always research products thoroughly and only purchase from trusted sources." Counterfeit products are the second biggest source of criminal income worldwide behind illegal drugs. And most counterfeit products are being imported into the UK from China, Türkiye, and Hong Kong. Labubus were created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung and are sold exclusively by Chinese retailed Pop Mart. China has hailed the product, with its state-run paper People's Daily claiming: "Labubu's rise fuses China's strong manufacturing base with creative innovation, tapping into the emotional needs of global consumers." 9 Labubu toys have become a craze this year Credit: Getty 9 Authorities in the UK have started issuing warnings about the dupes 9 Some of the dupes have errors including spelling mistakes - seen here as Pop Mabt instead of Pop Mart Credit: Intellectual Property Office And in a country known for manufacturing cheap products exported worldwide, China says Labubus represent a shift from "Made in China" to "Created in China". The success of the dolls is marking a shift in the communist state's approach to its criminal trade of fakes which have plagued consumers for decades. More than 46,000 fake toys were intercepted in China in June before they reached the public. The shipments had the Pop Mart logo printed on the packaging. Chinese state media warned that "outlaws" are capitalising on the hype as the black market booms. The superpower has long been known as the counterfeit capital of the world, with Western brands regularly duped with fakes made in China. The global market for counterfeit products is valued at an eye-watering £380billion with Chinese makers reaping the majority of the wealth. While the government has been accused of turning a blind eye to its flourishing counterfeit economy, it is now cracking down on the criminal trade. The changing landscape has been sparked by China no longer wanting to be a factory for the world, but instead rival the US with leading brands. Ripping off Western companies with counterfeit products was one thing, but China does not want to lose out by having its own products duped. This has led to Xi Jinping strengthening intellectual property rights, making it harder for fakers to sell knock-off dupes. Protecting its homegrown brands and success stories like Labubu dolls by seizing as many fakes as it can is now considered a major national priority as China seeks to flex its muscles increasingly in the economic and cultural stage.

Today's horoscope for August 9 as Taurus feels the pressure
Today's horoscope for Saturday, August 9 will see one sign feel full of nervous energy, as another is forced to face the truth It's Saturday, and one star sign tackles their to-do list, while another takes a look at their social life. There are 12 zodiac signs - Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces - and the horoscopes for each can give you the lowdown on what your future holds, be it in work, your love life, your friends and family or more. These daily forecasts have been compiled by astrologer Russell Grant, who has been reading star signs for over 50 years. From Aries through to Pisces, here's what today could bring for your horoscope - and what you can do to be prepared. Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20) You're full of nervous energy and this needs an outlet. A good choice would be to visit a favourite shopping centre for a little shopping excursion. You could find some great bargains and a terrific gift for a Leo friend. Of course there are other alternatives available like enjoying a stroll along the beach. Taurus (Apr 21 - May 21) You're carrying a lot of weight of expectation from your peers in a group situation. You are unequivocally the most skilled in the group. Spending a little time getting to grips with what this means is important now. Follow what your heart tells you regardless of what others think. Gemini (May 22 - June 21) You may have to face the truth about your role in recent conflicts in the family. Your tendency to speak without thinking has led to misunderstandings. Recognising that you may be the cause of some issues is the first step towards making amends. Reach out and mend these relationships. Cancer (June 22 - July 23) At last you will find the time and energy to tackle tasks that remain unfinished. You will admit that you could have done these earlier but for some reason you kept postponing them and now the day has come when you need to do something to get back on top of it all. Leo (July 24 - Aug 23) You have a knack for connecting with others and can coordinate any group effort effectively. That's why you are such a popular leader. This doesn't reflect on your personal life though when you should perhaps take some time to think about those whose needs you overlook in pursuit of your own achievements and social approval. Virgo (Aug 24 - Sept 23) There's a warm, cosy feel to the places you visit and to the get-togethers that have been arranged for today. There's no room for disagreements when you are spending time with some wonderful people. You can fully enjoy your work and genuinely connect with friends, colleagues and family. Libra (Sept 24 - Oct 23) A challenge you take on early on will come with a lot of responsibility. This will take you away from places you'd been scheduled to visit. You may not realise it but people close to home are waiting for you to tackle various tasks. Alongside new commitments there are old ones that you should not ignore. Scorpio (Oct 24 - Nov 22) Some people around you seem easily distracted whereas you won't find it a problem to think deeply and concentrate. It's a great day for tackling problems. Routine tasks won't slow you down as you have the focus, energy and attention to detail to get things done. Evening will find you chatting about what should come next. Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 21) Financial discussions make you tense when there is a real possibility that funds are running low. Whether you're concerned about everyday expenses or financing a long-term project, you need to discuss how this can be better managed. Cut down on your spending. Instead of dining out, consider enjoying a delightful meal at home instead. Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 20) Encourage family chats especially if your hope is to build a stable future together. An older or more experienced relative will have some valuable suggestions. Discussions will include home repairs and how to manage finances to make these improvements happen. Aquarius (Jan 21 - Feb 19) You're all set to make some big changes. This is something you have been considering for a while so it will not be an impulsive move as someone who doesn't understand, is implying. You are creating a solid plan, focusing on your goals and making what matters most to you a priority. Pisces (Feb 20 - Mar 20) Travel plans run into problems. Whether it is traffic delays, airport disruptions or transport breakdowns, you might wish you had stayed at home. If you do decide to remain put, this does not mean you are stuck with nothing to do. After all, no one can stop you from enjoying some fresh air.
