Sonu Nigam Apologises For Remarks At Bengaluru Concert: 'My Love Is Bigger Than My Ego'
Sonu Nigam's apology has come just hours after he posted a detailed account of the incident.
Sonu Nigam has apologised for his remarks at his recent Bengaluru concert after facing immense backlash. Just hours after posting a clarification on Instagram, the singer has taken to the social media site again and issued an apology. Sonu said that his love for Karnataka is not bigger than his ego.
Sonu Nigam wrote, 'Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always." This comes hours after Sonu had issued a clarification amid the controversy. In his statement, Sonu Nigam said that he has always extended deep respect and affection toward the language, culture, music, and musicians, not only of Karnataka but across the globe.
He shared that he holds his Kannada songs in especially high regard, even more than his Hindi repertoire. Nigam added that he consistently prepares an over-an-hour-long set of Kannada songs whenever he performs in the state. However, Nigam alleged that during the concert, he was 'humiliated" by a fan and even 'threatened" by an individual young enough to be his son.
For the unversed, the controversy stems from an incident on April 25, 2025, at East Point College, where the singer allegedly refused to perform a Kannada song upon a fan's request and referenced the Pahalgam terror attack during his response. Following the incident, the Bengaluru District Police took cognisance of an FIR lodged against Sonu Nigam on May 3 for allegedly 'making hurtful remarks about the Kannadiga community." A formal notice was issued to the singer, directing him to appear before the investigating officer within a week to respond to the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has announced that the Kannada film industry (commonly referred to as Sandalwood) will not engage with Sonu Nigam in any capacity for future projects.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's Smriti Irani pens a heartfelt note celebrating Father's Day: Embrace your father- For who he is, not who you wish him to be
Smriti Irani is all set to return to screens with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, the actress turned politician took to her Instagram handle to celebrate Father's Day. She shared a heartfelt post with her father's picture. In the note, she shared how her bond with him has grown with time and how life has taught them to deal with each other's ideologies. Smriti wrote, "He is from the generation that says— 'Hum beti ke ghar ka paani nahi peete.' And true to his word, he never has. Not a sip of water, let alone a meal I offer to pay for. He is well-read, aware, and lives in a world far removed from the one that raised him— Yet some rules, etched in the marrow of his bones, remain untouched by time. A father to a daughter, in a way only his generation understands. I no longer argue. Not because I agree, But because I've learned that sometimes peace lies in letting his old ways be. He scoffs at the idea of 'Father's Day'— 'Yeh kya hota hai?'" She also quipped, "But when his child falters, he shows up—unfailingly ( sometimes loudly with an ' I told you so' ) Ours isn't a picture-perfect bond. There are silences, stubborn standoffs, and unspoken expectations. But beneath it all is a truth unshaken— I am his daughter. And he, in all his imperfections, obstinance, and silent love, is what made me me. So today, don't wait for perfection. Embrace your father- For who he is, not who you wish him to be. " Talking about her return with Kyunki 2, Smriti has been shooting with Z Plus security and the show is slated to go on floors on the same day as first launched, July 3. The show will also have a special appearance of legendary actor Jeetendra. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Father's Day wishes , messages , and quotes !
