Calhan School District partners with AI gun detection system
(CALHAN, Colo.) — Calhan School District (CSD) has partnered with ZeroEyes, an AI-based gun detection video analytics system, to increase school safety.
Calhan School District said ZeroEyes was integrated with the existing school security camera system. According to a press release from ZeroEyes, if a firearm is detected, the images are shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Center, which is staffed 24/7/365 by military and law enforcement veterans. If a threat is determined to be valid, first responders and local staff are alerted and given information on the visual description, gun type, and last known location. ZeroEyes said an alert can be given as quickly as three to five seconds after detection.
'While we are incredibly fortunate to have a close partnership with our local law enforcement, we know that in situations where every second counts, technology like ZeroEyes can make all the difference,' said Dr. Donovan Mitchell, Superintendent of CSD. 'Our goal is to ensure teachers can teach and students can learn without worrying about their safety. We hope we never face a gun-related threat on our campus, but if we do, we want to have as many systems in place as possible to combat it—and ZeroEyes is a key part of that.'
Calhan School District said the partnership is thanks to a grant from the state of Colorado called the School Access for Emergency Response Grant Program (SAFER), which paid for the integration with ZeroEyes and for the partnership to last several years. The system has been up and running since the return from winter break.
'Calhan School District's commitment to safety is a powerful example for schools across the country,' said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. 'We believe this integration will greatly enhance their ability to respond to gun-related threats swiftly and effectively, and we are honored that CSD has placed their trust in us to help protect their community.'

macOS 26 compatibility list: check if your Mac will get the update
By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on June 9, 2025, 12:40 IST As Apple gears up to unveil macOS 26 — reportedly named macOS Tahoe — at WWDC 2025, Mac users are eager to know whether their devices will receive the update. While the company continues its shift to Apple Silicon, several older Intel-based Macs are expected to be left out of this year's software rollout. Macs expected to support macOS 26 According to insider reports, macOS 26 will be compatible with the following Mac models: MacBook Pro (2019 and newer) MacBook Air (M1 and later) iMac (2020 and newer) Mac mini (M1 and later) Mac Studio (all models) Mac Pro (2019 and newer) Older Intel-based Macs may lose support Apple appears to be phasing out macOS support for several older Intel Macs as it focuses more on optimizing the OS for its M-series chips. This means devices released before 2019 — particularly Intel-based MacBook Airs, iMacs, and MacBook Pros — may no longer be eligible for macOS 26. This update is expected to introduce a major redesign under the 'Solarium' interface language, with changes like translucent visuals, modernized icons, and improved multitasking tools. Apple may also roll out enhancements such as better Wi-Fi sharing, improved battery health tracking, and cross-device gaming features. If your Mac is more than a few years old, WWDC 2025 may be a sign that it's time for an upgrade. UK financial regulator partners with Nvidia in AI 'sandbox'
LONDON -Financial firms in Britain will be able to test artificial intelligence tools later this year in a regulatory "sandbox" launched on Monday by the country's financial watchdog, part of a broader government strategy to support innovation and economic growth. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has partnered with U.S. chipmaker Nvidia to provide access to advanced computing power and bespoke AI software through what it calls a "Supercharged Sandbox." A sandbox refers to a controlled environment where companies can test new ideas such as products, services or technologies. The programme is intended to help firms in the early stages of exploring AI, offering access to technical expertise, better datasets and regulatory support, the FCA said. It is open to all financial services companies experimenting with AI. "This collaboration will help those that want to test AI ideas but who lack the capabilities to do so," Jessica Rusu, the FCA's chief data, information and intelligence officer, said. "We'll help firms harness AI to benefit our markets and consumers, while supporting economic growth." Finance minister Rachel Reeves has urged Britain's regulators to remove barriers to economic growth, describing it as an "absolute top priority" for the government. In April, she said she was pleased with how the FCA and the Prudential Regulation Authority, part of the Bank of England, were responding to her call to cut red tape. Nvidia said the initiative would allow firms to explore AI-powered innovations in a secure environment, using its accelerated computing platform. "AI is fundamentally reshaping the financial sector," said Jochen Papenbrock, EMEA head of financial technology at Nvidia, citing improvements in data analysis, automation and risk management. He added that the sandbox will provide firms with a "secure environment to explore AI innovations using Nvidia's full-stack accelerated computing platform, supporting industry-wide growth and efficiency." The testing is set to begin in October.
